A Reminder.

Did you really need a reminder?
Did you forget about that two-point conversion Ernest Wilford dropped to silence Lane in 2001? You could hear a pin drop. How about the 56 the 'Canes put on us the very next year? Maybe you remember Rocky McIntosh taking up residence in our backfield, and Miami throwing up 27 straight to our dome in 2005? Or Sebastian's foot twisting on the HokieBird's neck in '08? Does the word swagger ring a bell?
I can vividly remember the losses. The wins are a blissful blur; as they should be.

Forgive me #
Even though theyve been somewhat dormant the last decade my hatred runs deep for this team. Everytime I meet a diehard fan, psyche no such thing, to any mention of them on TV I cringe. I guess it began a fateful night in '03 when even before I knew about the actual magic of Lane I stood there Freshman drunk swaying in line at a Burger King at 2:30 am reaking of testosterone and beast. Then came the roar of a shirtless hero. First himself, then the rest. MUCK FIAMI! For more effect he ran up to the intercom and screamed it into the loud speaker. If I wasnt pumped before I was ready to headbutt Hokie Stone. The next day I repeated my efforts from the night before and got my first GLORIOUS win in Lane. This is by the way the era of a lottery system that included a slumber party in War Memorial to wait in line for tickets.
Since then I watched our back and forth curb stompings only to graduate and move to the City of Tattoos and Scenesters in Richmond. My first roommates? A Dentist School guy and a Pharm school kid. Cool enough. Until I moved in and say Mr. Dentist in green in orange. I passed by his room and daU was everywhere. I was in the f'ing twilight zone. On top of everything he was a typical douche. I lived there for two football seasons and in that time we were unable to talk or look at one another two weeks before or after the game. F him. F daU. F the Ibis. Its my hate week and im frothing at the mouth for a W.

If you have hate in your heart... you let it out!
I fondly remember... #
My jaw dropping when I heard that we beat Miami in 1995...Third game of the season, we're 0-2, and the game wasn't on TV (at least not here in wahooland). I was pumped, but stunned because I didn't think we could do it. I've never liked da U and their gangster attitude....love to see them get a whoopin!

That compilation was sick. Appreciate that, you actually got me worked up again for the game this weekend bro.
What's all this lying around shit?! #

Little Miami stories #
Two of my worst Hokie football memories are base around Miami. 2000 at Miami when #7 was hurt and we got stomped, bad. At least the weather was nice and we drank with Dan Morgan that night. That was horrible having to hide in Coral Gables. Then the next year with the 2-pointer dropped in the end zone. Ugh.
Of ALL of the teams we play, this is the most hated one (Since west Fu@&%g Virginia isn't in the rota.) This is a true rivalry, hatred included. We took their swagger, without being like them while doing it.
My old roommate got married in the botanical gardens a few summers ago. A friend of his went to Miami, and was actually a really cool guy. There was still the U side of him, but the best by far that I've ever met. After a few nights in Blacksburg and several beers later, we got him on camera yelling "Go Hokies!" Priceless. We Blacksburg'd him.
Awesome highlights #
Let's add to them this year.
Next to some of my NFL-horrid #
Next to some of my NFL-horrid memories as a Jet fan, some of the best and worst football memories have come from this series. My favorite all-time win, aside from the Monday Night Miracle at the Meadowlands was the 16-14 thriller in 2004 when Bryan Randall (who once again showed great class on Saturday) hit Eddie for the winner and the first ACC Championship for Tech. The worst came the next year....ugh still stings. I have always felt this game means even more than UVA because though Miami is down it is still a marquee program and a huge win if we can get it (also an indicator of the season)- plus the attitudes of the Thug U fans: always great to see their bandwagon fans crying at their tailgates in the Burg!
