5-Star Kayana Traylor Transfers to VT

The Virginia Tech women's basketball team landed a huge talent out of the transfer portal. Junior guard Kayana Traylor is a Hokie.

A 5-star recruit out of Martinsville (IN) High School, and ranked #41 nationally in the class of 2018 per ESPN, Traylor is a tremendous loss for Purdue where she tallied 15 ppg, 2.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists last season. She has 2 years' eligibility remaining. Purdue's loss, however, is Virginia Tech's gain as Traylor bolsters an already strong roster. With Aisha Sheppard's decision to return for another season, the Hokies return all of their starting 5 from a team that finished 7th in the ACC, earned a 7-seed in the NCAA Tournament, and notched their first Tournament win since their last appearance in 2006.

Let's go! We're a basketball school! πŸ€πŸ¦ƒ

VB born, class of '14

That's big time! Hokies are going to be very formidable next season!

It's Time to go to Work

big time player

Really interested to see who plays pg next year. Does Amoore get bumped to second team or shooting guard. And who else loses minutes to make room? Does someone enter the portal?

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

Can't see how Amoore gets bumped down.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

I hope not; but we have two point guards. One is a 5* and is 5'9"; Amoore is only 5'5". Have to think the skill sets are similar. Which one plays?

Amoore is the better distributor with 4.6 apg last year, compared to 3.9 for Traylor.
Traylor is the better scorer with 15 ppg, compared to 11.8 for Amoore
They both averaged exactly 3 TO/game
Traylor had 7 more steals on the season than Amoore
Amoore was much more lethal at range with a .396-.286 advantage from beyond the arc, and the two are about equal in overall shooting percentage
Amoore is slightly better at FT, while Traylor is slightly better on the boards
They are about even in blocks

Let's go! Ladies set to do some damage next year! The women's tournament always seems to come down to a few teams and the field. If the team can rise to the top of the rest, they could go far each year.

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Definitely buying women's tickets if they are available.

This is a really good pick up, but it's going to be harder in the ACC next year. NC State has all three of their seniors coming back plus just got Diamond Johnson and Madison Hayes. Holy smokes that's a stacked up roster.

And yet we were still 2 points from beating them twice this year.

Diamond Johnson puts State in a whole different stratosphere. She's on the level of Clark/Bueckers as a talent

While I enjoy this, I have to think Kayla King is the one that loses playing time here. Amoore and Traylor will split ball handling and create space for Sheppard. Really need one more Big in the mix to offset the pressure on Kitley.

Don't forget, we also have Shamarla King, Brianna Turnage, and Alyssa Andrews coming in as well.

Turnage is being listed at 6-2 by prepgirlshoops, so she may be able to spell Kitley, along with Gregg

I wonder if the plan is to put more shooters out there and space the floor so that when Kitley gets doubled in the post, VT can make them pay with outside shooting?
