VT was great today Mann , All love there , Glad to be a Hokie now — Tavante Beckett (@Tavante4) July 26, 2015
2016 outside linebacker Tavante Beckett verbally committed to the Hokies, Saturday at the Frank Beamer BBQ. Bryan Stinespring and Bud Foster offered Beckett in person in early May, and it was the one he was waiting on.
"I was just so surprised, I looked over at my coach like 'huh,'" Beckett told The Key Play in May. "He just goes 'you know that means they're offering right?' I was just so happy, I couldn't believe it."
"It was really tough and stressful, and everybody saw how it was affecting me, but now I'm just so grateful to have (the offer)," Beckett added.
Two months later, he picked the Hokies over Wisconsin.
Beckett is rated a 3-star prospect by the 247Sports composite.
"I grew up a Hokie fan, Michael Vick was one of my favorite players growing up," Beckett told The Key Play after a February junior day visit to Virginia Tech. "I know a lot of guys that went there or go there now. They were always one of my favorites, one of my top schools, but after my visit, they look even better."
757 belongs to Virginia Tech today! #BeamerBBQ #Sandman16 pic.twitter.com/scfiuV9xKQ— Thomas Guerry (@thomasguerry) July 25, 2015
The 6-1, 220 pound the Indian River product has plenty of 757 connections. He transferred from Oscar Smith to Indian River prior to his senior season after his family moved, but was teammates with current Tech players like Jaylen Bradshaw, DeShawn McClease and god-brother J.C. Coleman at Oscar Smith.
"When (Josh) Sweat went down last year, I stepped in and played his role," Beckett added in February. "I had 135 tackles and 15 sacks. I can block punts, sack the quarterback, and when I intercept the ball I don't just go down, I can make a play."

Keep them coming! Welcome to the Hokies!
2016 4-star Alabama commitment Jaqua Yulee shared this.
Are you telling me there's a chance? :-)
Fingers crossed
More like one in a million...
Nice.
Glad to see VT is pulling out ALL the stops in the recruitment.

I am sure it was just happenstance that the cheerleading squad was hanging around Merryman that day
The dude brings the hammer. He's going to be a great fit!
What an awesome get! That run on the pick 6 is priceless.
Which one?
The first one I guess?
Holy moly.
I love it when we recruit someone who also had offers from a good school like wisconsin. Welcome senor beckett
whatever's in the bbq, they need to keep feeding prospective recruits because it's working wonders! LOL
welcome to Hokie Nation, Beckett!
With two commits and plenty of athletes in attendance , Beamer BBQ sounds like a success.
Looks like a demon on special teams with a play-to-the-echo-of-the-whistle mean streak. AND HE'S OURS!!!
Suck it, Wisky!

I saw him play a few times last season and he was ALWAYS around the ball. He is a strong finisher on his tackles as well!
Welcome to the Hokie Land. Work hard and make your dreams come true.
Dude doesn't just tackle, he inflicts pain. Yes, please.
What are we not seeing that makes this guy only a 3 star prospect? Because just from that highlight tape I'd take him in my front 7 every damn day of the week.
Who else offered him? Honestly that's how I feel about the "ranking" of a lot of these kids. Who offers is more important than how the kid plays.
Wisconsin offered him and wanted him bad. Beckett absolutely dominanted against top competition last year. I think that he will be the steal of this year's class.
I think he looks like great player and I trust our coaches and their offers, they just don't throw them out there. But the rankers didn't see any SEC offers or blue chip programs so in their mind kid must not be great. It's a failing in the ranking system I think.
He's undersized, especially for what SEC and Big 10 schools tend to see over the course of a season. But he fits our system very well and, like was said above, he was dominant last year even against top competition. He was definitely a guy where, when you watched Oscar Smith last year, he really stood out.
I think I've said it before, but he's a steal for us.
I lost count of the number of pancakes in that video.
I think the only conclusion one can glean from this, is VT is Bak to owning the 757
o, we bak
