Footage of downtown last night

This was Main St and College Ave last night at about 12:30. Absolutely nuts but it seemed like people were more having a good time than trying to riot. There was a car that got caught in the middle of this and people were banging on it and jumping off it (thankfully no one tried to flip it), a streetlamp had the cover knocked around, and people climbing the traffic lights were arrested, but other than that I think it was pretty tame. I did hear that there was a couch on fire down Roanoke St and plenty of fireworks were going off.

looks like a blast. whole video I was thinking how cool it would have been if a cop started blasting "Enter Sandman" through his external PA. Place would have gone nuts

edit: fixed the stupidity

"Enter the Sandman"

Actually my roommates told me that that cops were driving around Blacksburg blasting Enter Sandman. There also was a fire in a dumpster by my apartment and students were dancing around it and the cops were just watching it letting them have a little fun before the fire department got there.

Enter Sandman was played and all of downtown exploded. I have not seen so much pure excitement out of the student body in my time at tech. I am still amped up 12 hours later!

I graduated one spring to early. Wish I could of been there!

This is one of the many things that makes college football so special.

I remember the scene off Roanoke St after beating BC in the revenge match for ACC title in '07

Guys, not only did we beat OSU last night but Lane Stadium was able to uproot itself and jump along with the rest of Hokienation in downtown. I love this school.

Blacksburg FD's @blacksburgfire Twitter account has a nice rundown of all the calls they responded to last night.

1 bonfire
1 dumpster fire (I didn't know they also responded to calls in Columbus!)
1 vehicle fire
2 rubbish fires
3 fire alarms (Slusher, New Hall East, and LANE STADIUM)
3 furniture fires (1 mattress, 2 couches)
and 1 motor vehicle accident

1 dumpster fire (I didn't know they also responded to calls in Columbus!)

I'm about to become an old man here.

That is shameful! People don't realize how truly dangerous it is to set fire to something besides wood. You placed yourself, the people around you and those first responders lives at risk. The toxic mix from a dumpster or couch can cause long term cancer. Those engines responded lights and sirens to those calls. Dozens of firefighters and civilians are killed in collisions involving a responding unit. I know this may get me some down votes, but I want to see us celebrate safely for all involved including my brother firefighters.

Edit* not to mention how classless setting fire to a couch or mattress is.

Couchfires?

Goddammit, students... we're better than that

There are certain schools in the generally vicinity of VT that start with 'R' and end with 'adford' that may or may not have students contributing to the excessive chaos witnessed in certain peripheral neighborhoods within the corporate limits of our fine town. That having been said, alcohol and other drugs tend to make animals (cousins) out of men. We do have a gruff, reckless redneck reputation to live up to after all. All the first responders I encountered last night were total class acts and reinforced my undying love the community of Blacksburg. All is well and we continue our march to victory!

P.S. if we win a NC, prepare to hide your head in shame is all I'm sayin' lol

So…tell us again how many first responders you encountered?

Bud: Are my fans too much trouble for you?

Sheriff: No, coach. They're just kids.

I witnessed multiple couch fires after the Miami '03 game. That being said, thankfully after this game it was only a limited group of idiots. Keep in mind, 25K students, fans celebrating a late night victory, so one couch fire is not too embarrassing. One is too many, but it's also a statistical aberration.

Fans definitely broke into lane stadium too last night apparently the cops kicked em out pretty quick

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

I was there. It was pretty hilarious. Cops did a good job of securing the gates and stationing two or three guys at each of them. Then, somebody from the crowd decided to check if the front door was unlocked...and the rest is history.

All couch burning aside, being there for this was truly the best thing I've ever experienced in Blacksburg.

Everyone just sort of streamed out of Sharkey's and just started laughing and cheering over how freakin' incredible and bizarre that win was. It was truly unlike anything I've ever seen.

It was my friend that led the conga line out of sharkeys. I almost wish I was in Blacksburg for all of this, but I could not of been happier to be at the game in Columbus. By far my favorite VT football game I have attended.
