Hokies Offer Cody Blanc

From his Twitter:

He's an athlete in the class of '12 and has played running back, wide receiver and safety.

He's also a decathlete.

Central High School junior Cody Blanc won the Section 1-AAA boys’ decathlon Tuesday afternoon at Science Hill.

Blanc, who led after the first five events on Monday, took the title with 5,414 points.

He won the shot put (43 feet, 5 inches) and 100-meter dash (11.45). He was second in the high hurdles and triple jump.

His total broke a school record in the decathlon by more than 700 points.

Looks like an extremely smart offer by Beamer Co.

I'm going to guess that he's a Candidate for a Grey Shirt

but that is strictly a guess

With all these additional offers going out today, that seems logical to me. At 17 commits the pressure has to be on the bigger fish.

Me three,

I agree. Hokies have RB JC Coleman and offers out for Wes Brown/Drew Harris, Joel Caleb could be the top Safety available (if that's where he wants to play), and so many LBs already that we may have lost out on Trey Edmunds. Congratulations to this young man, but he certainly sounds like a small-school, long-term project.

What's Important Now

Here's some more info from Knox News Sentinel

"They offered me as an athlete,'' Blanc said Saturday evening. "I showed 'em I can be a running back, a receiver, a defensive back and play special teams.''

The offer came at the end of a weekend that included a campus tour for Blanc and his parents and then a workout Saturday morning on the field.

Blanc said his 4.41 time in the 40-yard dash was the fastest of about 180 campers.

It's the same time he recorded at Tennessee's camp recently.

"I had the third- or fourth-fastest shuttle,'' Blanc said. "I ran track this year and that helped me a bunch.''

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Blanc finished third in the Class AAA decathlon in May.

He said running backs coach Shane Beamer shadowed him through the drills.

Then assistant coach Charley Wiles, who recruits East Tennessee, took Blanc to head coach Frank Beamer's office for the official offer.

Blanc has visits scheduled for Vanderbilt and UT and possibly Kentucky.

"If Tennessee offers and Vandy offers I'll try to narrow it down before my season starts,'' Blanc said.

"Virginia Tech has already got 15 committed so if I still just have the offer from Virginia Tech going into the season I might commit.''

Blanc also has to decide whether he would rather play defense or offense.

"Virginia Tech is looking at me more as an offensive guy,'' he said. "UT and Vandy and the SEC schools are looking at me more as a safety.

"I have to decide if I want to be a running back or a safety.''
