Devestating news. Hudson has all kinds of potential in the zone scheme. I thought he should have started at right guard. Nester is very gifted, but struggled a bit with lateral movement. However, he has all kinds of potential. Both guys got most of their snaps at right guard this season, so there is suddenly a big hole.
I feel a little sick to my stomach to see this right after a pleasant basketball win.

I didn't think anything of it because it was random and I hadn't seen anything like that anywhere else. But now that the news of the linemen actually came to be...*gulp*

Today is honestly the saddest I've ever been as a Tech fan, and I saw both the Boise and JMU games in person in the span of six days.

I remember at half saying we would lose if they didn't get on the ball. I prefer to think of it as Boise beat us twice that year.

Nester is a big time OL, and one of the better players on the line. He's bouncing. That is why we have sucked for 3 years. Talent leaves at an unreal rate. And the head coach doesn't bring in enough to supplement or offset it. That's how wake and liberty beat you.
Guess you didn't get the memo. We're a developmental program. We don't want or need big-time 4 star players. We want three star guys with no other P5 offers that take 5 years to develop. Them or transfers and JUCOs that will come in and play for only one season.

this is different than normal. this isn't kearney, ellis, webb, or proctor, etc... they are both big contributors, and will be big contributors wherever they go. this is a very bad sign.
Correct. Both of these guys have started many games in both of their first two seasons, and when they weren't starting they were contributing to the rotation. They just don't want to be here.
I really hope this doesn't have anything to do with Brock Hoffman's parents coming after Hudson and his parents on twitter. I don't know if that was discussed on TKP, but truly some embarrassing stuff.
I love a true competitor on the field but you have to know when to turn it off and its starting to look like hoffman might not realize this. If tweets from parents caused this that is a big pile of shit that shouldnt be allowed to happen.

I think Fu stated last year that if you go to the portal the player wouldn't be coming back because Fu and player would have a conversation and reach understanding before player made that decision.

Not sure that's a great analogy. You can put your resume out there and just see what comes your way, without intending to leave your current job. Entering the portal means you are intending to leave, even if you are talked out of it. But I'd assume most people who enter the portal and actually leave.
I thought you can't even get contacted by other coaches if you're not in the portal? That's seems like even if you wanted to test the waters and see what your options were, you'd have to put your name in, no matter how serious your desire to leave was.
That's my understanding as well. I don't think there's a good analogy to our jobs to the portal for the athletes.
Better analogy is being in a committed relationship and downloading Tinder to see what's out there.

Genuinely such a huge blow to one of the only units that were reliable on this team. These were the staff's two biggest recruiting victories, beating out legit competition for each. They were playing plenty, and they simply did not want to be here anymore. Tough to swallow.

I really wish I knew what exactly happened here where two important contributors both felt the need to enter the portal at the same time before a season where they might both be starting.
Leaving arguably one of the best OL coaches in America as well. Teller is one of the top OGs in the NFL per PFF, Darrisaw went from a no star to a presumed top 10 draft pick and we have several future NFL lineman in the OL room this past year.
Vice is getting poached or there's internal drama because it doesn't make sense.
I remember Teller, one of the top guards in the NFL, being benched more than once by Vice. No idea if it has any connection. But Vice can be a great recruiter, great coach, and still may rub some players wrong. Or, I could have this completely wrong.
Teller was like Hoffman where he occasionally did dumb shit but the overall product was a net positive.
I don't think it was Vice that benched Teller. He wound up in Fuente's doghouse and Fuente tried to spin that as Colt Pettit outperforming him.
Still, you may be right that Vice rubbed Nester or Hudson the wrong way.
IIRC teller came out and said that he wasnt working as hard as he could bc of his talent and the benching got him motivated

Just a wake up call for Teller, because at the time he lacked discipline on and off the field - at times. Everyone knew he just needed to be more consistent to maximize his potential. Arguably, this was a great move to very briefly bench him and keep him pushing as he answered the bell and then some - ex. When he would get frustrated in games and get unnecessary penalties erasing his other great plays (ex TN game)
In regards to Nester there is definitely internal drama with V2 and some of the players. From what I have heard it's hard to tell if it's the coaches are the kids who are the real problem.
This definitely reeks of some behind the scenes drama.

He likely would have gone to WVU from the start had Dana Holgorsen not been the coach during the latter years of his high school career. Neal Brown is prioritizing WV, especially the Huntington area, because a decent amount of OL talent comes out of the area. When I saw they took his best friend Graeson Malashevich as a PWO (we also offered a PWO spot I believe) I got worried. Then when they landed Wyatt Millum, I was really worried. Combine that with the disastrous season we had, Nester not getting along with Vice, and a free waiver for anyone who decides to transfer this offseason and here we are.
Do we know this to be true ? I haven't been following that closely and was wondering why he was looking in the first place. Same deal with Hudson?
Just rumors, but a lot of people have been saying it. Not sure what the deal is with Hudson. I think Hudson was unhappy with his playing time, hence the Hoffman beef.
