Bud Foster Statue

It blows my mind that this hasn't happened yet. Has anyone heard of any future plans? If you were to design it how would you do it? I would personally incorporate it into the Beamer bench statue.

just make it an amalgam of all the best memories of bud that make us love him so much. I'm totally on board with him being incorporated into the beamer statue... just need to also make sure there's a visor, a scowl, a clipboard, some prominent veins, an even prominenter mustache, showing him off mid-cartwheel, all while kissing frank on the cheek

I vote for a statute of Bud sitting on the bench next to Frank giving a laser stare at anyone who dares to look at him.

Or the pose of him yelling and giving some sort of gesture that looks like "Up Yours!" with Frank nearby to restrain him from unleashing too much fury.

A 3D hologram amalgam! Best place to project it?

Only if they use this image as inspiration....

Bob: What would ya say ya do here?

Brad: I already told you! I iron out the minutiae so Justin doesn't have to. I have people skills dammit! What the hell is wrong with you people?

I want bud doing a cartwheel!

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

this is the only correct answer. Goatee Bud is prime Bud.

2 pieces of a broken clipboard resting on the ground at the end of the Beamer bench

This. That smashing of a white board into the ground, breaking it half during a timeout of a night game years ago is still one of my favorite memories of Bud.

I believe that was against BC at home in 2001.... and jeezus... we were ranked #6 in the country when that game kicked off.

Would definitely be into a 3D graphic of Bud running down the field after we sacked loluva's QB in 2009. As you walk past it, he keeps running.

The moment where he's hugging Shane and Frank at Beamer's last win over UVA, just needs to be etched into the fucking side of Lane Stadium.

I didn't know I needed this before now. This needs to be a thing.

Not a fan of erecting statues of people in general, but if one is created, it should definitely be of him in his trademark sideline crouch.

Agreed. I don't like the idea of creating statues that depict specific individuals.

Why?

I still think one of his iconic crouching poses next to Beamer.

or

Nah man, put it as an angry Bud in one of the entryway plazas perpetually seething with eyes always burning a hole on the midfield logo of Worsham Field. For added effect, still include the broken clipboard at the Beamer statue, as if he just got pissed off at the pomp and circumstance and needed to keep an eye on the team.

Edit: Pic was already used.... finding another

Can we position the statue at the visitors entrance onto the field? For maximum intimidation value, of course.

Bud Foster and Mickey Andrews deserve to be in the college football hall of fame.

A statue at Virginia Tech for Bud is the minimum we should do for him.

A Frank statue without a Bud statue just doesn't seem right. Batman and robin.

I am sure the Hokie Sports organization might prefer to have the money for some other purpose, but any chance we can create a funding campaign for this? Anyone have Hokie Club contacts that might be able to make that happen?

I mean that bench with the Beamer statute has another side. I sort of assumed Bud would be over there. Now as to what pose, I don't know.

Something like this?

Touchdown Tech!!!

Man, this thread has actually hit me in the feels and reminded me again that Bud is retired. Missing the old days of camp starting and tons of scrimmage highlights to pour over, player interviews, Frank and Bud telling us who has been getting after it in camp, all getting me really pumped up for the season.

I am cursed with that ability.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

It should be 50 feet tall, weigh 10 tons, and shoot fire out its eyes periodically

Straddling the visitor's entrance.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

In my opinion, I'd put his statue away from Frank's. I know they are like Jack&Coke, but if you want to honor Bud's contributions; let him stand (literally) on his own. There are plenty of entrances to the stadium, no need to crowd Frank's bench area.

He did enough to deserve his own place in my opinon.

Let it be where the guest team enters the field. Make it scowling and remind them that teams used to be scared to play in the terror dome, instead of the 50/50 chance they have now of winning.

The Dude Abides

I don't agree, but I respect your opinion.

A much better tribute to Bud would be our defense not getting pushed around by Duke, Pitt and BC, IMHO

Gobble Till You Wobble

Lighten up... and I had to google that

i think you're onto something here... but hear me out, best of both worlds -- we actually have 11 statues of Bud Foster. That's our defense. We line em up, big ole concrete bases, and laugh our heads off as the opponents try to physically literally push them around

Statues weird me out, especially when they are portraying people who are still alive. Instead, I move to rename South Gate Drive to Foster Lane. While we're at it, we can rename Washington Street to Vick Row.

Agree about the statues. A nice monument with a placard of his defensive dominating statistics would be better than a statue.

There is that road that runs between Lane and Jamerson, it should be Foster Court.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

The Colossus of Lane!

It's buried in an old thread. But we had proposed an animatronic BUD head that shoots flames added to the Hokie Vision board. I still think this would be the most appropriate way to honor him:

FOSTERS: Australian for defense

I like this a lot but suggest that the flames shoot out of his eyes and used every time there is definitive defensive play. such as. an interception or a scoop and score.

Ut Prosim Ad Dei Gloriam

The Bud Foster statue should be saddled up to the bar at PKs

I'm picturing a fountain plaza with an animatronic Bud wake surfing

I'm here for the memes, I just stay for the football.

Surprised nobody's suggested early 90's-Richard Simmons Bud yet.

This has to be before he was the DC cause once you're making DC money you can afford to buy the entire pair of shorts and not 3/4th.

This was from a 1991 Recruiting Video, so you are correct. Bud was only working with the linebackers.

Bud foster and Richard Simmons should not be mentioned in the same sentence
