On Sunday November 2nd, Buzz's guys will host a secret scrimmage against South Carolina. More information will follow as I discover it. Remember, it's a secret.

Wait... maybe I wasn't supposed to say anything.
Many programs hold a 'secret' scrimmage that is allowed by the NCAA. The condition of secrecy is that the schools don't publicize it themselves, although the scrimmages tend to be well known. It's another NCAA quirk.
I don't know if this will be held at Cassell or at Hahn-Hurst. Perhaps others could provide that info?
All scrimmages are held in Cassell. They usually try to bring in at least one ACC official and at the end they go over any new rule changes and what the ACC refs are looking for come ACC play, at least initially.
The women will be holding theirs on the 8th after wrestling takes on Newberry.
Are we allowed to go to these scrimmages?
It's my understanding that we are, but they're not allowed to advertise or promote them. Sort of a 'if you happen to walk in, it's okay' policy, which was decided by the NCAA. At one point, the 'secret scrimmages' were actually secret, as in completely unannounced and sometimes not even verified by the teams. Very odd. Anyway, now the information is on ESPN, and I'd say the vast majority of teams have one. You can only have one, though. That much is firm. It all smacks of more silly rules by the NCAA, but in this case I don't care, as long as I can watch us scrimmage.
What time so we can "stroll on in"?
any updates on time?
Okay, I spoke to someone in the basketball department in person. It is a closed scrimmage, and they can't divulge the time. Since it is part of the NCAA 'secret scrimmage' practice allotment, those are part of the regulations.
Sorry I heightened anyone's excitement with this. At least we know that we are in the gym working hard against other Power 5 teams. I'm going to guess that between Buzz & Frank Martin, there will be more than a little bit of 'hard coaching' going on...
More important question: will they kick us out if we happen to be in Cassel at the time of the scrimmage?
That's part of why they wouldn't confirm whether the scrimmage was in Cassell or in Hahn-Hurst, nor the time. They were very politely, yet extremely, FIRM that the scrimmage was closed. Personally, I think that they would indeed ask someone to escort you out. I'll just wait for info to leak out next week.
I would assume no. I've walked into Cassell on the morning of a game and saw the team practicing. Sat there and watched for a little while. The coaches and players all saw me but nobody really cared.
Those are open scrimmages that have routinely had fans invited to attend, at least during Greenberg's tenure. I don't remember Johnson's era having that attention to detail, though. There's a vast difference in an intrasquad practice or an informal pickup game with recruits, and in a structured scrimmage between the Hokies and another school's team.
They will not welcome visitors. That's as clear as I can make it, because they made it very clear to me when I asked.
