Drew Harris commits to the Hokies

JC Shurburtt of 247Sports reports that stud running back Drew Harris from Downingtown East high school in Exton, Pennsylvania committed to Virginia Tech.

According to Harris' 2010 highlight film he's 6-1 200 and runs a 4.4 40.

Harris, a 6'1, 200-pound senior-to-be for the Exton-based Cougars, is up to four verbal scholarship offers from Division-1 football programs, according to national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com. Harris holds verbal offers from Illinois, Penn State, Rutgers and South Carolina.

Additionally, the two recruiting services list 19 other D-1 programs as showing interest in the Cougars' feature back, including, but not limited to, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Harris exploded onto the scene as a sophomore, running for more than 2,000 yards and scoring 30 touchdowns as Downingtown East advanced to the District 1 AAAA semifinals. In his junior season, Harris racked up more than 1,900 yards rushing on 227 carries.

Judging his video and being a festidious highlight tape watcher #

The 4.47 on Rivals is legit.

One glaring omission from highlight tape #

While he shows vision, agility, and ability to hit the hole, there is almost nothing in the way of broken tackles. If he can't break tackles in high school he's gonna struggle at the next level. It's possible he just overlooked those plays when putting together the tape, but I was hoping to see a little bit of physicality from a 215lb RB. Either way, we now have 3 RBs in this class, including 2 4-stars (via Rivals). Congrats to him.

According to Rivals, this puts us at 6 4-stars for 2012: JC Coleman (RB), Drew Harris (RB), Jarontay Jones (RB), Deon Clarke (LB), Trey Edmunds (LB), and Donaldven Manning (DB). This is up from 4 4-stars from 2011. Hopefully we have space for a few more gems (Joel Caleb, Stefon Diggs, Korren Kirven).

Shane Beamer recruited him as well as Deon Clarke. He has obviously contributed to the improved recruiting noted above.

I liked his vision on the 2nd #

I liked his vision on the 2nd play, especially since his jump cut was on a zone run that the Hokies use fairly often. I agree that the video doesn't show him breaking tackles. If he can be a power back, alternating with Coleman gives them a thunder and lightening combo that could be very good.
So far, they are putting together an impressive recruiting class. Now, they just need to hook a masher at defensive tackle!

any chance #

That we are becoming RBU?

If we get #

Keith Marshall, our odds certainly get better. Don't blame the kids for wanting to come to a school that can pound the rock consistently.

Also, don't know how we missed this #

but Harris injured his left leg last Friday in a game. Not sure yet if it is serious, but there was talk of an ACL injury involved.

Rumors (so far at least) #

Just spoke with Drew Harris, Sr., who informed me that rumors that his son tore his ACL this weekend are not true.

East's Harris commits to Va. Tech

Downingtown East senior tailback Drew Harris, a 4,000-yard career rusher, has orally committed to play at Virginia Tech.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound Harris chose the Hokies over South Carolina, Miami, Arkansas, and Rutgers, among others. He had 10 written scholarship offers.

"He likes the type of offense (pro-set) they run," his father, Drew Harris, said. "He should be very happy there."

Harris, a three-year starter, will be joined at Virginia Tech by Downingtown East teammate Jack Willenbrock, a 6-foot-3, 260-pound offensive tackle.

Through four games, Harris has carried carried 104 times for 617 yards and nine touchdowns.

Harris suffered a left-leg injury in last Friday's Ches-Mont League National Conference loss to visiting Coatesville. He is expected to sit out this week's game at Avon Grove.

For his career, Harris has rushed 350 times for a school-record 4,977 yards and 36 TDs.
