No evidence of a violation here but pretty fishy... Derrick Henry has a new Dodge Charger.

There used to be a website dedicated to Alabama players' cars that they "bought". This probably blew up because he posted it on Twitter, but from what I've seen, this is pretty on par
Did Butch Davis buy it for him?
Remember, these kids can't afford to eat. Cars cost way less than ramen, right?
He has to get to the store to buy the Ramen somehow
My car probably does. Toyota Echo, AKA The Mobile Coffin. Tricked out with VT stickers. Only gets 29 Miles to the gallon thanks to the stickers weighing it down.
Kendall Fuller should drive an Interceptor
man that car looks pretty slick...but how does the engine breath?
Remember NCAA now offers free snacks/food to athlete's, so all that money the school was using for food went to cars!
Can they afford crab legs?
I might be a little too easy (yes that is in fact what she said), but this made me laugh out loud. Leg fer ya
So true...a few weeks without ramen and he probably saved up enough for this Challenger.
You should see TJ Yeldon's Porsche....he hasn't eaten in 2 years.
I am sure his parents are independently wealthy...or it could just be an "Uncle" who bought it for him...
Can't they get loans based on projected future earnings? I seem to remember something like that being said when Jimmy Williams got a new ride. I could be remembering wrong. Its a major gamble so I can't say I understand why someone would do it. Then again I know grad students that took out private loans on top of what they actually needed so they could still have money to party and eat out at nice restaurants.
No, they can't borrow money against future earnings to buy cars. They can ONLY borrow money against future earnings to buy disability insurance to safeguard against career ending injuries.
Jimmy Williams pre-ordered a customized Lamborghini, IIRC, prior to the draft, because he expected to be drafted highly. He was not, he embarrassed himself by trying to style before the fact, and he ended up cancelling the order on the car. Once players' eligibility is finished and they sign with an agent, they will often get a 'loan' from the agent to buy shiny things. That is probably what you remembered.
This is a big reason why I have such a huge amount of respect for Alfred Morris, Redskins RB.
Here is his car for anyone curious: Alfred Morris's car.
Oh wow I didn't know it had been refurbished. Looks sweet. For a 1991 Mazda.
The sad thing is it probably cost twice as much to do that restoration job as the car is actually worth. I met Morris at dinner about a year ago. He was with his family and completely down to earth. Signed a few autographs, talked a little about how his first year was so eye opening and then returned to his dinner. Real nice guy. Funny that Morris went through Mazda for that restore job but is doing promo advertisements for Eastern Motors.
Living where I do, you run into Redskins in some of the oddest places. Morris was at the V Restaurant, RGIII was at Moe's, saw Deangelo from afar at a youth baseball tournament, and used to have a steady slew of them come in when I was a bartender at Clyde's in Ashburn. I tend to leave them alone when I see them since most times its obvious they are out doing their thing and if I was them, wouldn't want to be bothered.
Eastern Motors, huh? So his job is his credit?
I love those commercials.
I owned a 1988 626 (same body style), and it was a fantastic car. It looks like he has the turbocharged version, which was actually a very fast vehicle. Before we purchased the car, we test drove a four-wheel steering (yes, you read that right...four-wheel steering) model, w/turbocharge. The 4-wheel steering model had a ridiculously small turning radius, something like 6' or so. I loved it. I also had visions of having a much more lengthy road-criminal file. So we ended up w/the standard model. Unfortunately totalled mine in 1994.
My SAE Mini Baja team tried (sort of) to put a 4-wheel steering system in our car my senior year. We ended up scrapping the idea, but I'm always intrigued when I hear about car manufacturers using it. It was a fairly challenging design problem, and I'm always curious how grown-up engineers go about it.
There were two cars on the market in 1988 that had four wheel steering, the Mazda 626 and the Honda Prelude. The Mazda used power mechanical linkage to accomplish the four wheel steer, but the Honda used an electro-mechanical means of doing so. I test drove both of these cars. The Mazda was quite a bit more powerful due to the turbo, but the Prelude was more of a sports car, and was a more effective use of the steering. I could outline the end of a very narrow median in a local subdivision with the tires. I would have bought the Prelude if we weren't thinking about having kids at the time, and I couldn't afford the Mazda 4 wheel steering model (or the inevitable introductions to local law enforcement that I would have had).
As I recall, (on both cars) the rear wheels would turn the opposing direction of the front wheels at low speeds, but at highway speed they would turn the same direction, thus enabling more nimble handling characteristics.
From the aritcle
Definitely an impermissible benefit, I wonder when the NCAA is going to go after this bagman pastor[/sarcastica]
"Cool car, bro."

- David Wilson
^^^ yep this. Really guys, David's car was sweet, and I loved him for it.
After reading that story about the bag men of college football I don't feel one bit guilty jumping to the conclusion that he, nor his parents bought that car.
"Are you saying that his Uncle couldn't afford a car?!"
Are you referring to Uncle Nick or Uncle Lane??

Excerpt:
"Just scroll through the products available for sale here whether it's the gloves Christion Jones wore in the Virginia Tech game (just $1,200), Kenyan Drake's LSU game gloves (just $750) or CJ Mosley's gloves ($950) from the big Texas A&M game. There's also a pair of wrist bands signed by Yeldon for $350.
But what if you want wide receiver Amari Cooper's signed gloves or footballs? Don't worry, Albetar's got you covered there too ($700)."
Add all that money up, and you've got about 20% of the cheapest version of a new Dodge Challenger...
Well...the $5000.00 Jeffrey Pagan signed jersey on this page will help cover the cost.

I don't know how Alabama gets away with this. There are actual pictures of the players signing the merchandise. Are we supposed to believe they didn't get paid for this?
There are multiple pics of McCarron signing and posing for pictures.

"Are you saying that you're a racist"
EDIT: I am not actually accusing anyone of being a racist, see my post below.
Who is a racist?
Who mentioned race?
White, black...whatever. Unless a college kid has parents with money, it is impossible for them to purchase this car.
Maybe his parents have money.
Either way, it looks fishy when these kids post pics like this...and then instantly remove them.
Is this article racist?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1719834-posing-with-a-wad-of-cash-pro...
It's a quote from the bag man article, in response to Shoog's quote from the bagman article.
Lol...ok, I hadn't read that article. I thought you were calling someone a racist!
Now I understand. When I made the "Uncle" comment, it wasn't in reference to the Bag Man article...it was purely coincidental.
Upvote for ya!
You HAD to see the downvotes coming....
Love how the author in the first link went right to racism.
"Clearly a young black man with a new car is a red flag, and the online profiling began. "
Yet fails to post even one twitter critic mentioning race in any way.
Nicely played Mr. Breland. You'll go far in this journalism racket.
No kidding, he's got the media agenda down pat.
Ignore one story to keep one media agenda true (the hypocrisy of the 'kids don't have enough money to eat!' while celebrating this), while also trying to tie it into another media agenda (everyone is a racist, like Donald Sterling).
they gave me a charger as a rental one time when I wrecked my truck. the lady was like, "all we have is a charger, is that ok?" I was like "uuhhh yeah."
that thing was noice.
Let me guess, they paid cash right?
I believe I read somewhere his uncle paid cash for it.
Seems legit.
I use to actually look into this stuff, but when it became very obvious that the NCAA will never punish the big schools, I just accepted it. It's a lot less frustrating that way.
And if you guys think this is bad, how about Trent Richardson's customized Escalade that probably cost around $50k? One of many children from a dirt poor family and he had that car. OKAYYYY.
According to the "Bagman" article the school and coaching staff is not affiliated in any way with the bagmen. They are just guys that have a few extra 1,000 to 10,000 dollars each year and feel like paying these kids with it. They don't leave behind any proof, we all can "know" what happened all day, really nothing the NCAA can do.
Add in the fact he had at least two kids while in college.
You all realize that's a Challenger, not a Charger, right?
Challenger:

Charger:

Honestly, he would have been better off buying himself a Camaro.
I love the Challenger, but the thing drives like a tank. Drove one of each around for about a week a year ago, a basic LT Camaro, and a Challenger R/T. The performance of the Camaro was noticeably better than the Challenger.
I'm such a Dodge homer though that I wouldn't even care. I want a Challenger SO bad
Clearly, Lane Kiffin messed this one up. Saban SPECIFICALLY said to get him a Camaro, NOT a Challenger!
At least it's not a Mustang.
Speaking of Mustang, can't wait for the 2015.
Man! Some downvoter really likes mustangs.
The bottom one looks like a Neon.
Check out the article where Pat White says Bama offered him a Corvette but he wanted to go to WVU
Where is the article?
http://www.al.com/alabamafootball/index.ssf/2014/05/nick_saban_not_pleas...
Saban tells reporter to "Kiss my ass" after being asked about the Pat White allegations.
