"Sumlin doesn't back down from challenges. He smirked at a reporter's question asking if Sumlin ever thought he wouldn't be able to hire Chavis.
"I don't think like that. You know that," Sumlin said. "You've known me now for three years. If I thought like that, I wouldn't join this league.""
I wonder if there is another guy out there he feels he couldn't hire??

"The most important characteristic is tight man coverage by cornerbacks and aggressive rush by ends". Seen this for years , by the best d/ coordinator in football . Just shows that money can't buy everything!
I like Sumlins attitude on this. His defense was as pathetic as our offense has been and went got what he considered the best to fix it. Deep pockets help.
Deep pockets may help , but it is refreshing to see loyalty, dedication, commitment , faithfulness, fidelity and allegiance to ones work. Deep pockets "May" have gotten second best.
Point well taken! In my mind, I like to think Bud wasn't really available therefore Chavis was the next best thing.
Sep 7= Total Hokie Domination
The best is hearing OSU fans talk about Bud not being that great (few and far between, but they're out there.) one guy on 11W said VT was about the 7th best defense they faced last year. That's cute.
Is he the same idiot who said he wouldn't be happy unless anOSU wi s by 45
Would love to hear the rationale behind that. I would guess it's based on the outdated argument of yards per game, while ignoring that OSU played in the worst power 5 conference on offense.
The fans that had ventured over here have been wonderful, but as with all fan bases (and VT is no exception) there are some folks that are uninformed and delusional.
...talk about delusional. We held them to 21 points, and our D is overrated??
Well, they were young and inexperienced... because they're the only team of the two (or in the country) that was young and inexperienced...
It's easy to understand why they're excited. They won the national championship, return 17 starters, and have 7 or so All-American caliber guys... but at least give credit where credit is due and acknowledge that a team that beat you last year isn't Eastern Michigan and has SOME talent/skill... And virtually no college team is unbeatable.
From the article I read about this, Chavis should pay his buyout.
It's just business, ya know.
