Hokies Take Care of Business in Top Advanced Metrics Win since 2023
The Hokies took care of business in their first trip to visit an ACC member in California last Saturday in their 31-7 win over Stanford. In terms of Net EPA per play, this was the fourth best win of Brent Pry's career (behind UVA, Wake Forest, and Syracuse last season) and the strongest of 2024. It was the 9th best game of Week 6, and the 5th best among major conference schools.
Hokies Injury Updates
Pry touched on these today.
P J Prioleau to miss significant time
Brent Pry says RB P.J. Prioleau is going to be out for a good amount of time. #Hokiesโ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 9, 2024
Stroman likely to miss the season.
New College Football Transfer Portal dates for this year announced
NCAA just announced that this year they have reduced the transfer windows to 30 total days, down from 45. The dates are December 9th to December 28th. The Spring portal will be April 16th 2025 to April 25th 2025.
This seems rather dense on their part, not surprising for the NCAA. The spring one doesn't pose a huge issue but the winter one means many players will be forced to declare before bowl games. Seems a rather stupid decision and I expect their will be backlash for it.
The 30 day exception in event of a coaching change is still in place.
Graduate transfer are now required to use these same windows to declare.

Other Games - Week 7

UNLV and Syracuse is a better game than I expected. Honestly thought UNLV was going to mop the floor with the Orange.
Small Improvements Not Enough For Top Ten Upset (Week 5 Advanced Stats Review)
Every week Parker Fleming of College Football Insiders posts the "How Badly Did We Get Beat" chart on Twitter, a look at net success rate between the winning team over the losing team. On the right hand side are games where the winning teams dominated in victory, while on the right are teams that lucked into a win (looking at you, Rutgers vs. Washington).
Captains and OL Flying Delta One
VT took a widebody plane to California. It looks like an Boeing 767-300, which is generally reserved for long international flights but also used for New York to LA and other premium cross-country flights. The Captains and OL were in the First Class Delta One pods, which are like little bedrooms with seats that can recline into a bed. I guess the DL probably flew in the business class. I've flown business class (free upgrade once), and those seats are big and comfortable. I have never flown Delta One, but those seats are luxurious. The OL and Captains should be well-rested.

DT Kemari Copeland ruled out for the year with a torn tricep
Torn triceps muscle will sideline #Hokies DT Kemari Copeland for the rest of the year. Malachi Madison got in for a few snaps at Miami as the fifth DT. Will be interesting if VT works freshman Emmett Laws into mix. Could play him in four of last seven games and keep redshirt. https://t.co/1aXYjIsj77โ Andy Bitter (@AndyBitterVT) October 1, 2024
Wish him a healthy and quick recovery.
The march to the P2 continues - SEC and Big Ten working on exclusive scheduling agreement & take control of playoff committee
ESPN: Big Ten, SEC to talk possible scheduling partnership
Big Ten and SEC athletic directors will discuss a possible partnership in football scheduling, along with their preferences for automatic bids, in the next iteration of the College Football Playoff.
The discussion is to take place at an in-person meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, next week, multiple sources from both conferences told ESPN on Monday.
Week 5: Other Games Thread
I don't see this thread so I'll start with why is ole miss wearing THAT color blue? It doesn't match their helmet, and it kind of matches KY's helmet stripe.
Go Hokies!
Last week was doom and gloom and how much bourbon would it take to survive the Miami game.
We even had a thread for survival tips.
Laments of whether we could even get bowl eligible and possibly losing out.
Our Hokies came within 1 play, refferee call OR a few seconds from beating a legit top 10 on the road. It was a thrilling nail biter of a game
They played the whole game. Dumb penalties were very minimal. Our explosive plays were in abundance just as one of our crew posted an excellent post identifying that exact thing as our strength.
Our team yesterday, on national TV on Friday night showed we are capable of winning out.
Soooo damn close!
Let's Go!
Jerry Magallanes, the head ref who overturned the Felton TD was suspended by the ACC in 2015 for botching the Duke/Miami ending
Strange but trueJerry Magallanes was the referee in tonight's Virginia Tech-Miami (FL) thriller AND the 2015 Miami (FL)-Duke lateral ending (h/t @ADavidHaleJoint) pic.twitter.com/8C7peGkT0Pโ Unnecessary Roughness (@UnnecRoughness) September 28, 2024
Look, I'm not saying this is blatantly league office corruption at play, but I'm also definitely saying that it absolutely looks like it is.
Had we played this well the first four
In the first four games, this would still be heartbreaking, but we would be 4-1.
I loved the fight in this team, but we saw a complete game tonight. It's on the coaches that we haven't seen that until now.
This game just goes to show that the coaching is still a massive question mark.
With that said, quarterback coaching is not great. Drones consistently throws behind his receivers. Say what you will about Bowen as OC, but we he is not cutting it as QB coach.
Brent Pry Lost that Game Vent Thread
Time out on 4th and 10 with 25 seconds left prior to kicking a 58 yard field goal.
Squibbing a kickoff with 20 seconds left.
Absolutely mind numbing clock usage in 2 minute drill.
The fake fg was at least aggressive but id prefer we just ran it twice on 3rd and 4th.
Double 17s
I know we're winning and all, but this is a fireable offense.
