GIFTORY: Frame-by-Frame Highlight Reel of Virginia Tech's 23-10 Win Over Boston College

Coleman Fox is what New England college football fans call that rookie who just got called up from Pawtucket.

I was at the game, didnt get to the see the impact players and discussion, but I'll say I am damn surprised to see Coleman Fox up there. What did the announcers say in regards to him, was there mention of Travon or People's injury?

It feels like he has seen most of his action in garbage time, even if he has been our leading rusher in multiple contests.

I'm guessing they didn't do any in depth review and just looked at his touches, yards per carry, total yardage etc.

E$PN is a bunch of lazy idiots

Ahh, yes of course. For silly some reason, I thought there may have been a legitimate reason he was noted.

It was all because Ahmad Brooks (sp?) said he thought Coleman Fox had performed the best of all our backs over the past few weeks. He also said that he thought Josh Jackson was the best dual threat QB in the ACC outside of Lamar Jackson. I guess that comment is based purely off of the WVU game. Bryant is by far the best dual threat QB in ACC outside of Lamar Jackson. You can argue that JJ might be a better passer, but Bryant is far and away the better runner.

I like Brooks overall, he just makes some very questionable comments. At the end of the day I guess he had to try and bring some sort of exciting story-line to the game; the crowd sure wasn't going to bring any excitement through the tube.

It was the worst announcing crew I've heard on a Tech game in a while, and we've had 2 ESPN3 games and a CBS Sports Network game.

Somewhere in the 4th, with about five minutes left, they were going off on one of our guys for running out of bounds, saying that he was going to hear it from the coaches for stopping the clock. And then they realized that the clock was still moving. I still don't think they've figured out that running out of bounds doesn't stop the clock until the last 2 minutes.

It wasn't Hank Stram level bad, but it was definitely not good.

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

It is unbelievable how people, who are paid to watch games, don't know the rules. The 2:00/clock stops thing kills me, and it is on almost every broadcast. Mike Tirico blew it in the WVU/VT game when JJ slid to stay in bounds and he praised him, instead of getting the few extra yards (and what if Slye was 5 yards closer on that final kick?).

Furthermore, face guarding is COMPLETELY legal, you just can't prevent the WR from coming back to the ball, or interfere with his arms/body as he goes for a catch. You hear them botch this all of the time.

High school announcers, of course, are way worse. I hear things like that was an uncatchable ball or the QB was out of the pocket - which are NOT factors in high school football. The QB can NEVER just throw it away, and no ball is ever "uncatchable" - if you interfere, it is a DPI.

The Graham High announcers went bananas over a hold in one of their games a few weeks ago - it made it 1st and 25. They couldn't figure it out, and were convinced the refs were either unable to count, cheating Graham, or just didn't know the rules.

Sorry fellas - you are the idiots - in high school all holding calls are from the spot of the foul, including behind the LOS.

/end rant.

My goodness, the sheer number of high school coaches (not to even get started on the parents/fans) that don't know the rules of high school football is just staggering.

The numbers absolutely suggest JJ is better than Bryant. I understand that numbers against Delaware and ODU are not the same as numbers vs. Aurburn and Louisville. Brooks can't watch every game by every team. Assuming he's going off of numbers what do those look like?

For the Season (and yes I know Bryant went out with an injury in 3rd Quarter)...

Kelly Bryant (Jr) 137.1 Rating
    Passing: 1259 YDS, 4 TD 4 INT, 7.9 AVG
    Rushing 401 YDS, 97 Att, 4.1 AVG, 7 TD, 47 LNG

Josh Jackson (R-Fr) 158.2 Rating
    Passing: 1700 YDS, 13 TD 4 INT, 8.9 AVG
    Rushing 154 YDS, 55 Att, 2.8 AVG, 1TD 46 LNG

JJ's overall rating is higher. Rushing yards are not the sole determinant of being a dual threat. If a team fails account for Jackson at all they will pay. Dual threat QB's at the very least have to take a defender out of the game to account for them. JJ does that. No team (other than Clemson) has left him "unspied". That being said Clemson's defense was so good they pretty much just ignored our offense. Like all of it. J/K but it sure seemed that way.

Were the announcers good? No but they weren't the worst. I was watching a another game I can't recall were they were so bad I almost had to stop watching.

Do you have link to the replay of Bryant's 417 yard rush? That would be something to see.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Still looking. I'll post it when I find it though it might be a while... :-D

Great work in pulling the stats - really does make the case for Jackson/Fuente/VT.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Thanks! I've been watching very closely. The end of the Beamer era has caused me to apply a lot of scrutiny to the team with respect to offense. Sort of the once bitten twice shy approach if you will. After majoring in Engineering at VT I also learned to appreciate the value of numbers in terms of balancing my subjectivity with objectivity. In general I do not believe all of our woes come down to pure talent and I don't think Fuente does either. We are not an FCS team playing FBS teams week in and week out. Sometimes the numbers can be surprising. Would you believe me if I told you we generated more offense vs. Clemson than they did vs us? Probably not but we did. VT had 17 first downs and 342 yards to Clemson's 14 first downs and 332 yards. Crazy, right?

October seems a little early to me, but I guess I'll trust it if Buzz will take him...

At least they weren't dancing during a timeout during an inexplicable loss...times are better.

Was hoping the Stroman ref high five would have made it in. Adding him to the Fuller legendary high five.

I must have missed Stroman doing this. Video?

This is when it happened in the game. No idea how to get it on video and to here.
2:41 in the 3rd qt Stroman gets a high five from the ref after the pass breakup when walking back to get the punt return on.

That's why he gets to wear the 25 every other week, ladies and gentlemen.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

The ref reciprocated ! Kyle's ref shied away. More 25 magic

I saw it happen on TV live and watched it a dozen times to make sure I saw it right.

Completely missed that stiff arm when watching the game. That is worth seeing more than once.

Letting Tim Settle into the backfield untouched should be a benchable offense. That's a very easy way to get a QB or RB legitimately killed.

Other than the lack of fumble and helmet flying off, this play looks almost identical to the Clowney tackle that was the SC top play for a couple months. What is impressive is this was a 320lb behemoth that moved like a 1st rounder DE.

Didn't know Quin Blanding plays for BC now?

Another white bronco? The first one didn't go too far.

I wish that last Instagram video was not zoomed in because the coach's face next to Addazio was hilarious. It was the most stoned face I have ever seen. He looks like he should have been drooling.

This! I saw a sceenshot in the 3rd quarter where I actually thought that my TV froze until I saw a player walking behind Addazio and the assistant coach. Their faces looked like a paused VHS tape, all contorted and frozen and derpy. I was hoping that would make giftory, I need to find that 5 seconds of gold.

The Dude Abides

My favorite part of being @ BC on Saturday was taking full notice of how few fans recognized Tom O'Brien at the half-time ceremony.

Truly a pathetic fanbase. Only myself, a VT grad and a handful of old timer BC fans in my section even noticed who he was. O'Brien had BC at heights they could only wish to be at now. With the local knowledge, you'd think Matt Ryan coached those BC teams..

So there were actually fans there? Because they were hard to see on TV.

The ones in the Taco Bell Student Section looked like they had been paid to be there.

I believe they were given free taco's for sitting in that section.

I could not figure out why Teller kept hanging out near the students. This makes sense now.
