I may have, way back in the day. Don't any more. Broke a club in high school. Had to go 2 weeks without it...that sucked. Can get rid of them on ebay and at least put it in a dark box for a slow journey to punish the club!

Picture reminds me of playing golf with an old VT buddy. Had free corporate balls so he would knock them in the woods, water etc for fun (Favorite quote as he wasted them "obviously I used up all the good shots in that ball"). One day a guy in my foursome grabbed the box in his cart on the first hole and said he would give Tom one every time he seriously lost a ball. So Tom plays the round only losing three balls. Guy hands him the box on the eighteenth green and says Tom, so proud of you playing this seriously. Tom immediately throws the box with eight balls in it in the lake followed by the last one he played with.

I made an eagle at Pohick Bay yesterday (#6). It's a shorter Par 5, it played about 460 yards and is a dog leg left. A hammered a pure drive, then a 3-hybrid to within about 6-8 feet. (Honestly I can't even remember because nerves.)
Also, I got my clubs regripped and they feel great. I've only been putting that off for about 10-or-so years.

Regripping your clubs is one of the most underrated things to do. Granted I play 4-6 times a week, but I regrip my clubs at least once a year. Proper sizing is also very important.

Congrats. I was playing Auburn Hills a while back and on the 480 yd par 5 18th, did similar. 2nd shot was a 5 wood, put it within 6 ft. Stoked! Auburn Hills geeens are small with lots of undulations. I missed the eagle putt, but got a birdie.
Regripping. It was just said, most underrated thing to do, had my irons and gap wedges done and had grip diameter increased, has helped a ton.
Waiting on doing it to my driver, woods, n hybrids as i think i want to redo shafts at same time. I need to get my swing evaluated for that. Hoping to do that soon and finish my clubs.
Golf is therapeutic for me. Love it, wish i had more time. Love these threads!

Last time I played Auburn Hills was 6-7 years ago. Two things I remember were the greens were tough and I hit a good tee shot on hole 1, right side of the fairway. Went to hit my second shot and the ball was a foot above my feet (in the fairway). Being from VB, I was not used to that. I really liked the course but my buddies thought is was to hard. I've played Draper Valley many times. One of my favorites in the area. Does anybody know anything about Thorn Springs in Pulaski? Is it worth playing?

Auburn Hills is much improved. There are several holes in the back property ( 4, 5, 6, 13 (sort of), and 15) which are narrow and tight. So tight the fairways suffered from not enough light. I put my woods away on these holes. Result: 89. They are much better now. The greens are pretty good, they are small with good roll, with a LOT of undulations that make putting tuff. Fun course and inexpensive.

Anybody use the Grint App? Its a combination of GPS/Stat Tracker (fairways hit, penalties, etc.) and social media app (lets you know when your friends start a round to make you feel depressed.

Not sure how long FootJoy has had these but you can up your golf shoe game. They have four different shoes to choose from and you can customize the colors to your liking. They ain't cheap at $200+ but they do look good.

I'm supposed to play a reciprocal course on Friday (Cape Cod National, which is a great track), but the forecast is for wind, rain, and temps in the mid-40's. That's a little out of my comfort zone, will probably want to pass on that.

Last Friday I had one of the craziest birdies ever. Went driver, driver, 56 wedge on a 450 yard par 4. Terrible first drive of about ~190 to the wrong side of the dog leg. Then went driver off the deck to about pin high, 15 yards right of the green, and chipped in.

I'm moving to Hawaii next week for the military (very lucky, I know). Any other Hawaii Hokies, or those who have visited out there, that can give some recommendations for the golf? I've looked up a bunch of courses, but wanted to get some actual insight from others.

Hawaii has some great golf. You have to play Kapalua...even if for just the views...just make sure you always hit uphill! On big island Waikoloa. Kaua'i has a couple good courses. Liked Kiahuna the best (Poipu Bay also solid)

Yes, you MUST play Kapalua if on Maui. Not just because the pros play on it just because it's an awesome course, though it helps to know where you're hitting. Additionally, play the Bay Course (Plantation is the one the pros play), it's much more fair and actually has some holes directly on the ocean, I found it much more enjoyable than Plantation and is also less than half the price. Also, Makena which is on the "south" coast (which also hosts a handful of other great courses at very exclusive resorts) of Maui is tough but also unique, you'll be hitting shots over lava rocks as hazards so bring your A-game...crazy elevation changes.
I've never played them but supposedly the two courses on Lanai are the best in the state, though you have to take a ferry to get there.

Played Shawnee on Delaware in Pennsylvania last weekend - 45 holes over 2 days in a group outing. First ive played in a year due to surgeries. I flat out sucked, but it was fun to be swingin again. Also used those bionic gloves i had talked about to protect my hand issues. They had a pretty nice feel and seemed to work for protection.

Liberty loss is on me. We were already 0-2 on my golf outings since the season started but I couldn't turn down an invite to play Prestonwood. Ended up shooting another personal best of 73 (not from the tips only 6K yards). Too bad it cost us another loss. Going to switch to Sunday golf if I play again this fall.

I did last year and enjoyed the process. They have deals likes half off full bag fittings this times off year (or maybe in January prior to the season). It's pretty interesting to see the differences in your game just going from club brand and model too club brand and model.
I am by no means remotely good at golf but some clubs performed much better for my swing and was evident in the trackman numbers

I've only been to the one in Nashville, (the quality of the locations vary) but I thought it was great. I got a driver fitting a couple years ago and ended up keeping the head, but getting a new shaft. I have a full bag fitting on Friday. I would just make sure you give them an idea of what you are looking for and budget when you arrive (I told them I was up for anything and they were the experts, so fit me with what they think will work. If you have brands you want, they can fit around that).
As far as buying stuff from them, its very expensive. If you can get a half off the fitting deal, it might be worth it for a club, but I ended up paying $400 for a shaft that I could probably find online for 250-300 at the time. You know everything will be assembled right at CC, but it is expensive.
I would also not do the putter fitting only fwiw. I am doing the full bag, so it is included, but a putter fitting is a waste, imo. You are better off getting a lesson with someone with a SAM putting lab. They will have the same numbers and data, but at the end of the day, putters are either made for arch strokes or straight strokes, and that takes about 10 minutes to figure out. Everything after that is just picking a putter you like to look at. The only reason to try at CC is because they might have a lot of options to look at.

This is super helpful and I really appreciate your insight. I'd also be doing it at the Nashville location, so I'm glad to hear that it was positive since I've also heard it's not the same quality experience at each location.
I was watching some videos online where folks sent them the links after the fitting showing they could get the shafts or club heads cheaper from manufacturer, and then CC met the price to get the business. Sounds like based on your experience, this is the way to go.
Also appreciate the advice on the putter-only fitting. There's a local club nearby that can also do it for a fraction of the price, so it sounds like that's the way to go rather than dropping $100 to tell me something that might not even need to change.
When they run a discount on the full bag, I still think I'll do it, if nothing else to see what data the trackman spits out and to get recommendations when I can afford the full upgrade.

If your plan is to do a full bag, then the putter fitting is included, and you shouldn't need a lesson. I think a CC putter fitting is really useful if you really have no idea what you want. If you do a putting lesson, make sure whoever is doing it has SAM putting lab or similar data collection method. An instructor wont be able to tell if you are lined up a degree and a half closed, but SAM will.
I have never heard of CC matching prices, plus if you get things pured its all $++. My plan this time is to get fit, maybe buy a club, but to then either find reps for the companies, or to find the heads/shafts and build them myself. For a full bag that will be way cheaper than CC.
I believe CC is running the discount for half off the fitting if you buy from them right now.

Agreed on the putter fitting. Find a PGA superstore or a Dicks and go roll as mess of putts on your own. Get a feel for different types of putters, different offsets, different toe hangs...what rolls it best, what pulls it, what comes up short, what has varying distances...and do the SAM lab if you absolutely want to. Otherwise, you can get a solid solid putter at either of those places without breaking the budget or eating up fitting time. (And get a really nice one down the road....one for long term stint in the bag.)

Went to Pinehurst this past weekend and played Tobacco Road, Mid South, and Dormie Club. Enjoyed the courses as much as I could in 45 degree weather with 10-20mph winds.
Tobacco Road was like golf theme park. It was fun to play and I'd like to play it again in nicer weather but not a place I'd like to play on a regular basis. Too many blind shots and putt-putt greens.
Dormie was a great overall course. We played from blue tees which is about 6500 yards but it is deceptive due to the layout. Three short par 4s in the 280-320 range are offset by three Par 4s over 450 yards. Great greens. They are building a great looking club house and adding tons of cottages. Highly recommend playing there if you make a trip down there.
Never been a vodka drinker but I have adopted transfusions as my go to beverage on the course.

I've had an M6 as the big dog in the bag for a year. Replaced the M4 from the previous season. Found a TS2 for dirt cheap on eBay...so snagged it. LOVE it!!!! So much so that I also added the TS2 3wood to the arsenal. Somehow, over the past 3 seasons, I've managed to get to 13 out of 14 clubs in the bag being Titleist. Only hold out is the 60* which is Cleveland RTX4. Tempted by the Vokey SM8, but only have 6 months on the Cleveland, so hard to justify replacement at the moment.

We went to Pinehurst the last weekend in February and could not have timed it any better. Weather (other than a little chilly Friday and rain that night) was amazing, even broke a sweat Saturday and Sunday and still was in the winter pricing. The next weekend was spring prices and they topped out at 50ish. Played Legacy, Talamore, and MidSouth.
Got fitted for some irons (G-4) on Valentines Day weekend, so those should be coming in any day now. Veryyy excited to play with some longer clubs. Mizuno Hot Metals for those wondering. Went in wanting forged but between the pricing and the guy sort of explaining the difference in the way they play (according to him, basically none) I went and ahead and got the "cheaper" option.
Team play at the local courses are starting to ramp back up and so are the temperatures. Gonna be a fun time!

I will say it was extremely pleasant in Myrtle at Legends the first weekend in March. Probably 60% of normal capacity, and it hit high 50s every afternoon. We were lucky with the weather, but not as crowded as usual. (Still jonesing to get to Pinehurst for a week in the future though.)

Old school, but I use my propane torch to burn the old tape off lol.
If you've ever used the compressor for cords, and had them blow out, you'd go old school every time.

Figure I'll replace the RTX4 with the SM9 when they come out next off season. I want an all black one, even the shaft. Those things are fire.
We went to Pinehurst the last weekend in February and could not have timed it any better. Weather (other than a little chilly Friday and rain that night) was amazing, even broke a sweat Saturday and Sunday and still was in the winter pricing. The next weekend was spring prices and they topped out at 50ish. Played Legacy, Talamore, and MidSouth.
Got fitted for some irons (G-4) on Valentines Day weekend, so those should be coming in any day now. Veryyy excited to play with some longer clubs. Mizuno Hot Metals for those wondering. Went in wanting forged but between the pricing and the guy sort of explaining the difference in the way they play (according to him, basically none) I went and ahead and got the "cheaper" option.
Team play at the local courses are starting to ramp back up and so are the temperatures. Gonna be a fun time!

Will do. We've all basically agreed to just make Pinehurst the destination every year. 2hrs and boom, more courses than you can shake a stick at. Beach is too far and way too packed damn near all year.
I will say it was extremely pleasant in Myrtle at Legends the first weekend in March. Probably 60% of normal capacity, and it hit high 50s every afternoon. We were lucky with the weather, but not as crowded as usual. (Still jonesing to get to Pinehurst for a week in the future though.)
