About a year ago at this time, the Hokies seemed out of the race to earn a commitment from highly touted 2019 DB Tayvion "Tank" Land out of Virginia Beach's Bishop Sullivan HS.
But these days, Virginia Tech seems to be back in the driver's seat.
Land became Tech's first commitment of the 2019 cycle all the way back in July 2016, but he backed off that pledge by February 2017. Not only did Land, who's rated a 4-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite ranking, seem a sure bet to head elsewhere, but Tech's entire recruiting relationship with Bishop Sullivan seemed in jeopardy following the last-minute decommitment of WR Tahj Capehart.
