What VT is all about..Keeping coaches

Not only is this a short list of tenured assistants. But VT has 3 of 4. This is what VT is all about. Loyalty.

Loyalty to a detriment? IE( O' Cain , Newsome , Sherman & others in the past)

Yep. Loyalty can bite you in the ass. There is little correlation between loyalty and success. Beamer has been successful retaining coaches. Saban has been successful replacing coaches. It depends on the abilities and temperament of the coach.

Reality has a mighty pimp hand.

Saban has been successful at winning Title's which brings in $$ to keep replacing top tier coaches.. there's a reason they're successful year after year. recruiting, always in title game, and $$..

I'm not saying within the next 2 years or so but VT would be dumb to not look at the SEC and try to go there. Because honestly the ACC is becoming trash and we are right in the middle of it. Yes Clemson and FSU are good but other than that... its pretty discouraging

I'd say the $52.3 million exit fee is a pretty big hurdle to trying to join the SEC. I don't see much of a benefit. The ACC will launch a network within the next few years and will be just as lucrative as the SEC.

The ACC (football) will never ever be as lucrative as the SEC.. When the ACC wins the title consistently and has more than half the teams in the top 25 maybe we can start to be more lucrative. I understand it not just a football decision and with Buzz coming in the chances of leaving are slim due to ACC being huge basketball conference.

But the ACC has got to figure its ish out.. Either ND is in fully or not, this partial bs is just a joke to me. ND gets to play weaker ACC teams, use our bowl ties and then complain about ACC basketball lol. I have a feeling the ACC network will be geared towards basketball over anything else. Here in FL we have a ACC network/coverage on local channels so when the VT games are not on national coverage I can still find em, so an ACC network to me is meh

We're not jumping to the SEC. That whole dreamworld is in the past and its best to just move forward with an understanding that we're where we're going to be for the long haul. Remember, if we were to jump now, we forfeit all our tv revenue we would make in a new conference for something like 10 years or so, and everyone signed off on it. Nobody is leaving the ACC now.

And another thing. College sports are cyclical. The SEC is not going to be the elite of the elites forever. They've had a good run, but it will end. They were a very, very mediocre league even 15 years ago. And right now, the ACC is trending up, being led by FSU and Clemson, with programs like VT quietly building up a base to be very good again in the near future.

Not to mention there's at least one person on here that doesn't want to join them...why do you ask?

I mean, don't get me wrong... I like the thought of going into the SEC and tearing their house apart by sticking a Bud Foster sized shoe up their collective ass... But at the same time, you also have to remember, when we joined the ACC, we were supposedly joining what would be a football superpower. Nobody saw the absolute collective collapses of Miami, Florida State, North Carolina State, Clemson, North Carolina, etc all happening at once. Things change. The ACC won't always be bad, and the SEC won't always be great.

I was just making a reference to a member here but I knew what you were getting at. I especially loved the Bud Foster-sized shoe collective reference.

Spot on. College sports are cyclical. Heck, 10-12 years ago the Big East was top dog. Now, it doesn't even exist (in football). I hate the thought of VT simply trying to chase whatever the "best" conference is right now. The ACC is currently in transition, and we'll see changes in membership (I can see a team or two coming on board in football) and it will be all for the better.

Funny this article comes out now that we have had a huge over haul

What's impressive is that we still have so many tenured coaches even after a large overhaul.
