Justin Fuente's Post-Game Speech Following Virginia Tech's 34-3 Thumping of North Carolina

Fuente is fired up after the Hokies beat the Tar Heels.

Justin Fuente passionately addressed the Hokies' locker room after Virginia Tech cruised to a road win over No. 17 North Carolina.

"You should be very proud, you should be very proud," Fuente exclaimed. "But you need to also know why we're in this situation. We're in this situation because of the way we work, the way we prepare, and ultimately the way we play."

Comments

Yes, he's a Hokie.

I hope he loves Blacksburg as much as Blacksburg loves him. Other programs are going to come sniffing around.

The Dude Abides

Can we just not?

Can't we just enjoy this ride without constantly trying to throw cold water all over everyone because of the hypothetical situation where he might leave us for somewhere else?

This is my school
This is home

THANK YOU

Edit: Nope, there was never any potentially jinx-y comment here ever. Move about your business.

That was awesome.

Awesome.

We went and took the SOB, right from 'em!

Keep 'em grounded, Coach.

Everyone else, though... ALL ABOARD!!!

"These people are losing their minds!"

ALL ABOARD!!

Not sure if this has been shared on TKP yet. But I saw this on Reddit and I about died watching it.

Warning: is loud

I loved seeing Beamer dance as much as anyone but the seriousness the Fuente shows after wins, he means business. Also, this clip shows what they mean when they say Rodgers is a coach on the field. Go Hokies!!

"Win or lose we'll greet you with a glad returning!"

There isn't a single thing I don't love about this clip. From Fuentes fire, to Sams leadership. From the desire to get better and not stop, to the acknowledgement of the defense by Fuente and the reaction by Charlie and Bud...good stuff all around.

I love this team.

A new season...new hope

Tyrod did it Mikey, Tyrod did it!!

We're gonna build a statue of that dude before it's all said and done.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

Let's build one for Frank first

I honestly expect that announcement any time now.

"I liked you guys a lot better when everybody told you you were terrible." -Justin Fuente

And Coach Foster.

Go Hokies!

Hell, let's just make a Hokie Mount Rushmore. Frank, Bud, MV7, Bruce, ...let's give Fuente a little bit more than 5 games. Who do y'all think should be there?

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Assuming Fuente doesn't leave, by the end of next season you might have to do separate coaches & a players.

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

Buzz should be considered.

Pain is Temporary, Chicks Dig Scars
Glory is Forever, Let's Go Hokies!!

I'd say that both Buzz and Fuente need to at least get us to their respective tournaments/playoffs before we really consider them on the same level as Frank and Bud. Even if it's just one appearance in the top 8/4, that's the bar.

2022 Season Challenge: TBD
Previous Challenges: Star Wars (2019), Marvel (2020), Batman (2021)

Agreed, just widening the scope a bit.
Also, if we are placing great VT athletes in there, then Angela Tincher needs to be considered as well.

You had best put Dell Curry up there.

Hokies

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

This gave me goosebumps. You could grate Parmesan on my shin. Wow.

Watching the game (about 2.5 times) and now seeing this just cements what I'm sure a lot of us suspected about CJF: that he's not only a great offensive mind. He's a great motivator and unifier.

I've been looking forward to seeing how players within each position group would react to the reality of shared playing time. Our rushing and receiving stat sheets run 6-7 players deep, we have 7-8 OL getting meaningful snaps, and we platoon at DT, DE, and CB. To see T-Mac so geeked for the successes of other runners; to see our "starting" OLine run off the field after a touchdown and get mobbed by the backups; to see Adonis celebrate a Stroman pass breakup as if he did it himself; it does my heart good to see these kids enjoying team successes. Stands to reason, I guess, since so many guys contribute & get to feel like a part of it.

I know we have good skill guys, and veteran linemen on both sides, and all that. But CJF has changed the vibe around this team, and It. Is. Exciting. As. Hell.

Also, Jerod Evans is going to be a pretty decent QB. #calledit

LLLLLLET'S GOOOOOO...

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

It was also great to see the offensive and defensive players individually congratulating each other during the game.

Our offense has always appreciated our defense, but I believe the defense now knows they have an offense to back them up.

From what I have seen and read Fuente is all about TEAM, and it is pretty amazing how these guys seem to have fully bought into that, with the drawback of possibly less personal recognition. That's a huge change for almost all of those young guys, who were All-stars, the BMOC and lavished with praise in HS. Credit goes to the entire staff, including the S&C Coordinator.

If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is probably not for you.

I see much more energy from the players these past few weeks. Winning cures a lot of ills but I feel this team maturing and supporting one another. I really want a piece of an undefeated Clemson in the Acccg.

Sam FREAKING Rogers.

That is all.

So can we just clone Sam Rogers and Kyle Fuller?

Go Hokies!

Kylesam Fullerogers.

Tweedy can run like a dadgum antelope or whatever. I like to use scalded dog. Do antelopes lumber? Cheetah, OK. He runs like a cheetah. He's fast. - Bud Foster

I'm with your HokieAGR! We have not seen a post game talk like that in 10 years? What a rejuvenation in spirt and team work! The new "tude will be mentioned more than once again through out the year! Fu has come in and resuscitated the entire program, even Bud! Good lord he has help now! He was Socrates trying to find a fulcrum to support the world. Man he must be feeling his oats. They all are!

Years ago I used to go nuts at the TV (or at Lane) when we screwed up or made a good play. I then taught myself to let it go. We know the whole thing was at the bottom of the sine wave. I still temper my attitude during a game but find it hard now to not get to amped up; I find myself jumping again with a good/bad play! FU has gotten to me through the 0/1s! Imagine listening to him on a daily basis!

The guy is a beast on and off the field. Thank you Witt.

Now all of you are on the hype train. I'm buying into the Hype STV:

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

I have to say, I have a strong affection for Fuente.

I think he was the correct choice for VT, and the fact that they managed to retain Bud is just fantastic.

It's early yet, but I expect great things.

I have to say, I have a strong affection for Fuente.

I believe we refer to that as a man crush and welcome to the club.

Fuente's pregame speech was even better.

Β

Yeah, that got me hype.

I want to go chop down redwoods with my bare hands now.

I'm with ya pierce... after I watched the game the second time, I was ready to go bear hunting with a flyswatter... any way to get any video of Bud post game locker room fire? You know he's hyped by their efforts the last 3 weeks....

"Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth."

Awesome GIF.., EXACTLY how I'm feeling about this team right now!

"Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth."

SO PUMPED

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

Ahhhh..Fucking A!

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

When you were a kid, you used to go out when it was raining, and play football ALL F*CKIN' DAY

Did I hear that right?

Get your ass on the ground and we'll party

You're the only ones that I can talk to about this, you guys.

I'm not worried about him leaving for another school, he is NFL bound in a few years.

Eh, I don't think so. The non pro-style Chip Kelly experiment hasn't gone so well. College has started the shift to spread them out hurry up no huddle offense, but I don't think the NFL is quite as accepting to change.

I don't think Chip's system is the problem. I think his eccentricities coupled with head scratching personnel decisions are the problem. NFL offenses use spread concepts effectively today. Have been for years.

Onward and upward

Toward the end when CJF is saying, "go out there and do your job longer and harder than the guy across from you" you can just see on Sam's face that he's thinking, "is there any chance that there's a guy on their team who works longer and harder than me?
"...
"...
"nope."

"Our job as coaches is to influence young people's lives for the better in terms of fundamental skills, work ethic, and doing the right thing. Every now and again, a player actually has that effect on the coaching staff." Justin Fuente on Sam Rogers

Me in the backyard after watching that.

His speeches inspire, motive and teach a lesson.

Cyclones are funny like that. One place gets lots of damage, and the brick wall with no mortar right next door is completely untouched.

(/s, hope your damages/cleanup are minimal along with your neighbors)

We did fine, maybe lost a few shingles, and power, but my in laws got hammered, tree across entire front yard and driveway and top half of a tree into roof and back sunroom porch.

Glad that is all they have to deal with, although roof repair (and water damage) can take a while to overcome.

The only request I've gotten from my tenant is that a gate at the back of the property was blown down. My property is 20-30 miles inland and not a flood zone category, but anything can happen. (Summerville, Berkeley County)

Inland actually got hit harder than coast, more rain ALOT more rain and some high winds also. Lumberton NC, Florence SC and places in between are in bad shape.

Hilgart's back there all, "Raincoats are for pussies."

I like Fu's character and the impact of that character on the players and especially the coaches. I believe we are in ass kicking mode.

man...that look on Bud Fosters Face during the speech

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Does anyone else get the sense that Sam Rogers is going to end up like Fuente one day? Except he will blow up other teams with his motivational speeches.

...I am starting to feel something...something I have not felt for several years....and...well...I like it!

A new season...new hope

Thank you Coach Fuente. Thank you for letting us truly enjoy Saturdays again.

Stick it in! Stick it in!
