Update: It's official, he's committed.
This morning David Prince (@D_Prince8) from Patrick Henry in Roanoke, Virginia Tweeted he plans to verbally commit to Virginia Tech later today. In addition to Virginia Tech, Prince held offers from Virginia, ECU, and Wake Forest. Shane Mettlen of the Culpeper Star-Exponent detailed Prince's recruitment battle between Virginia Tech and Virginia last week.
But the Cavs haven't conceded Southwest Virginia to Virginia Tech. The Cavaliers find themselves in a recruiting battle with the Hokies for Patrick Henry (Roanoke) junior David Prince. Prince is a 6-foot, 175-pound athlete who played quarterback for Patrick Henry last fall, but will likely play wide receiver or defensive back in college.
Rivals.com ranks Prince as 2013's No. 16 prospect in Virginia, and he's racking up Division I scholarship offers after visiting UVa last week.
"He's been offered by UVa, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and East Carolina," Patrick Henry coach Alan Fiddler said. "He went to Virginia Tech two weekends ago and UVa on last Thursday."
The Cavs and Hokies got on Prince early, offering scholarships in the fall as he was in the midst of leading PHHS to a 7-3 record, passing for 1,005 yards and rushing for 725 more.
Why did he pick the Hokies over the Hoos? As he told The Roanoke Times Robert Anderson, "I can get a quality education, be part of a quality football program and be surrounded by great people."
Although Prince plays quarterback in high school, the Hokies are recruiting him as an athlete (WR/DB).
Welcome to HokieNation David!
