Q&A: Virginia Tech assistant Shane Beamer

Shane Beamer believes that the biggest need for Virginia Tech in the 2015 class is defensive line. With about 5 seniors graduating this year, the Hokies are also in need of offensive linemen. The 2015 recruiting class is loaded with defensive and offensive linemen. Hopefully, they are paying attention and are looking for early playing time at an elite program like Virginia Tech.

SB: I think the biggest need for us is on the defensive line. We need some playmakers at the end position that can rush the passer.

While I agree with Shane, you can't tell me that there wasn't an emphasis put on that as we are going hard after top guys like Sweat, Fullwood and Taylor. I'm still not sold on Shane as an RB coach, but you can't deny that he is ALWAYS thinking about recruit.

When Frank Beamer retires one day I'd hope that Shane could stay on staff as a Special Teams Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator. Think he'd be perfect in that role.

I'm not sold on Shane's rotation of backs but of course I'm not there on the practice fields.

I agree with Shane. An early signing period would be great for college football. Recruits who know where they want to go to school would sign early and focus on their academic in their senior year of high school. It would alleviate the costs of having to go see committed guys every single week that are committed to you.

totally agree with early signing period, but it's not like we have 20 commitments right now ready to sign. just saying...
