Comments

1. Jimbo Fisher, Florida State - Although he deserves serious demerits for his utter lack of accountability with Jameis and suspect record keeping players on the straight and narrow, he can coach and he can win. And he won it all.
2. David Cutcliffe, Duke - I remember when Cutcliffe was up for the Duke job and thinking "sweet baby jesus, no." This man deserved a stint at a powerhouse program and took the Duke job to ride out his career. It took a while, because you know... Duke, but he got the job done because he is an excellent coach and a man of seemingly high moral fiber.
3. Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech - Very few coaches have done what Beamer has with VT, building it into something from nearly nothing. He has won A LOT in the ACC and even our down years has led VT to bowl games. He's made his mistakes, but he is a great coach, a great leader and wonderful person. His history and coaching ability keeps him above the rest on the list.
4. Dabo Swinney, Clemson _ agree full stop with Andy. Dabo knows what he's not, and he is not a coach. He's an organizer and recruiter. That's important for a HC for sure, but I disagree somewhat that it makes up for not being a great coach in his own right.
5. Paul Johnson, Georgia Tech / Bobby Petrino, Louisville - I begrudgingly put these two tied for 5. Yes they both can coach very well, and both win everywhere they go. But I have a personal issue with both of them and what type of man they are, and I think the HC should be an ambassador for the school and the sport of football as much as just being a coach. Petrino's litany of dumbassery speaks for itself, and well I simply dislike Johnson with some #sources that I know in regards to how he coaches young men, plus he's a dick and chopgate.
7. Steve Addazio, Boston College - I really like Addazio. BC finally found their guy. Seems like a great coach for the North East and will put a highly competitive team on the field every year I believe.
8. Dave Doeren, N.C. State - I somewhat followed his career. He did an amazing young at Northern Illinois and I think he is going to be tough at NCST.
9. Larry Fedora, North Carolina / Al Golden, Miami - tied for lack of program control and coaching ability.
11. Dave Clawson, Wake Forest - Next 3 are just following the link. I don't know much about them.
12. Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh
13. Scott Shafer, Syracuse
14. Mike London, Virginia - This is London's last year, or rather last half of the year. We should all formerly thank him for dragging lolUVA to even greater lol levels. I will be sad when he is gone, YOU! should be too. I just wish I could call a timeout with the lolUVA admin this year but Timecop has already used all 6 of his. It's a shame but hey, maybe the thoroughbreds need a new coach.

Thoroughbreds' new coach:

-What we do is, if we need that extra push, you know what we do? -Put it up to fully dipped? -Fully dipped. Exactly. It's dork magic.

12. Pat Narduzzi, Pittsburgh

This is a preview of Bud Foster as Head Coach

From 2011-2014, Michigan State was the only team to rank in the FBS Top 10 in total defense and rushing defense.

Yeah I think the only reason he is so low is because he hasn't been an hc before

Our motto bringing spirit true, that we may ever serve you

4. Dabo Swinney, Clemson _ agree full stop with Andy. Dabo knows what he's not, and he is not a coach. He's an organizer and recruiter. That's important for a HC for sure, but I disagree somewhat that it makes up for not being a great coach in his own right.

I do think Dabo is a great coach. He's brought in assistants and established a system. When high level assistant leaves (Chad Morris), someone else can quickly/easily step up (Scott/Elliot). Beamer has only managed to do this on one side of the ball. Just because Dabo is not an X's/O's guy does not mean he's not a great 'coach'. It's not like he doesn't know/understand his playbook.

With regards to PJ, I think the biggest knock against him is that he seems to ignore the defensive side of the ball. GT would be a top 10 team every year with a half decent defense. I'm not sure you can knock someone for being a jerk, unless it interferes with there on the field performance (unlike Petrino).

EDIT: I think the sign of a good coach is someone who can create and maintain a system/identity, where players and/or assistants can come and go, but the results stay positive. The best coaches have all successfully done this (Jimbo, Saban, Carroll, Peterson, Dabo, etc).

well I do have Dabo as #4, that's pretty good. But I do feel his biggest strength is by surrounding himself with better coaches than he is, and not in the fact that he himself is a great coach.

For PJ, again that has that has to do with #source from a friend that played for him before, so it's not anything that can be repeated because it can't be substantiated. But I trust my friend more than nearly anyone and thus it has shaped my opinion of PJ. I lumped him with Petrino because I don't respect either one of them but they still can coach and win.

Dabo and Jimbo have not successfully replaced any great coordinators as of yet. The success of both Charles Kelly and Clemson's new OC tandem are tbd.

fernleyhokie's list is spot on. Without having ties...I think Paul Johnson over Bobby Petrino and Larry Fedora over Al Golden, because they don't need to have the more talented roster to win the game. Clawson and Narduzzi have potential to climb in future rankings.

your tiebreakers are spot on as well.

I just hope loluva keeps bringing in coaches like groh and london. Keep that dumpster fire blazin'

Onward and upward

I think Petrino is one of the 5 best head coaches in college football.

He certainly has the youngest girlfriends.
