Saw it in person. It was ugly. The game stopped for 20 minutes, but it felt like an eternity. He put his hands up when he was being stretched off which is a good sign, but I'm not sure about his walking situation.
I feel so bad for Yulee. He came to Marshall after committing to Alabama over Tech because he was only a partial qualifier, and Marshall is one of the schools to take those. He busted his ass freshman year to be eligible after his redshirt year, and he's regularly one of the more productive and upbeat guys at the tutoring center. I really hope he can come back from this. He's a great kid with a big heart.
Such a sad update with the car accident last night. I responded to this post specifically b/c it's only just a short snippet of what he has had to go through since high school. This kid really truly tried to make himself a better person, and player. Just such a shame to lose this life so early.
He underwent successful surgery today. Doc Holliday said he's gonna make a recovery. Yulee doing a live video on Instagram right now. He's in good spirits.
So, full reco=zero paralysis + 1-0 start season equates to pretty ok weekend for Marshall.

The goal was to get him and Tavante Beckett. Beckett committed and was here for two seasons I think? Transferred and is currently on the Marshall roster. Hope for the best.
Beckett was starting alongside Yulee yesterday. They led the team in tackles before Yulee got hurt. They're a couple of animals on the football field. Stay in their gaps, hit hard, finish plays, and play with passion. Marshall got very lucky that they both ended up in Huntington and figured it out.

He had just been cleared to play again, planning to suit up for a HBCU school in the near future, as Marshall had declared him medically ineligible, necessitating a transfer.

The amount of hard work he put in to play football since graduating high school was nothing short of amazing. He ended up at Marshall because he was only a partial qualifier, and Marshall takes those guys. He had to redshirt in 2016 to get his academics right despite physically being ready to play. In 2017 and 2018, he spent most of his time on special teams adjusting to the speed and communication of college football. He got a starting spot his redshirt junior year only to break his neck week 1. He worked hard to get back for the 2020 season but was told during he wouldn't be cleared. Finally, just recently, he got cleared and was going to announce where he would play college football next.
More than that, though, he was just a great person. I shared some time with him at the Marshall student athlete tutoring center. He worked hard in there but also made it a better place for everyone around him with his jokes and upbeat nature. I'm having a tough time comprehending this one.
A tragic situation, and it always hits a lot harder when you know them personally.
