- I was a sophomore in high school.
- George Bush was still in office
- The Patriots were going to the Super Bowl and actually winning it
- Michael Jackson was dangling babies over balconies
- R. Kelly urinated on minors
....I think you all get the point here. Just a topic to have a few laughs and poke fun at the Wahoos.

**correction, looks like I somehow scrolled into the random 2002 facts when I defintely meant to use stuff from 2003.
The last time UVA beat VT ...
I still lived in Blacksburg.
Hurricane Isabel had roared through the Commonwealth that September
I was in the sixth grade.
Good God you just made me feel old. Congrats.
Don't know about you
but I need to get my cane and beat some of these younguns!
It could be worse
You could be a fan of the team that hasn't beaten us since then. Although I don't know an earthly reason why anyone would be that
8th grade
Still in middle school. Didn't really think about going to college or watch much college sports, but I still knew VT>LOLUVA
I think YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter were all invented after the last time UVa beat Tech.
Exactly
pointed that out somewhere a few weeks ago, the trifecta of today's most popular social sites hadn't been introduced yet
Eminem's "Lose Your Self" was #1 on the billboards...
and damn i was still in high school
The last time UVA beat VT
Miami was nationally relevant.
This topic would be perfect for a Tumblr, but I'm too lazy to create one.
the last time the fighting zimas beat VT
The Hokies were in the big east
Nick Saban had not won a Natl Championship
Alabama was 4-9 (2-6 SEC), with losses to N Illinois & Hawaii
Joey Harrington was on the cover of EA Sports NCAA football
No, it was Carson Palmer.
EA Sports has this really odd habit of releasing their games a year "early", for example Madden 13 was released in summer of 2012, before the 2012 season. NCAA Football 2003 was released in summer of 2002. Carson Palmer was on the cover of NCAA Football 2004, which was released in 2003.
good point
I'd googled NCAA 03...since it was So Damn Long Ago, heck we didn't even have the first of our xbox 360s as my oldest, now a teenager, had just turned 4
well, xbox 360 was still 2+ years from being released
At NVCC
Taking Classes at NOVA (DAME) in Annandale, VA. outside of DC. The fighting commuters. At NOVA where the N stands for Knowledge and the OVA stands for your career.
I like that. I always assumed the O stood for Honor
you know..
I saw this very thing on Imgur.com the other day...
This was the Top Ten at the Box Office (most of which now seem to have a dedicated set of weekend replays on FX or TNT):
1. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
2. Finding Nemo
3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
4. The Matrix Reloaded
5. Bruce Almighty
6. X2: X-Men United
7. Elf
8. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
9. The Matrix Revolutions
10. Cheaper By The Dozen
Zima still had 5 years before it would be discontinued in the U.S.
Thanks the best one...
and most relevant to our in state "rivals"...yes, I called them rivals :)
The last time UVA beat VT
- The Red Sox were still cursed.
- Saddam Hussein was still alive and on the run
- Friends was still on NBC
Meh
- "Lost" was still a year away (I hate that show with such a passion).
- I was a senior in High School
- Allen Iverson's practice rant and Herm Edwards "you play to win the game" speech were still cool to quote.
- iPod's were heavy and monochrome- oh, and new.
- Al Groh was considered a mediocre coach. After he was just plain bad.
- Maryland was a legit ACC football threat.
Oh, it was also the last time we lost the Black Diamond Trophy and Commonwealth Cup in the same year. That event was ceremoniously rectified the next years.
Are those rants still not cool to quote?
"How am I supposed to make my teammates better with practice?"
"PLAYOFFS!?"
Not incessantly like ESPN does and even Herm gets tired of hearing it on NFL 32/Countdown. The Practice one still gets a rise out of me but it's also kind of played when every other Sports Talk Radio has that soundboard (Damn you WFAN NY and ESPN 950 AM).
Broken Lizard was getting huge
Club Dread was being produced after Broken Lizard hit a home run with Super Troopers.
I was in 3rd grade. Good lord.
Al Groh was still considered a great coach and would lead UVA to ACC championship levels.
The last time we lost to UVA:
-I was in 6th grade.
-Songs like "In Da Club" by 50 cent had just come out.
-Wazzup just became a thing.
-Ray Charles was still alive.
-The Raiders were in the super bowl.
-2 Fast 2 Furious was in theatres.
-Lou Holtz was still coaching (USC)
Sorry Sir...ehem...Martine "Wazzup" Paine
Martin Lawrence made Wazzup the thing about a decade earlier on his TV show with WZUP radio. Check it out.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o4zW-k9_n8
Check out about 2:15ish. Wouldn’t think you would remember this seeing how his show was on while you were still getting rug burns on your knees.
No offense, just feeling my age. You get older but you don't feel older, its just young'ns getting older too or else we just wouldn't notice.
Maybe that's the comment...
"The last time UVA beat Tech, Martin Lawrence was still funny"
Martin Lawrence was never funny.
Can I blame Glennon for you not liking Martin Lawrence?
Blame Black Knight and Big Momma's House
Blue Streak, Bad Boys, and Martin were all great. Martin especially.
I really can't believe this is what we are talking about on here haha.
Nothing to Lose
That Movie was none stop funny.
to this day
still one of my favorite movies
Bad Boys
1 and 2 are in my top 5 favorite movies and blue streak is pretty funny.
Or we could blame Glennon for Martin Lawrence not being funny.
Clearly Stinespring was drawing up his routines and O'Cain was feeding him lines.
disagree
yall crazy - his stand up acts weren't the best but his show and movies were definitely funny.
The last time we lost to UVA
-David Boston was considered one of the best receivers in the NFL
-The Gramatica brothers were the best kickers in the league
-Saddam Hussein hadn't been captured
-Michael Vick was on the cover of Madden and was on the verge of returning from his broken leg
Steve Bartman won the Golden Glove award on behalf of the Marlins!
LOL @ da Cubs
NO FUCK THAT! Take this video down, I don't need to relive that horrible day. Am I the only Cubs fan on this entire site? I think a part of me died during that inning. If you all think being a Tech fan is hard sometimes, try rooting for the Cubs. I promise it's worse.
While being a Tech fan can be hard at times, it is almost the exact opposite to being a Cubs fan...
New spin...
When UVA last won two in a row vs. VT:
- Clinton denied having relations with Monica Lewinski
- Windows 98 released by Microsoft
- Google is founded
- Gallon of gas costs $1.15
- U.S. announces first budget surplus in 30 years!
Last time UVA beat VT -Free
Last time UVA beat VT
-Free Willy was still alive
-Sammy Sosa and Raphael Palmeiro had recently topped 500 Career HRs, and it wasn't thought to be a dirty achievement
-The Marlins won the World Series
-Alexander Ovechkin, Sidney Crosby, Phillip Rivers, Eli Manning, Larry Fitzgerald, DeAngelo Hall, Vince Wilfork, Chris Cooley and David Wright hadn't made their professional debuts.
-Lebron had been in the NBA for about a month.
Last time UVA beat VT -
Last time UVA beat VT
- Arnold Schwarzenegger had just been sworn in as Governor of California.
- they were only on the 2nd Fast and the Furious movie
terrible
and there they should've stopped with the F&F franchise..
The last time UVA beat Tech
We hadn't seen Janet Jackson's boob yet.
Last time UVA beat VT I was a junior in high school quoting The Chapelle's Show like my social livelihood depended on it.
Oh, and I still quote the shit out of that show FWIW
"Game....Blouses"
why do we bang on uva so much on this site?
I have so many answers for this question.
But this one is my favorite.
What we do to UVA every year
I can't stop watching this. It's just pure awesomeness.
Can anyone make this with Hokie and cavalier heads on them???
Reminds me of this
taquan mizzell
"You goin ta jail now!"
The last time UVA beat VT...
Sean Glennon hadn't graduated high school yet
Marcus Vick hadn't gone to jail yet
...
I was in kindergarten. I didn't even watch football them. The first season I really started watching Hokie sports was the 2004-05 season and we have never lost to UVA. Guess I'm blessed. To be honest, I hate WVU way more than I hate UVA, but then again, I live in WV.
I. AM. OLD.
Doesn't Hokie football age us all quite a bit, though?
Don't want to hear it, slick
class of 83 here.
My intention was not to make everyone feel old. My mistake. Haha
I was in law school
I now feel like a geezer. Thanks a lot.
That's the mutual feeling from my post. Haha
I last time UVA beat VT...
We Were in the Big East. That was our last year there. 2004 was our first year in the ACC.
and it's been
smooth sailing ever since.
You know...
It's been so long since I've seen us lose to UVA, ...I'm not quite sure how I'll react when that day inevitably comes. It won't be pretty. I can tell you that.
2008 Humility
I was at the VT UVA game in Bburg in 08 and happened to be sitting near what seemed to be a group of freshmen from UVA. At the end of the 3rd quarter they of course played the Hokie Pokey and one of the UVA kids yelled that he hadn't done the Hokie Pokey since the third grade. That's when I yelled back to him that his team hadn't won here since then either. Didn't hear much out of him after that.
So long ago that this.....
....was one of the top songs of the year.
I was 13. My brother was 5. I was in 8th grade. "Get Low" was the song of choice in my 8th grade class.
Also thought I'd share this:

Delegate Joseph Yost of Southwest Virginia posted this gem of TJ on his facebook page in honor of Hokie Day on the Hill in Richmond today. I couldn't help but share. The UVA/VT rivalry is always alive and well in the General Assembly of Virginia.
sounds like a good politician to me!
Oxymoron
"Good politician?" I lol'd.
