Virginia Tech Football Recruiting: JoVonn Quillen Commits to the Hokies

Hokies land their first in-state prospect of the 2016 cycle.

2016 Hampton athlete JoVonn Quillen announced his verbal commitment to Virginia Tech this evening.

The 6-2, 190 pound high school quarterback isn't currently ranked by 247Sports or Rivals. According to The Key Play's Alex Koma, Quillen is he Marshawn Williams' cousin, and Tyrod Taylor has mentored him. Quillen plays both QB and CB, and would likely play CB or FS for the Hokies. Quillen has previously said Tech is his "dream school," and he's been to campus plenty.

Go to the 7:22 mark of his highlights.... single handedly jukes out the entire defense.

I say we keep him at QB. I'm seeing the second coming of Tyrod.

Good athlete, but he has a big hill to climb at QB with the competition coming in. It would be a mutually bad decision for VT and the kid, IMO.

I think VT is much more inclined these days to put players in a place starting almost day 1 where they are most likely to succeed and can most benefit the program. I could be wrong, but I don't see this kid ever taking a snap at QB.

According to 247, he's being recruited as an athlete and is probably going to play on the defensive side of the ball as either a CB or FS

We do have a slew of '16 commits already, I checked the forums from a year ago and didn't see much on commits.. We were all still a little butthurt from signing day, and we heard of a Texas tech QB transferring somewhere....
