Did we win the football game last night?

VT football is at the strangest state I can remember it ever being while being a fan. I (and it seems many others) just don't care about the actual games right now. I know we played Miami last night, and at this very moment I just woke up after going to bed quite early and don't know if we won or lost. I figured I could log in to TKP and just look at the tracker and surely be able to find my answer, but no vent thread or no FAM thread.

I do know based off of group chats I am in that there were tac shaver ads and some flashlight you boil. But barely any football was talked about.

Y'all spoil this game for me. I am not going to check anything else.

I'm basically in the same boat. Went to a concert for the first time in 2 years, decided to miss the game. I was checking the score, but other than a friend telling me BB3 got benched, I know nothing about the game.

I'm way more into this coaching search than actual football right now.

I was at the Genesis concert in Charlotte. One of the very few games I've missed this season. I will definitely be watching the upcoming game.

I actually watched the game last night. Got out of hand early, then we turned it up and made it competitive.. for a little bit, but ultimately couldn't hang. I wouldn't say I'm numb or apathetic anymore, but I guess I'm more so focused on the coaching search. If anything, last night's game showed me that we still got some fight in us, so I'm more... Anxious/hopeful about our future, I guess. Neither fam nor vent. Lol

Don't get me wrong though, fuck Miami.

To me it felt like a "we lost in a monsoon because of a lot of reasons but also the refs kinda fucked our momentum on a bad spot in the fourth so it's overall meh, thread" but that's probably too many characters.

The team has some playmakers (seems like some may be leaving for NFL) we also have some guys who are putting their all out there, the team didn't look defeated until almost the end of the 4th, they believed they could win. Now what does the new coach do with these players is the question. Should TKP be up in arms because a not great coaches team whose HC was fired 6 days ago lost?

We won the game of life

We put the K in Kwality

AND the time of possession.

But not the turnover battle :(

We watched the whole game. We went in with the thought of it going either way ---they would play like crap or they would play their nuts off. It was a combination of both. They started off looking like crap but made improvements and made it a game. I definitely wasn't as disappointed as I could have been with the game. The refs cost us the game when they gave Miami the first down when the guy was clearly short on 4th down. We didn't get blanked so that is a plus.. The outcome was somewhat expected.

On a side note, there were no Spurtle ads.

We stopped them after that first down. We lost the game because we couldn't pass and our D couldn't cover anyone downfield. The refs were terrible also, but that's not why we lost.

The refs ignored horrible holds on at least two of their big play TD's. The spot in the fourth quarter was 100% on the refs. Even the announcers agreed he was a full yard short of the mark to gain and it should have been overturned. I 100% blame the refs for the loss.

That said our team won. We showed up and played hard. The team didn't quit at any point.

I agree that's why we actually lost but OP has a legitimate gripe that the refs cost us a better chance at winning. The blown call cost us significant momentum and field position, both of which change play calling. The correct call puts us rather close to taking the lead and completely shifting the momentum, something Miami has struggled with letting take advantage of them all season

This is exactly what I meant by saying the blown spot cost us the game. We lost our momentum and chance to come back.

Agreed that we didn't lose because of the spot, but getting a turnover on downs and the resulting short field would have been way better than what happened.

Also, I may be crazy but I think coach wants to save BB for UVA. He knows that one is more important. The weather And resulting dependency on the run made playing Blumrick a legit approach.

BB3 got hurt again last night. Every practice throw on the sidelines he was wincing and grabbing his side.

They're only holding off on the spurtle ads so they can unleash ads for the Alien Tac Sputle. It's the only military grade product you need that can stir a pot, and the boiling water charges the flashlight which will somehow glue things to the wall for you.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

Pfft, they aren't playing Spurtle ads because we bought them out when we ordered their entire stock as wedding favorsπŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Thank your for your sacrifice and may god have mercy on your soul for what you are about to do for your wedding guests.

It's unfortunate that the defense was non-existent initially, and Miami got a big lead. But they definitely stepped up after that. The players were still in.

The refs did us no favors, giving Miami a ridiculous spot, and failing to see obvious holding, which allowed their qb free reign during parts of the game.

But the Hokies didn't quit, and the offense and defense worked some things out. Even though we lost, I didn't feel too bad about it.

We may actually have a chance next week, but we'll be needing to show up with a defense who can defend the pass.

Our defense is a mess. We couldn't stop their passing game in the slightest. They hit 5 or 6 bombs on us, 3 of which went for long touchdowns.

Our offense was.... Meh. Burmeister and Blumrick had the oddest substitute rotation I've seen that allowed neither to get in rhythm. And our passing attack looked very forced.

We had one trick onside kickoff we recovered that temporarily got us back in it, but we just weren't good enough.

If this was an audition for Corn and Hamilton to prove they should remain under a new coach, both failed equally.

At this point, all that matters is beating UVa (which looks unlikely at this point) and finding out who Whit hires.

Calling our passing game an "attack" is an insult to the actual word.

So I just want to say the wide receivers made some insane catches and deserve some credit. Turner made 2 unreal grabs and Robinson had some good ones in the rain I might add. Lofton with the huge one hand grab as well in the 4th.

Directions from Blacksburg to whoville, go north till you smell it then go east until you step in it

Jaylon Jones! What a great first catch, on what might have been one of three hospital balls we've thrown across the middle all year!

Twitter link since we ain't doing embeds.

But seriously. It's a shame the QB situation did end up sucking because we finally got a glimpse of what happens when the freshmen get opportunities. I just hope that Jones, Lofton, Sims, and Moss come back next year.

If that ball was on time he is running down field, it was slow getting there forcing him into the teeth and giving the defense a shot at him. I will say BB had some zip on his throws last night that I hadn't seen most of the year, maybe the rotation kept him from being as banned up. Blumrick looked quick when he kept it, but his vision as a runner needs improvement.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

I was just happy to see us attack the middle of the field passing. And busting out a true option with Blumrick. That was kinda fun

unless i missed something big time, tweet embeds are fine but we avoid 247 embeds bc they get everything all bork

Agreed. Those 2 did make some great catches. But late(r) in the game at a point where it was a necessity, it was anemic at best. Hopefully these young guys stick around and we can find out how fully productive we can be with a competent OC.

I can tell you for sure Corn will be gone. Fuente took the fall but Corn is THE problem. Hamilton I think depends on chemistry

J c price was hired for a reason, no current coordinators will be with the new regime, the team must be reset. Price ,or Tyler or Smith may be retained, but that is going to be it. If the new coach comes in and keeps the current staff, we will be no better next year

I'd absolutely want to keep Price in some capacity if we can. He's Hokie through and through, and proved he knows a little something about coaching last night.

That he could hold that project together last night is a tribute to his football knowledge, and we made effective adjustments on both sides of the ball at halftime.

Defense is a total mess. Both from a coaching and talent perspective right now. Hamilton only rushed 3 or 4 last night and routinely failed to get any pressure on Miami's QB. He had Dax dropping back into coverage far too much. Dax getting burned covering that slot receiver was horrendous. I also don't know what the safeties were doing most of the night because our corners were burned deep all game and there was no help over the top. We need a reboot on that side of the ball, as we are running some sort of Frankenstein Bud/not Bud hybrid system and it's just not working.

Offense - what more can you say, bad. We desperately need a QB. The new coach needs to rebuild that entire room this offseason. Hopefully we can snag a few from the portal.

That was the most excited I've been for a Virginia Tech game in a while. I had no expectation of winning, but with Fuente gone I have hope for the future. With more money at its disposal, and stated ambitions of championships, Tech gets a stab at doing modern football "right". It was also fun to get behind one of our own. This is the epilogue to Fuente's tenure and I hope the final pages are written on a high note.

That onside kick was the most excitement I've seen from the team all year since the opener

Followed by the one Lofton catch ... and the maybe by the Jones catch. Those guys look like they can ball. Also that Tre TD was nice too.

Whom 1ever the next coach is needs to first recruit those freshman WRs to stay.

I like that some of the young guys we've been hearing about all year finally got some shine. Artis was getting some major love from the Miami fans doing the commentary.

Chamari annihilating that guy in open field was kinda dope

That Tre catch only happened because the Danny Coale rule was implemented. Brilliance

Team fought hard against a superior opponent (albeit slightly), they have not quit and that is all that matters. Hopefully we rain on the wahoo parade next week and get a bowl game for JC

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
β€œI served in the United States Navy"

In my view the game was good for the players, less so for the fans, and pretty well meaningless from a program standpoint. Players work hard and playing in the game is the payoff.

I did not watch the game. Was late getting home, saw on my phone the defense was getting thrashed and realized it was going to be one of those. Quite surprised the score ended up where it did as it looked like early on it was going to be a blowout.

It's clear there's some talent on the team. I think a good QB and the team can be competitive in most games immediately next year, depending on who all leaves and stays.

The defense was an absolute mess and the lack of ability to generate any pass rush at all without the "Engage Eight" blitz call will be the Achilles heel of this team. Dude had all day to throw the ball and he was also dropping some Dimes on us. Secondary got torched several times but I'm not sure it really would've mattered how well they covered with the lack of a pass rush....

It was hard to gage how much the rain made a difference in the coverage, but yeah, we had a number of bad breakdowns that need fixed this week.

I watched most of last night's game but it was odd. I didn't have any expectations of a win or a loss. I had no clue what was going to happen Honestly I was just tuning in because I was curious of what we were going to do with a new head whistle, not because of any burning hate for Miami

It was a very chill time.

I found TKP after two rails from TOTS then walking back to my apartment and re-watching the 2012 Sugar Bowl. I woke up the next day with this username.

no expectations makes watching much more enjoyable doesn't it?

It looked like it would get ugly early, but we fought back and made it a game with some great individual efforts throughout. However, we ultimately fell short as the talent differential showed up, and a couple tough calls and one particularly questionable spot sort of shifted the game. I had no expectation of winning, but I was impressed with the way to team fought back and made it a game after giving up TD's on the first four Miami possessions.

Hopefully we can turn the Commonwealth Cup into a "throw out the records" type game and retain the cup and make a bowl game.

All I know is that for the first time in two seasons, last night I actually cared if Virginia Tech won or lost. And I realize that it's a much better feeling to be disappointed that your team lost than to not care at all.

UVA isn't exactly setting the world on fire this year either, so they're very beatable. Considering the circumstances, if we beat UVA to become bowl eligible next week, I'm gonna freaking feel like we won the ACC championship game.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

In essence, the commonwealth cup is our championship game this year.

I feel the same way, and it's one of things that makes college football so special.

Having not watched the game, it started at 1:30am for me, what kind of game plan calls for 30 QB rushing attempts? I understand a few might have been sacks or broken plays, but that was literally half our plays for the night.

It will be interesting to see if there are significant offense changes next week, I imagine JC Price didn't have much say in the offensive play calling this week.

You're not gonna be able to change the system in a week. Don't be surprised when its more of the same offensively.

It's the only thing that was really working for us. We basically turned into a service academy in the second half.

It was absolutely pouring rain for a large portion of the game and our guys aren't the best passers in pristine conditions.

I think no vent thread because no one is truly mad. There were a few things that didn't go our way, defense started the game horrid, but tightened up, Blumrick is our best QB...but no one expected a miraculous turnaround for Price in 4 days as HC, no matter how much GRIT they played with.

Change has been initiated, so I have no reason to vent (except for that 4th down spot that continued Miami's drive, that was beyond ridiculous)

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

I would have vented about ACCN's inability to actually show the first two plays of the game. Why is there even a camera sitting at gut level in the booth?

I just don't want But Sister starting next year.

yea we need to hit the transfer portal for a QB

I probably would've gone out and done something, maybe half watched at a bar, but I got my booster last night so I just chilled on the couch and watched. It was nice not watching Fuenteball and having no qualms about wanting us to win.
