DB DuWayne "The Rock" Johnson Commits

Virginia Tech secured a commitment from 2015 defensive back DuWayne Johnson this evening. The Hokies were hosting recruits during their first junior day of the 2015 cycle. He's rated a 3-star prospect by both Rivals.com and 247Sports from Washington, D.C. (H. D. Woodson).

In November DuWayne told Ryan Bartown of 247Sports Virginia Tech was one of his leaders.

"I like Virginia Tech, Georgia and Notre Dame," Johnson told 247Sports recently at his high school. "Virginia Tech has recruited me the hardest. They have a leg up as theyve made me a priority."

What has the Hokies on top for the Washington (D.C.) Woodson H.D. standout?

"I really liked the atmosphere there when I went to their Spring Game during my sophomore year," Johnson said. "(Wide receivers) coach (Aaron) Moorehead came to see me. I talked to Josh Morgan and he told me how it was there. I like their fans and how everything shuts down in their down on game days."

His highlights are available on his Hudl: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/o/3295329/highlights/97447376.

Welcome to HokieNation DuWayne!

Suck it Georgia! (If you know me you'd understand), but it's great to see commits come out of these junior days. 2015 will be Kendall and Brandon's junior year, so getting a DB or 2 in the class is never a bad thing. Welcome aboard DuWayne! The last Roc we had in the secondary did pretty well, so you've got big shoes to fill.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Has good size at 6'1, and I really like his film. He already appears to have good familiarity on a lot of the techniques that the Hokies use, always good to see a young corner being exposed to multiple styles of coverage.

Johnson does a good job at coming off his coverage and going after the ball, as well as switching receivers to cover when his primary assignment runs out of his zone. A real nice pick up.

Welcome to THE #DBU......Mr. Johnson

"Some people think football is a matter of life and death....... I assure you, it's MUCH more serious than that" ...Bill Shankly

This is great news.

All that cornerback depth we have worried about. Well, that is three verbals on corners. #MOOREHEADANDGRAY

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

I like this guys film. Unlike Mook, he appears to be a true corner. Almost all of Mook's video I watched just shows him being the best athlete on the field-by far. Mook's highlight has been returning kickoffs, playing wideout, motioning in the slot and playing some wildcat. Mr Johnson looks like a pure-bred corner. Great addition.

If it ain't orange, it better be maroon...and if it ain't maroon, it better be soon!

I agree, I like his size as well, but it's nice to see he is a good student also with his high GPA! I like the kids we are getting in our Hokie Family more ways than one. I believe they are getting good kids, that are also good students and good character! Guys, if the Administration doesn't give Coach Morehead and Coach Gray big raises, we are going to have to rise up and demand it as they are doing great jobs and will be poached from us soon if they stay at the same level. The kids love these guys!

Size, technique, and a ridiculous list of offers (USC, Auburn, Michigan, Clemson, UGA, etc). This pickup is much bigger than the "stars" implies.

He's going to the school with the best secondary coach in the country and can pick up where big-timers Fuller and Facyson leave off. Welcome to Hokie Nation, DuWayne! Looking forward to you continuing the tradition of a Rock-solid secondary at DBU.
