Just came here to share the news, beat me to it, lol.
Glad to see him getting a second chance!
This is good news. I hope he becomes a real contributor
Very surprising tbh
Somewhere, CJ Reavis is bewildered
Correct me if I'm wrong, but CJ had an on-campus incident, no? Might have affected his outcome.
Yes, CJ was a student court issue while Devon was an automatic suspension from the AD for a felony charge, not VT. So CJ couldn't attend VT any more. My understanding is that Devon was able to attend VT this whole time, just not be apart of the AD.
Same with Mook, Eric Kumah agrees:
I hated to lose Mook too, as I'm sure the coaches hated to lose a MAJOR contributor, but WADR no 2 situations are going to be the exact same. I mean it's not like they had the same history, the same infraction, the same mindset.....point being there's way too many unknowns to paint with a broad brush here.
Congrats to Hunter and I'll bet we see a determined player on the field this coming season. DBU is going to be good.
Exactly. Equating the two is a mistake and leave it to EK to make a good thing an opportunity to throw shade. They might want to grow up.
I'm happy the situation for Devon is resolved and he is getting a chance to move forward - I believe that's the right thing to do and I'm very hopeful he will become a success story.
For anyone else like me who couldn't figure it out:
WADR = With all due respect
Thank you!
Correct. There is a camp that says literally no matter what a player does, they should be allowed back and if not - its just "VT out to get them, power hungry student committee, hyprocrite coaches" - as Kumah hints here. and there is also a camp that thinks that when a player has a bunch of dope on him during a traffic stop, good riddance and a scholarship is a privilege, and no nuance applies - each scenario is different, which is why VT has a CAP to provide guidelines.
Mook was a Beamer recruit. Hunter was a Fuente recruit. Totally different circumstances.
Not sure if serious or /s but if serious this is a pretty bad take
If you are implying that Mook got a shorter leash because he was not a Fuente guy, I disagree. I think decisions around criminal charges are above the head coaches pay grade ultimately.
100% agree with you - blaming coaches (no matter anyone's opinion of the coach) for decision's impacted by a court of law is ludicrous. If people use that excuse to go after a coach it's just an excuse to criticize a coach they don't like not a legitimate criticism (especially college coaches)
I'm glad Devon will have a second chance to prove himself as a football player and more importantly as a human being.
I don't know if he can be a Day 1 starter for us given previous performance and being away from the program for a year. However, this at a minimum will allow Devin Taylor to move from safety to corner.
If Hunter lives up to his recruiting ranking and Daley can play FS, a Waller-Hunter-Daley-Strong secondary would a...strong secondary.
Armani Chatman is no slouch either. If he and Waller can play like they did in 2019 we could have one of the better secondaries in the country.
What is this? Good news? No, no, no that's not possible
Wait for it...
Didn't have to wait long for the bad news
Maybe next time, sit this play out.
This comment aged quickly and it aged well (in a terrible sort of way)
100% my fault for not putting in the/S, my bad guys
Really happy for him. Did not think he'd get a second chance at VT.
Here's hoping he makes the best of it on and off the field.
Great news... Do we know how much eligibility he has left?
He is listed as R-JR. So, 2, but it will be interesting to see if the NCAA honors the extra year of eligibility with his suspension at the time. Not sure how that process works, but if it involves VT appealing something to the NCAA, we know how that will go...
He will get that extra year
This is fantastic news. Really rooting for him.
This applies*
*don't be this guy
This shit still makes me cringe every time I see it brought up

Mullets are cool again.
well, sort of. Apparently, "shaggy" mullets are cool
againnow. Not your traditional mulletsNo mullet has ever been cool. It's just people with bad taste being loud on the internet. Same thing with the returning jean jacket fad. Both are terrible decisions people make. We shouldn't hate those people but teach them the error in the ways.
What? Mullets and Jean jackets are up there with trucks sporting the Carolina squat.
Doesn't get any radder.
FTFY
I was a little nervous about googling what a carolina squat was.....
Incognito ftw
His statement was well written/said I thought. Hopefully that was by his own hand and no one else's, but it's nice to have a little more depth added to the roster. He seems like someone willing to fight for his starting spot back so he might put in the work on/off the field.
If he believes it, why should one care who writes it. Not everyone is eloquent.
(Perspective of an attorney who writes things for other people on a daily basis).
Secondary is LOADED
This is surprisingly good news. I don't even care how much Hunter contributes, I hope he's outstanding, but getting his life in order and working hard to get back onto the team makes me a huge fan of his going forward.
Hell yeah baby! Glad to see us give our guys another chance.
Deservedly so.
Don't go to the post on /r/CFB for this because a bunch of LOLUVA, UNCheat, and the Cousins "fans" descended on it. Yikes...
UNCheat has opinions on it?! With all their issues, it's best not to throw stones in a glass house.
To be honest, we would be the same way if they did it. Truth is, we are all ignorant on this one and won't know the truth. My understanding from whispers early on was that the strangulation by definition was cut and dry, the difference being the condition for why he detained her. To fight for pure acquittal would have meant losing precious time. That said, who the hell knows.
Good stuff, everyone deserves a second chance especially a young kid
I'll be honest - I'm a little uneasy about clearing someone with who did something violent to return to the team. I don't really care about drug charges. DUI's are highly negligent and should come with appropriate punishment, but not malicious. Theft is stupid, but not dangerous. But I don't know how you 'accidently' or 'unintentionally' strangle someone.
I hope the coaches are making the right call (what choice do I have?), and I recognize that I don't know much about the situation (so I could totally be missing something), but adding someone back to the team after pleading guilty to assault (albeit misdemeanor assault) feels like not a great idea. Hope I'm wrong.
Usually, at least from experiences with friends, police, family, the charge may have been brought after a verbal or written threat, an act of defense, or a poking a sleeping bear.
Kind of like, when the random drunk guy at an UFC event comes from the top row, and stumbles to the vomitory, as you are walking back to your seat, and he creates an obstruction. He responds with a "this is the UFC" and shoves you, not paying attention to the fact your ears look more like burned out mushrooms than ears. 20 seconds later, you have him pinned against the wall of the bleachers, his arm might be broken, but your rear naked choke is in tight.
You get the assault charges, drunkie gets drunk in public.
Wow, your example has a frighteningly deep level of specific details.
I was looking for the reel I had seen recently, at the start, this big badass girl is talking smack to an much smaller girl, but the last 15 seconds are the big girl getting curbstomped by the short girl, but I had to ask my 13 year old to help me embed it, and she responded with, "Embed in HTML? What's HTML?"
I now want to see this video more than anything. Link?
This oddly specific example had me rolling
It could have also come from a statement to the police where in a little scuffle one person may have put there hand on the others neck for a second or two while trying to push them away.
Devon - Get the tables!!!!
Testify my brotha....lets go Secondary...Git'er done
In case anyone was wondering
Wow that kinda sucks, you'd think his suspension year wouldn't count against him?
Have you met our history with the NCAA and eligibility?
That's a rather sad and anti-climatic end to a highly rated recruit's career.
He's been cursed since that crazy freaky fan photo bombed his announcement party.
I blame it all on that guy.
this is it, explains everything
that was literally before the beginning of his time here.
His entire time here has been cursed.
Sounds like a raw deal for Devon. I lIke the way he stayed the course in the face of adversity, and earned back his place and good standing on the team. Would love to have seen him get that extra year in the O&M, but wish him all the best in his future. A solid Hokie, making good on second chances!!
