Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletic Training Mike Goforth, "Michael Via has a knee sprain. At this point, Michael is going to attempt to try and play through the injury. We're hard at work on Via's knee, and if things go well this week, there's a chance he'll play against ECU. Via has played through injuries before. This isn't his first knee injury. He knows what's going on. We're on top of it."

The rumor was Via had a torn ACL and would miss the entire season. We were the first to report he had an ACL injury and we could never confirm the severity and/or specifics unlike other outlets.
This is great news for both Via, who has already undergone reconstructive knee surgery, and the Hokies who need his experience and talent to fill out the depth at center and right tackle.

The Atlantic Coast Conference placed two teams (Florida State and No. 13 Virginia Tech), as did the Mountain West Conference (Boise State and No. 14 TCU)
The media have us right where the coaches did. There's not a single team ranked in the Preseason AP Poll on the Hokies schedule. I wonder when the last time that's happened?

1 - Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech - Entering his 25th year with the Hokies, Beamer might be the best coach of this era to not win a national championship. His teams are always in the hunt, are incredibly consistent, sound is almost everything they do, and the program is as solid as any in the nation.
Glossing right over Jones' ranking of Beamer as the best coach in the ACC, look it's the orange helmets, and we're we were practicing in them. Could they be worn with our orange pants? Will they be worn against UNC, which according to my season tickets is this year's Orange Effect? Draw your own conclusions. False Alarm. Sorry about that, as eHOKIEt pointed out, it's an old picture from an Orange Bowl practice.
