[Mark Umansky]
The Key Play's Mark Umansky and Ryan Dye were on-hand for the Hokies' first football practice of the summer. Ryan's in the process of writing his practice report, but in the meantime watch the videos of Virginia Tech's Merryman Athletic Facility renovation Mark and Ryan captured.

Great footage. Looks way different than during the Spring Game. Nice sneak peek at the d-line drills, also.
You're welcome for that sneak peak. ;)
Fantastic! I love how the Orange and Maroon just seem to go together so well!
This looks really awesome, but has the Merryman center always been so football-centric? I know football pretty much funds everything at VT but I thought the Merryman Center was the athletic facility for all sports. For instance, if we were to win a wrestling title where will it be displayed?
Probably at the museum in Lane. They have a section for each sport.
Man that looks good - The anthracite really makes the orange look real good, and makes it look extremely modern. And if the styles change, they should be able to slap on a coat of maroon to make it scream VT again.
Can't wait to see the Bristol uniforms if they're the reported anthracite and orange like we've been hearing.
Something off about that "fire hose" in video 2. (~30 secs in)
Fire codes no longer require them and as a firefighter I'd prefer for there not to be one already preconnected to the standpipe. People don't inspect or test them.
Just thought it was comical that everything else is updated and they still labeled it that way.
But is it asking too much to have the word "hose" replaced with "extinguisher"?
The standpipe is still there.
In your opinion, was there anything they could do to make it look better? I mean, that just sticks out like a ridiculous sore thumb, as they just removed the hose, and let that be that (maybe they're going to put in a new one shortly?). If the goal was to remove the hose, could they have just filled in everything, keeping the pipe exposed, and then had the Fire Extinguisher in its own encasement, or would that violate code?
I'm not familiar enough with Virginia and specifically Blacksburg fire code for high occupancy building. But there would have to be some kind of large opening there for the standpipe since it's turned to the side like that and I don't would want the connection sticking out into the walkway where someone coming around the corner would walk into it.
This makes the LOLUVA McCue Center (their offices) look staid and dated. Of course, they have very little in the way of bowl displays.
