So Frank let Willie Byrn fill in the blanks - or lines to be read between - for us. That's fine. Should answer the questions as to Stanford's reasons for departure.

Best wishes to him in his maturation process as he goes about grasping the team concept and the overall game of life. He can be a valuable component of the Hokie team if he focuses on doing so. I'm sure we all want that for him.

Brewer took some time to go bow hunting and fishing, to "be human" for a day or two, before returning. He wasn't completely removed from football, however. While hunting, he kept tabs on the critical Duke-Georgia Tech Coastal Division game on his phone -- a 21st century outdoorsman if ever there was one.

Did he kill anything?

"I wish. I struck out," Brewer said. "Saw a turkey but he was a little bit too quick for me."
