I was able to get to the practice open to students tonight. Don't have a a ton of thoughts, but here's what I noticed.
A.J. Bush looks much better than I expected. We had all heard about his progress this spring but I liked what I saw. He seemed to be most accurate and seemed to be going through progressions more than we saw with Evans. Josh Jackson also looked decent, but he seemed to be forcing it more than Bush was. Hendon Hooker was obviously the best running quarterback on the team, and his size is nothing to be ignored. He just wasn't very accurate tonight.
Quarterback rotation looked like this -- Bush and Josh Jackson working with the 1's and Hooker exclusively with the 2's. Click, Willis, and Mummau only got reps during the start of practice.
Jackson forced a couple balls today and got picked off. Bush was also intercepted but that stemmed off a receiver falling down. Adonis Alexander had both picks against Jackson and Bush was intercepted by Terrell Edmunds.
Kalil Pimpleton looked very legit. Was targetted a bunch, made some tough catches, and has great agility in the open field. I'm extremely excited about him.
D.J. Reid looks a decent replacement for Marshawn Williams. He's a bruiser but also was finding the holes in the line during the middle drill.
Running back rotation went like this -- Steven Peoples, Travon McMillian, D.J. Reid, Terius Wheatley. They didn't give any of the backs more than one reps at a time, so I'm not sure whether to read into that order at all.
Deshawn McClease also got some touches during the 11v11 situational drills, and broke a couple long runs. He was in a non-contact jersey, but it really looked like it was a genuine touchdown run.
Caleb Farley looked extremely comfortable as a wide receiver. He's got great size and made several athletic catches over the shoulder. The coaches mentioned today during the press conference that he's getting equal time at DB and WR. I personally would love to see him become a full time wide receiver.
Jordan Jefferson also looked good at wide receiver. Made a couple long touchdown catches, but also had several plays where he made a man miss right after the catch and found space in the open field.
That's what I noticed and can remember right off my head. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask and I'll try to answer.
