The ACC announced that three Hokie defenders received Atlantic Coast Conference weekly football honors. Defensive end Dadi Nicolas, linebacker Deon Clarke, and rover Kyshoen Jarrett got the nod from the league. Limiting No. 8 Ohio State to 21 points, after dark, on the road, in front of a 105-thousand-plus record crowd was more than enough to earn the trio of lunchpailers recognition by the conference. Deon Clarke was also recognized by the Walter Camp Foundation as its National Defensive Player of the Week. As a whole, the ACC went 11-0 this weekend versus non-conference opponents.

Blurbs on each player from the ACC follow.

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN — Dadi Nicolas, Virginia Tech, Jr.-r, DE, 6-3, 224, Delray Beach, Fla.

Nicolas was a disruptive force in the backfield all evening, leading a defensive effort that recorded seven sacks against No. 8 Ohio State. Nicolas had just three tackles, but they were all for loss with two of them being sacks as the Hokies defeated the Buckeyes on the road before a Ohio Stadium record crowd of over 105,000 and a national ESPN television audience.

DLINEBACKER — Deon Clarke, Virginia Tech, Jr., LB, 6-2, 221, Richmond, Va.

Clarke led the Hokies' stout defensive charge at No. 8 Ohio State. The junior recorded a career-high 10 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, and broke up a pass as the Hokies beat the Buckeyes 35-21 in the Horseshoe. Clarke's quarterback sack resulted in a 9-yard loss and came with just over a minute remaining and Virginia Tech leading 28-21. The win at Ohio State marked the highest ranked opponent the Hokies have ever beaten on the road.

CO-DEFENSIVE BACK — Kyshoen Jarrett, Virginia Tech, Sr., ROV, 5-11, 190, Tannersville, Pa.

Jarrett came up with two big second-half at No. 8 Ohio State as the Hokies became the first opposing unranked team to win at Ohio Stadium since 1982. Jarrett had five tackles and broke up a pass as the defensive unit held Ohio State to under 400 yards of offense for just the second time in the Buckeyes' last 15 games.

Not bad, but he's no David Wilson.

Plus a couple National nods.

Fortune Favors the Bold

Sheesh the accolades from this game are piling up. Let's hope we don't read our own headlines.

I know its been said before, but I think Clarke is going to be really good.

Chick Patty w/ Cheese

Derek Di Nardo has been making some big plays too. Is he keeping RVD off the field with his performance, or is RVD still hurt? Regardless, shout out to Derek for balling out this year.

ETA: I was late to the party, there is already a thread on him. http://www.thekeyplay.com/content/2014/september/8/derek-di-nardo

They could have given it to the entire Defense and their coaches. They all deserve it, but Clarke and Dadi were extra nasty.

Did Clarke prove Coach Cav's opinion correct about Clarke vs. Curtis Grant? Looked like it to me.

Its only been two games, there are not enough souvenirs in the lunch pail to feed that entire defense. GOT TO STAY HUNGRY!

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

My only question is "Did a piece of that expensive Artificial Turf make its way back in the pail?" There should have been some available in Barrett's facemask after the 4th quarter.

Lets GO!!!!

I know that Jarrett got the picks and played superb, but Kendall Fuller was just ridiculous out there Saturday night. So many ballers, so few awards to give out.

Kendall's going to have that problem this year. When you shut down one side of the field and no one throws towards you it's impossible to get the stats that people are looking at for these awards. He might be the first All-American with no picks and 1 pass breakup simply because no one ever threw to his side of the field.

“When life knocks you down plan to land on your back, because if you can look up, you can get up, if you fall flat on your face it can kill your spirit” David Wilson

His high school stats were the same way. But, if our D keeps it up, I have a feeling he will get his accolades when it comes time to hand out post-season awards.

Demi-gods do not need accolades from mere mortals, they always get their due from the souls of lesser beings they destroy on the field of battle...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"
