Bills Bench Tyrod Taylor In Favor of Nathan Peterman

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

I look forward to his 3 interception, 7 sack outing with a terrible offense around him. Tyrod made the most of a shittyyyyyy situation, they'll regret not building around him.

Tyrod didn't give up 294 rushing yards on Sunday. Maybe they should put Peterman in that front 7 somewhere.

The Bills have been building their team to unaccomodate Tyrod for years. The organization is almost as fundamentally flawed as Cleveland.

I wonder if they've got a few Hoo Alums in their Front Office.

Tyrod is no doubt a starter in the NFL and hopefully will find his way to a team that will build around him.

Amazingly his numbers were even worse than you predicted, IN THE FIRST HALF

Fuck the Bills. I wish they would just waive him. Guess they weren't actually trying to build around Tyrod with that Benjamin trade...

If the Jets weren't the Jets, I would wish he ended up there so he could play the Bills twice every season.

I wish he fit in with New England, I think a ring would look good on his finger.

I was thinking more of one where he actually got to play.

Brady's got that spot locked up for a long time, longer than most of us would prefer, probably.

He did start it out by saying "I wish he fit in with New England"

Brady is 40, he doesn't have it locked up that much longer.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

Definitely too long for Tyrod, currently in his prime, to wait around for though

I could actually see him fitting in Miami, where he would get at least 2 chances a year to thump the bills.

Was going to say something about Tannehill being locked in there for a while (even though I think signing him to a longterm deal would be a bad idea), but it looks like there's a team option coming up this offseason, kind of like what Tyrod had last year. Tannehill's contract makes for almost a $20M cap hit next year, so maybe they'll send him on his merry way.

I would like to see Tyrod down there especially if Ford makes it out of training camp next year

Also wouldn't hurt recruiting for one of our guys to be lighting it up on Sundays in South Florida. Next best option would be Jacksonville.

I don't think Benjamin was a great fit for Tyrod anyway. Tyrod should be surrounded with WRs like the Texans have, who are fast enough to get open when a play is extended by the QB. They showed how dangerous an offense with an elusive QB can be before Watson was injured. Benjamin is big and on the slower side and probably better suited to more of a pocket passer.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Like Cam Newton, right?

Chem PhD '16

We nearly went undefeated and went to the Super Bowl the season KB was hurt so his logic might hold. The Cam-KB connection was never as good as the fanbase envisioned. We got absolutely nothing out of the trade, but I don't think him leaving was actually that bad.

Also the Carolina offense has been lighting it UP the past two weeks since Benjamin was traded. Cam tried to force it to Benjamin way too much and Benjamin isn't consistently good enough to be doing that.

Also I don't think Shula knew what to do with two big, relatively slow receivers in KB and Funchess. He's taken the offense back to its roots since the trade and just about every aspect of the offense looks worlds better.

Since 2005, 45+ passing TDs and 10+ Rushing TDs: QB's with Cam Newton, Kirk Cousins, Tyrod Taylor

Saw this coming, and it is incredibly stupid. I watched the whole Bills game, Tyrod had several big plays ruined by penalties and drops, he didn't play well but the bigger issues were their offensive line and good god their run defense was abysmal. As bad as I've seen in many years in the NFL.

100% agreed. After all, this is the same team that fired their OC last year just days after giving up 37 points (while scoring 31) and losing to the Jets in week two

And the Bills fans got their wish

Its a shame that Tyrod restructured his contract to help the team out when everyone knew this kind of screwjob was coming.

"Some days you’re a horse and some days you’re a horse’s ass. I’ve been a horse’s ass for a little while." - Roy Halladay

Like I said in another thread a few weeks ago, Big Ben needs to quit whining and just retire so Tyrod can find his way to Pittsburgh. That's an organization that treats its people well. Tyrod with Brown and Bell would be one tough offense to deal with. Good luck stopping an option between Tyrod and Bell.

As a long time bills fan I can't even say I'm mad anymore, just disappointed. Maybe if Tyrod played better defense he wouldn't be in this mess.

Yeah, this is the second time the defense shit the bed and someone on the offense paid for it. Lose 38-31 to the Jets last year and they fire... The OC.

Give up 47 points and 300 yards on the ground and they... Bench the QB.

At this point I'm more confused than anything else, unless this is all genuinely the next step in their failed plan to tank (until now).

Yeah, this is the second time the defense shit the bed and someone on the offense paid for it. Lose 38-31 to the Jets last year and they fire... The OC.

That move was also widely panned when it happened. Consensus seemed to be that Ryan made the call because he had to do somethinganything to keep his job.

Chem PhD '16

The worst part is that this was seemingly the most competent front office Buffalo has had in a while. Relatively new ownership, new GM, new coaching staff, same strange decision making. If Peterman lights up the chargers this week I will shut up, but this seems a little desperate for a team that is technically still in the playoff hunt.

Ryan got a late night phone call from the Peguls.

Year 3 is coming up!

McDermott, but yeah this has to have been a front office/ownership move and not a coaching move.

Chem PhD '16

Thanks big brain fart there!

Year 3 is coming up!

Well there goes my only reason to watch the NFL Fuck the Bills

I feed off of nightmares

It's a tough biz. NFL stands for "Not For Long". If Tyrod has a niche, he'll probably find it, but market forces drive the whole thing, with the possible exception of Colin K. I love him (Tyrod), have for many years, but you're only worth what folks will give you, and you're only playing if someone wants to play you. I'm rooting for Tyrod, but you could see this coming.
Edit for clarity: The "him" I love is Tyrod, not Colin. I don't really care one way or another about Mr. K.

Reel men fish on Wednesdays

As a person who doesn't keep up with anything the Bills do personnel-wise and only worries about what they do on Sundays because of Tyrod, it really seems like the Bills have been our to get him since he became their starter. They shut him down at the end of the season last year and probably really helped EJ Manuel was good. Then they couldn't bench him when they started out 5-2 this season, but the second they started losing games and Peterman went 7/10 against a backup defense in prevent mode, they jumped right on it.

Tyrod deserves way better than that. It would be nice to see him in a Redskins uniforms, but, like I said, he deserves better than what he has gotten in Buffalo. I hope the Bills lose out, realize Tyrod is their quarterback for the future, and then he dumps them leaving them with Peterman.

Marshall University student.
Virginia Tech fanatic.

And in his first start, he was out wide in a wildcat so that a certain clause in his contract wouldn't come into effect (I don't remember exactly what it was, but the analysts made a big deal of it).

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Interesting. I have found some references to this but no mention as to why. They also benched him for the last game of 2016 to avoid guaranteed money in case of an injury immediately after Rex Ryan was fired. I don't think he's had a fair shot at success in Buffalo and hope he lands somewhere with even modest talent across the offense.

I'm sure there's something about how many games he has to start AT QUARTERBACK that they got around by starting him one game our wide.

In all walks of life, business is important, but you can only screw so many people in the name of saving a buck before you find no one will work with you.

I'm sure there's something about how many games he has to start AT QUARTERBACK that they got around by starting him one game our wide.

That's it...he was to get a bonus if he started 15 games at QB. The first game didn't count because he "officially" started at WR, then when they sat him in the last game, they were off the hook for the bonus.

And that's the kind of crap that makes the Bill's a terrible organization. Maybe if they took the time they use now figuring out how to screw their employees, and instead used it to run a football program they'd be in a better situation.

Oh pleaseeeeeee let him leave Buffalo and come to Pittsburgh. I would buy that jersey in a heartbeat.

Damn, sucks for Tyrod. I kinda get it from teh Bills perspective. Tyrod is never gonna really take them far, and the offense has been pretty bad, yes defense has been abysmal too, but offense doesn't seem to be very effective. Sometimes you gotta try something else out. Hope Tyrod just improves from this experience.

I could understand it in a situation where they had a young QB they planned to bring along slowly but he had too much raw talent to keep him off the field. But that's not even close to the situation. Nathan Peterman isn't leading them to the playoffs.

Joffrey, Cersei, Ilyn Payne, the Hound, Jeff Jagodzinski, Paul Johnson, Pat Narduzzi.

Exactly. Tyrod might not be the next Steve Young, but he's at the top end of serviceable, game managing QBs. A lot of teams would love to have that talent right now. Even if you think the best option is to get him out of town, wouldn't it make more sense to keep him starting, maybe they get a wild card spot, and then you can market that in a trade?

Tyrod is never gonna really take them far

Yeah, but through nine games he has them in line for a wild card slot. That's pretty far for the Bills franchise. It's crazy that they would choose now to make the change.

League average at QB can get you to or win you a super bowl. See broncos, ravens, bears, etc. Tyrod is about league average

Chem PhD '16

I partially agree. Tyrod was not going to take them far in this offense. And that is my issue. Tyrod has a unique skill set and the coaching staff has done very little to adapt the offense to his style of play. The Bills offensive shortcomings are partially due to some limitations in Taylor's game but are largely due to the OC forcing Tyrod to take snaps under center and be a pocket passer, that isn't how he thrives. I don't care if TT was "their guy" or not, a good coach finds ways to be successful with the team he has and they have failed Tyrod and the team in that regard from my uneducated perspective.

Peterman? hope you get sacked all day

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

The craziest thing is Peterman is going to most likely play them out of the playoff hunt that they are in right now.

This is like a lose adaptation of Major League. They want to lose and are upset at the succcess they've found.

Well I was planning to drop the Chargers defense this week, but one more week with them is looking good.

Come to Blacksburg and see what the Hokie Pokie is really all about

I see why, Tyrod is too short. He is not able to throw timing routes because he has trouble seeing over his line, let alone defenders arms.

This forces him to wait too long and have to scramble.

The offense really needs to be able to operate as intended and not rely on Tyrod improvisation every pass attempt.

I think Tyrod can be an NFL QB, but has to be in a system that is designed around him. Most teams won't ever do this because running QBs are big time injury risks.

Too bad, cause I always liked watching him play.

"Tyrod is too short" is probably oversimplifying it. He's taller than Drew Brees.

Chem PhD '16

And at least a few inches taller than Russell Wilson.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

He can throw timing routes, his receivers get roughly zero separation. He has arguably the worst receiving corps in the league and they didn't make it any better adding overweight KB, who is perhaps the worst receiver in the NFL at creating separation.

Maybe it is trusting his eyes, and not that he can't see.

I still think he can't view the whole field.
He seems to hunt his receivers down with his eyes and throw late.

I'd like to see him in a Kansas city type offense which is all the rage.

Make the pocket move, a few college style plays and McCoy running wild would be deadly.

I also think there are plenty of times that receivers are running open and he just checks down for the better % pass.

Seems legit, they are not going anywhere until Brady and Belicheck retire in that division and they don't want to risk him getting injured because then they will owe him $$$ and they obviously plan to cut him as soon as the season is over

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

The biggest dig at Tyrod is all the complaining about the throws he didn't attempt. Which... if you look at his QBR... there might be a reason for that.

Its funny, they gut the team of any and all playmakers offensively outside of Shady, and then they eviscerate their QB because he's not willing to take chances down the field. Its comical how obvious this whole thing was and how inevitable it played out. They got Tyrod to restructure his deal to not pay him what he was owed, and then they set him up to fail so they could cut him while paying less. Those cheap ass bastards really screwed him over, and he should be firing his agent for allowing it to happen.

Tyrod wouldn't throw 5 INT's left handed...THE BILLS ORGANIZATION SUCKS!!!!!!!

Huh, maybe QB isn't their problem?

Yeah, but since Peterman started, that means Tyrod is the backup, which means he's the best QB, right? Isn't that how it works, the backup is always the best?

so Clay let Tyrod down twice there, once with the OPI and then wth the drop.

OK Bills how did that work out?

It's a lack of talent around him from OL, receivers, coaching and poor ownership with no ability as to how to build a team! Tyrod is their scapegoat and well, you see how well that worked out for them today! I hope he can move to a team that will surround him with the playmakers and protection to be successful! Always amused when I listen to someone like Clay Travis in the morning who calls out Taylor and says he will never be a playoff QB when he doesn't play on a playoff caliber team. Tom Brady wins because he plays for owners and a coach who know how to draft, coach, and put players in a position to win and be successful! Would love to see Brady or Rogers play behind Buffaloes OL with no playmakers at receiver! No one ever wants to talk about that though yet Clay Travis claims he knows what he is talking about! Really!!!!

Life's short, If you dont do it, somebody else will.

Tyrod got more fantasy points than the QB I started: Derek Carr.

And Alex Smith.

If i was tyrod i would have refused to put my helmet on and go in. Told them all to go fuck themselves. Tyrod is a better man than i though, and a true professional.

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

i thought the same thing...i would've said "nah, coach, i'm good relaxing right over here on the bench" with a nice, big smirk on my face. and then called my agent and told him to re-negotiate my contract for the rest of the season.

but i figured if they put tyrod back in, he would give 110%, as always, which is why his teammates love him. they know how bad the organization has treated him, and they see his dedication despite that.

it would be easy for mcdermott to lose the team at this point...if he doesn't, he can thank tyrod.

That's the thing about Tyrod and integrity. He doesn't change who he is because of who they are. Going in and giving it a shot is what raises his value in the eyes of other teams and makes Jim Kelly sound ridiculous when he tried to claim Tyrod is not a "franchise quarterback". The other thing that makes Kelly sound ridiculous is his criticism of Tyrod's passing when Tyrod has a 91.4 rating vs. his 84.4 rating. Kelly has a 3.7% INT ratio compared to Tyrod's 1.5% INT ratio. Anyway. Maybe McDermott has no clue about what it takes to play QB (I mean he doesn't. He's never played or coached offense) or maybe he just wanted the fans to pipe down about Petermen because there was a lot of pressure from the fans to start him. Regardless, Tyrod should be on the way out and move onto a place that's serious. From what I can tell Buffalo is not a serious team.

I dunno, Peterman's passing stats don't look all that bad at first glance... 11 catches on 14 attempts - that's a Brady-esque 78% - for a total of 155 yards & 1 TD.

Of course most of those yards and the TD were thrown to Chargers players, but hey he's out there slinging it around making plays!

That could go viral

Whether the move to Peterman is the right one remains to be seen

At least in the NFL, only 12 teams make the playoffs every year, for about 1/3 of the league.

Sitting here as a Carolina Hurricanes fan, having missed out of the NHL playoffs in each of the last 8 years in a league where more than half make the playoffs. Even with a Cup win, another trip to the Finals, and another trip to the ECF, they have already missed the playoffs 8 straight years in the 18 years they've played in Raleigh. *sigh*

I love how the offensive woes are Taylor's fault but when Peterman sucks, it's the OL and receivers.

I will admit that one of the receivers was hit in the hands

Two of Tyrod's three interceptions on the year were due to hitting the tight end right in the hands and Clay being unable to secure the ball. But you won't see Bills fans give Tyrod any slack for that...when it happens to the Great White Hope, however, it's another story.

It's like UNC fans complaining about the rain last year. Both teams played under the same conditions just like both QB's played with the same support.

But please, tell me again why the best QB they've had in 20 years is the problem.

The unfortunate side-effect of having Tyrod as your QB, he masks a lot of flaws that the offense may have. He did it here and he's doing it in Buffalo. They won't realize what they have, until he's gone.

Yes - we had three ACC championships with Tyrod between 2007 and 2010, and none since, sort of proving Tyrod's excellence.

"But you need to watch the Bills games. Its the passes he doesn't attempt because he is the king of the check down."

That quote is all over reddit, but I think these stats completely prove that he is throwing it farther down the field than any other QB they have had.

Two of my best friends are Bills fans. They don't agree at all with the decision to bench Tyrod but they do seem to get pissed that he doesn't throw the ball into tight windows. I think its less about throwing the ball downfield than taking chances on 3rd and medium/long, which would be a non issue if their defense didn't turn into swiss cheese 3 weeks into the season.

But what is the point of chucking it for a sure INT. Even if Tyrod makes the throw, who for the Bills is going to make the tough catch? Smart money says flip the field with a punt. If the Bills are sitting 3rd and long from the other teams 45 then sure the arm punt is about the same.

Smart money

Herein lies the problem, you've now lost a solid percentage of the loudest Bills fans.

Next Gen Stats tracks the actual distance of thrown balls (complete or not). Tyrod is in the middle of the pack when it comes to throwing downfield...ahead of guys like Rodgers, Brees, Stafford, Carr, Prescott, etc. Apparently Buffalo fans wouldn't want those guys either.

But sort it by "aggressiveness" and he is 4th to last, which apparently all the Bills fans care about. When you look at his numbers he is basically on the same track as Jared Goff who I am sure the Bills fans would love to have, but Goff is last in the nextgenstats "Aggressiveness" rating.

Isn't that even better though? Basically he throws it down field about as much as anyone else, yet he rarely throws it to a receiver that has a defender within 1 yard of the target (definition of Agg%), meaning the targets are open. That sounds like exactly what I would want my QB to do.

The best part about this whole thing is that the front office literally guts them of talent before the season to the point where the only reliable guys left are McCoy and Clay, causing everyone to whine about how they're purposely tanking for the draft. But then they open the season on a tear on the shoulders of Tyrod, only to see the ire come from the same fans who were expecting the tank start to lambast him for not trying to force throws to WRs they openly admitted they didn't trust before the season. Doesn't matter his passer rating has him in the top half of the league, and it doesn't matter he's leading them to wins with a garbage set of receivers and a bad defense, he can't be a long term benefit because of all those throws he doesn't try.

The only guys in the NFL who legitimately take chances and make it work are the legitimate elites of the game, of which there are a painful few. The only ones I can think of right now of guys who can step up and just make the play with his arm are Brady, Brees, Rodgers, Wilson, and Matt Ryan, with Wentz appearing to be destined to join this pack sooner rather than later. Other than that, make due with what you got, it can still be good enough to win it all.

Fuck Matty Ryan.

FMR doesn't get a cute nickname. It's Fuck Matt Ryan, nothing more, nothing less.

that is a shissen load of QBs for 21 years!

Year 3 is coming up!

Most Bills fans have no idea that Tyrod was seasoned in program with a bad OC and a OL made of swiss cheese. Ironically he's the QB they need, but not the QB they deserve.

I've concluded that I kinda feel bad for Peterman, he was put into a bad situation. The Bills FO, coaching staff, and the fans who wanted Tyrod benched on the other hand, I'm still laughing at. Karma's a bitch.

You could almost imagine Tyrod as Lawrence, just trying his best to console him after his day from hell

Peterman was also put into a bad situation when he transferred to Pitt and played for Pat Narduzzi... but he chose to do that one...

When will Tyrod get some respect for putting a bad team in playoff contention? Instead of benching Tyrod and getting Peterman killed , the Bills should try to fix the defense, O-line, and get some weapons at skill positions. Do that and they will end the play-off drought.

You know, you're correct. But that would involve them wanting to be successful. They're not ready for that mentality yet.

The "you" must be someone in the Chargers organization.

Musky's sig line has never been more appropriate.

Bills fans literally think Josh Rosen will instantly make them a playoff team

I've spent some time in recent weeks on the buffalo bills subreddit, I've never seen a more delusional fan base.

any fans who know football and have a modicum of principle have stopped following the team...leaving stark raving mad lunatics left

Tyrod seems to be playing fairly well today.

Yeah, he only gave up 10 points this week

He needs to play better or they'll start Peterman over him again at defense.

Recruit Prosim

OT for the thread, but doesn't deserve it's own:

The Giants benched Eli for........Geno Smith????
Says they'll also play their rookie, Davis Webb, some before the end of the season. I understand benching Eli for Webb, but Geno? This sounds like McAdoo is actively trying to get fired

Tyrod was carted off today. Expect the Bills to finish 7-9 at best.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I really really hope its not serious but it sounds like it is. This is almost worst case scenario for Tyrod in that he's now going to be entering what looks to be stacked QB market in the offseason coming off a bad injury. The only thing that keeps it from being "worst case" is he was at least playing respectably well this year before Buffalo threw him under the bus. You can win with Tyrod if you've got an organization that believes in him, but if that injury is bad and given the market, I'm now worried he might not be able to get a starting gig next year.

Suspend Gronkowchawitz!

Year 3 is coming up!

Tmobile only has a patella contusion extrusion something and is day to day.

Year 3 is coming up!

Dirty Hit

SOB only got 1 game! His QB got 4 for not understanding PSI!

Year 3 is coming up!

Good lord, he only got 1 game for that?
In NCAA that would be targeting and on top of it he's lying on the ground and out of bounds and the previous player had already touched him to make sure he's down. Gronk outweighs the guy by what, 50-60 pds?

Gronk needs more than that.
