TV Teddy denied NCAA Tournament duties....if only the ACC could get it right

Ted Valentine will not officiate in NCAA Tournament

"This is not right, it's just not fair," Valentine told ESPN. "It hit me like a ton of bricks. I'm being punished unjustly."

We can bash the NCAA for oh so many things but this time they got something right that the ACC has failed to manage for years. TV Teddy Valentine will not be allowed to officiate in the NCAA tournament. Indications are that it is based on his run in with Joel Berry where he turned his back on the player during a game earlier this season.

I did a little dance when I saw the news. I figured others would enjoy as well.

"What kind of person would throw away a perfectly good dog?"

Now only if the ACC would get the message like they did with Karl Hess

That being said

Not too familiar with his other games, but after the ND game I am completely on the Tuck Feddy Valentine train. Most Bush League refereeing I've seen in my life, and I was at the Michigan Sugar Bowl game.

Good. He and Matt Farrell can stay home and snuggle together!

We put the K in Kwality

What about that other ref who called the game altering foul on JRob in the Miami game? He may be less flamboyant but equally bad.

Interestingly, former ACC head of officiating John Clougherty stopped using Ted Valentine.

He and Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer have a podcast called 'The Whistleblowers' that focuses on officiating at the collegiate level. It's an interesting podcast that takes you behind the curtain a bit, and they discussed the TV Teddy-Joel Berry incident when it happened. I believe this is the podcast when he discussed when he stopped using Ted. I'd highly recommend it, and it only pops up around once a month so it's not too time-consuming to follow.

He made the fatal mistake of committing an affront against the wrong team. Everyone knows the NCAA doesn't like people messing with UNC...

I thought it was Duke. He probably wouldn't huddle with coach k during the Duke/UNC game.

Good. This gives him more free time to indulge his unconventional, rhino-centric proclivities.

Ted Valentine walks onto the court pregrame thinks "man look at all these people that came to watch me ref"

So you are saying there is a chance Blackshear can make it to the first TV timeout without picking up his 4th foul? Awesome!

Also, hopefully fewer "no call" muggings of Hokie players.

I just realized this wouldn't even be a story if TVT hadn't gone to the media whining about how it isn't fair he's not invited to work the NCAA tournament. Like, that's the story, he was told, then threw a fit to anyone who would listen.

The red flags that this should raise in Greensboro are numerous. Kinda just shows how he thinks he is the game when he refs and how he himself is this major integral piece of the game.

I agree with you here. I mean, look at this freaking quote from the story (emphasis mine):

"I screwed up," Valentine told ESPN about the January incident. "But I went back a week later and apologized, and he and I were joking and kidding. It was no big deal. I even pulled him out of a situation where he could have gotten a technical foul."

Oh, good for you Teddy, be a nice guy to Joel Berry now. He's still making it about himself, even in his story about how he screwed up and apologized. He just couldn't help himself.

Its ridiculous, too.

So.... because of the crap treatment he gave Berry against FSU, he goes out of his way to treat him with kid gloves their next game, potentially boning the team UNC is playing because Teddy has to make sure that Teddy looks like a kind and compassionate guy for not purposely targeting Berry.

One error has now compounded to 2 or 3 that he's admitting to because Teddy has to keep Teddy's image clean in Teddy's eyes.

Why is this guy still reffing games in the collegiate level, let alone ACC play?

Make up calls have been a part of the game forever. TVT just takes them to a new level.

Yeah, but did he make the NIT?

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Need to keep him away from Notre Dame games.

And does that mean he is the 69th best official in the country.
