A lovely email from Dean Stauffer this afternoon takes a direct shot at UNC just thought id drop this here
Good afternoon CNRE faculty & students
Im sending this as a follow-up from an email earlier this semester to remind everyone that for spring semester, we will adhere strictly to the University deadline for the last day to add classes of January 26, 2015. This will affect adding undergraduate research, independent study, field study and internship credits (courses numbered 2974, 4974; 2994, 4994; 2964, 4964; and 3964). In light of what UNC has been going through with their abuse of special studies over the years, it is particularly important that we follow the specified guidelines.
I will not approve any of these classes after January 26. Also, I often send the cover sheets back because there is no attached description of what is being done for the credit; please be sure to attach a description so the request is complete (with all signatures also) when it gets to our office. As a rule of thumb, you should plan on about 45 hours of work/effort for each credit indicated on the form.
Hopefully this will give you adequate time to plan for the spring semester.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
