French, quick question: Does a tackle have to report as eligible in order to catch a backwards pass?
I don't think so as long as it is a backwards pass. But, if it is a backwards pass, why throw it to a tackle? I wouldn't call something like that unless I was up three scores with like a minute left against my rival.
Keep in mind, I almost had a stroke when I saw the reverse pass setting up until BB caught the ball. Such an awful call in that spot. Thank goodness it worked.
Oh, I agree that it was an unbelievably dumb play to call there. When the ball was in the air I thought for sure that it was going to be double-pass and started looking for someone downfield for him to throw it to, but then the tackle just caught it and tried to run and I laughed.
I asked about having to report as eligible thinking that was part of the "trick" in the LOLUVa's coaches thinking. If the tackle reports as eligible, it tips the defense off to some degree. Without reporting, no one thinks twice about the tackle drifting into the backfield. Whatever their rationale was, I'm glad they tried it.

After having said "nah" to tackling the TE in the first quarter. Amazing what getting chewed out will do to you.
