Virginia Tech defended its rank, on the road, against a ranked opponent, and in a hurricane. North Carolina GIFTORY appears, because it's not like it has to go to class on Wednesday.
Stroman played a one-man tip drill game.

STUCK.

Do we credit Woody Baron with a pancake on No. 75 too?

Edmunds heat seeking missile fired.

That feeling when there's leftover birthday cake for breakfast.

Hokie Nation π―.

Might as well throw the only pass in the second half for a touchdown.

Translation: Ice in the veins. (I think.)

Butt slap.

Trubisky put the ball right on the money for Motuapuaka.

Virginia Tech is up 27-3 with 8:14 left in the fourth quarter and Sam Rogers is flipping pancakes.

VICTORY HUG.

Right where only the receiver can get it. Beautiful throw.
Hadn't seen it from that vantage. Real nice grab.
OP those are some great captions.
It seemed he had better ability to catch passes than Ryan Switzer
You don't want to go high over the middle there, you want to lead Motu where only he can get it. Great touch there, Mitch.
Rewatched the game last night and noticed at one point Fedora admitted to the sideline reporter that the rain had "kept them from being able to throw the ball very well."
Of course, I believe this report occurred about halfway through the 3rd quarter. At which point it didn't really matter. My point is, I'm so glad our coaches have brains in their heads and aren't stubbornly wedded to one way of doing things on either side of the ball.
Its easy to identify stubborn offensive playcalling that is unwilling to adapt to what the opponent is giving you when we've seen it being run firsthand by our staff the previous 15 years.
This is the knock on Fedora from me, he can't in game coach, yet people think he will be hired away to a top school.
You think an AD will look that closely? They are going to look at recruiting and on field results. He just won the Coastal last year and his records have improved year over year. He has brought in good recruiting classes. He will get calls...if he hasn't already.
Think of all the coaches in the past that have gotten hired by big programs. They are littered with coaches that are deficient in one or more areas of coaching.
And since LSU has a myopic focus on improving offense, these days, he will be offered big bucks to coach there.
I doubt he's their first choice, but I think he will benefit from the game of musical coaches that LSU and maybe Texas, ND, Oregon, Auburn, etc will all be playing.
They won't get their 1st or 2nd choice.
STUCK-
...and that play burned #2's red shirt. Maybe he'll transfer.
(edit: I'm glad we don't have to burn red shirts for running backs)
I saw this in the gallery and thought "When did Trubisky get tackled into the endzone?"

Thankfully, I have Giftory to remind me how that really went down...
Chuck Clark at the end, "There's Coach Fuente and Coach Foster hugging again. Nothing to see here."
Chuck appears to be uncomfortable with his coaches' PDA, but they don't care who sees or who knows.

I really can't figure out who carries who for "Eagle"

I find it a little funnier if Fuente carried Bud though. It's probably how he feels with an offense now.
Bud = Dr. Cox
BUTT SLAP!!!
I find it funny that it looks like that got flagged.
I believe that particular infraction is referred to as "Giving him the business" by this referee crew.
Thanks Joe, always enjoy watching these!
In the Sights and Sounds of Gameday video, you hear Evans say something about ice in his veins with this motion. So yea. Was curious about this one too after the bow and arrow went away.
I prefer the Legolas myself with the bow motion. Thought that was awesome, but I know that coaches might not agree.
Legoas>>heroin addict
ESPN ran that as part of their highlight series on this game. Personally, I think its a bad look. I get it and what it's supposed to mean, but its still not a great look to most people. I hope he can find something that is less likely to be misinterpreted.
NBA players do this all the time, EDIT
Steph Curry, one of the most popular athletes in sports, first comes to mind. Sorry guys, I think I saw Steph do it last year.I have no problem with it. I don't think many sports fans are interpreting this as him promoting heroin use. Non-sports fans don't count
EDIT: I just think players should be allowed to celebrate however they want without criticism. If Evans is celebrating, I'm likely celebrating in a less publicly appropriate way while at home watching, so I can't hate
Uh I don't think I remember Steph doing it. I know Nick Young is known for it. But I don't think Curry is. Just me being nit-picky though.
DeAngelo Russell has popularized it
Ah, yeah, not necessarily amongst the most popular players. I still believe I've seen Steph do it, but no proof after some mild internet searching though, so I'll just put my foot in my mouth
yet
The kid can play. Now that the Kobe show is gone and LA can move forward, he should explode within the next few years. And its not like LA isn't going to throw money around in free agency to bring some other great players to town to team up with him.
Hahaha, so I saw the pic, and saw Nick Young in the comment above that and combined the two in my head. Big difference, Swaggy P is not even amongst the most popular players on his own team.
Assuming good health, Russell is going to be a monster though, I agree
I don't mind the sentiment of the celebration, however Russell looks like he's pointing...Jerod looks like an excited phlebotomist.
Everyone associates the bow-and-arrow celebration with Legolas. I think it's actually Robin Hood. In the original story, Robin Hood ultimately meets his demise when one of his veins was opened to remove some blood, which was a common treatment for a variety of ailments at the time. However, instead of taking a pint or two and closing it up, the "doctor", for lack of a better word, intentionally cut him too deep, locked him in a room, and he essentially bled out. I think if you go back and look though the course of the season, Evans' celebrations have been a performance art, illustrating the entire Robin Hood saga. The only issue I could potentially see with it is people taking it as an implicit endorsement of vigilante justice, which is sort of a moral gray area for me, but he seems to just be telling the story without taking a stance or passing any moral judgements on the matter, so I'm okay with it.
Glad I'm not alone on that
I think there's a difference between what should be allowed and what should be encouraged. I wouldn't try to discipline him or anything, but the problem I have with the bow-and-arrow and the ice-in-the-veins are that they are individual celebrations, not team celebrations.
The bow is so much better than the ice in veins move.
The bow and arrow thing just got Norman (Skins) a nice little fine last week.
Well he is playing in the No Fun League.
Man that Bud/Fuente hug has all the feels
A few thoughts -
1.) Chuck Clark's speed, awareness and ability to tackle are put on display in that first gif. That guy has great instincts and he was able to cover about 12 yards to make that tackle for loss. Incredible.
2.) Tremaine Edmunds is something special and has insane potential. His quickness and versatility as a linebacker is second to none and his ability to make plays in big situations is impressive. Trubisky probably thought he had him beat but Edmunds was just too fast.
3.) That Fuente, Foster hug was probably the longest in duration I've seen from those two. I think they really have formed a solid relationship and trust each other. That was a solid 3-4 second hug.
4.) I don't care what any college football analysts say, this team has some DUDES. We have guys that get after and wreak havoc, both defensively and offensively. This team has what it takes to do something special.
Is Tremaine Edmunds really 6'5" and 236lbs? Is he really that big....and fast?
And notice the 3 lineman & Motu flowing to different layers down the sideline - including Hill picking up the RB From the backside. Even if Tribisky slips Edmunds' grasp - unpossible, I know - there is nowhere to go.
A thing of beauty.
Re the Clark play. Watch little Edmunds on that one. Takes on 2 blockers and forces the play to Clark. Perfectly executed.
Noticed that as well. Turns to get Outside leverage and create the alley for Chuck to fill. Would like to see Lil E (Is this a thing yet?) shed the blocker though. Push-Pull.
His job is to keep the runner from getting outside and force him inside to the free man (Clark). Shedding the blocker(s) is secondary.
Fuente said the other night he refers to them as Little Edmunds and Big Edmunds, so that's a thing.
I'd prefer Big Edmunds and Huge Edmunds, but what do I know
I hear ya, but I'm just quoting Fuente. And that makes it acceptable.
Oh definitely a secondary thing. Establish position first, but he does that and doesn't shed afterwards. As said before, push-pull. Would like for him to shed it and be in position to do a couple of things.
So nice to re-live the memories of that game. It was so old school,
almost like school yard stuff in a way.
Not often you get not one , but 2 mentions, of the word 'school' when referring to anything UNC is a part of. Well done.
Even coaches get butt slaps on this team!
In Soviet Russia QB butt slaps YOU!
Fuente and Foster have a straight up bromance going on and I like it! These 2 gonna set the world on fire. #LIT
Edmunds goes 20 yards to Trubiskys 5. That's fast AF. WoW!
In Trubisky's defense, it was raining on his side of the ball /s
Winning is fun.
#36 that Rogers flipped...didn't Teller also shove him around a sizable chunk of the field on a play earlier in the game?
I love how fired up Evans gets during these games
On the second clip we have textbook Bud Foster Run Defense. Tremaine Edmunds spills the ball wide. Clark is there perfectly to fill the alley. I have talked a bunch about the linebacker play. Chuck Clark's tackling coming up from the deep safety position has improved significantly as well.
So glad that Evans giving Coach Fu an attaboy during a timeout actually happened, I was not sure if it was a drunken memory, lol...
I think the Butt slap came after CJF chewed on #4 for the play before.
That attaboy was after Evans got flagged for intentional grounding.
Coach Fu was yelling "Check down! Check down!" because Evans had Juice or some RB wide open in the flat.
Evans was nodding saying my bad coach then gave him the old butt slap to say, "I will make it right Coach. I gotchu!" Then proceeded to dominate the Heels. LEGGGGOOOOOOOO!!!
Those two have already developed a special bond. BEATCUSE
The only thing more I could ask for in "STUCK" is for Ekanem to take the opportunity to put a hit on Mitch since he's faking the run. Kinda like how Bud schemes against the Bees.
Did Sam Rogers get away with a hold on that second-to-last gif? It looks like he engages the pads with his hands, then grabs and pulls down and you see the linebacker's head jerk down before he's thrown to the ground.
It's close. He's definitely holding outside the numbers, and then quickly brings his hands inside. As an offensive lineman in HS, I was always taught to grab and get underneath the shoulder pads inside the numbers as it is rarely called.
Sam was just schoolin' him.
GIFs aren't showing up for me. Anyone else with the same issue?
are you running an ad blocker?
i am. turning it off didn't change anything.
hrm, well that's the end of my useful questions.
Have you tried turning it off and back on again?
yup. i've been noticing for the past couple months that some GIFs don't show up. the post will just be empty. most of the time it's fine though.
Are you behind some kind of firewall or filter that blocks stuff from imgur?
