I had seen several days ago that Buzz listed Liberty Flames head coach Dale Layer as one of the most influential people in his life. I found that interesting, but didn't understand why. Knowing Buzz was devout, and knowing Liberty University, I thought the connection might be faith based as a result of some meeting this summer.
The actual connection is much more deep, and more telling of the unique character of Buzz Williams.

Buzz is certainly high energy and intense during games. Knowing how the ACC has treated newcomers in the past, one might be concerned about how Buzz will be treated once ACC play begins. After reading multiple stories like this, and watching how Buzz interacts with officials and the coaching community, though, I think he will be given a clean slate and allowed to integrate well. Buzz's charisma is hard to reject.

Not sure if you noticed during the handshakes after the game, Buzz hugged Layer's son, who is a guard on the Liberty team as they went down the line while only having handshakes for everyone else. Shows how deep the connection is there.
Similar to how Buzz welcomed Ace Custis prior to the UMES game. He gave him a five second bear hug, then whispered something in his ears for a few moments. Buzz just seems incredible about building relationships.
I think that will be evident early in his tenure with the rest of the coaches in the ACC. Also, with some of the old Big East fraternity now in the ACC, I think he will be treated as well as could be desired.

That group with Raveling was the second thing I ever saw about Buzz on YouTube back when he was mentioned as a possible hire. Very insightful, and also instructive even going back now with other knowledge of him.
