Hokies Softball takes on Notre Dame in ACC Semifinal 330PM ESPN3

The Lady Hokies beat Syracuse in the Quarterfinals 10-4, fueled by a grand slam from Katey Smith in the bottom of the sixth inning. The team is now 35-20 going into this game against Notre Dame, which Tech beat two out of three times they played this season. Tech is currently an NCAA bubble team so a victory here would significantly bolster its chances of reaching the NCAA tournament. If you have some time this afternoon, tune in and cheer on the ladies.

Tech puts up five runs in the first inning on a pitcher that pitched a complete game shutout yesterday.

Tech was robbed at the plate of another run by a bad call. Replay clearly shows the runners hand on the plate before the tag was applied. Still 5-0 through the top of the third.

I feel like this may have been asked before, but they're wearing the 'retired' T over V logos on their helmets...how does that work?

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Even though this was posted 2 days ago, the explanation for this is that the helmets were purchased before the logo was retired. So while they may not have worn them until after it was officially retired, they were ordered during a time when it was allowed. That's how they get away with it. The retiring stated that no NEW merchandise could be created, but old stock could be purchased and used. So that's likely the scenario here.

Thanks for the explanation!

Also, while I'm on the softball thread, shout out to the softball team for making the tournament!

Tech is in the Knoxville Regional bracket with Tennessee, Lipscomb, and Charleston So. Our first game will be against Lipscomb May 16th at 3:30 pm.

Well dang it. Hokies lose 9-6. In hindsight, maybe Maggie Tyler shouldn't have been pulled...I thought she was pitching really well today. At any rate, let's hope we can get a tournament bid.

Yeah Tyler was burying them until the fourth inning, but then the floodgates opened. She still had only given up three runs when they pulled her. Error early in that inning was costly in the outfield, as it would have made it one out with runners on first and second instead of bases loaded no outs.
