Funny you say that, because they made a sorry-ass attempt to do it in 1984 when the Majic Man (Don Majkowski) let them to a comeback win in Lane, but it got real ugly, real fast when they made a half-assed attempt to tear our goal posts down. I believe it was in response to what happened the previous year, when we actually tore the goal posts down at Scott Stadium (aka, Lane North) in 1983, following a 48-0 shellacing.

They tried in 1984 after beating us in Blacksburg, trying to tear down the goalposts. But the VT students stormed the field, surrounded the goalposts and stopped them. Lots of punches thrown. The band even played the national anthem trying to get people to stop fighting.

I was at both the 1983 and 1984 games. When their fans tried to return the favor and tear down goalposts at "the true Lane" they found themselves in a melee with the Corp and other fans. Grounds crew turned on the sprinklers to try and break it up-BIG mistake! Just made it a mid wrestling match.
What amused me was that all the fighting was in the north half of the field(this wa before the expansion that added the student section there) on the other end of the field there were NO fans..just a county sheriff at about the 40 yard line with his hand close enough to his holster to "discourage" anyone from even thinking about the other goalposts.
PS fun fact at the time of the 1983 squeaker win (48-0 and VT at 9-2 was beat out for a peach bowl bud by the 8-3 UNC team who had lost to the Hoos the week before our game and who were BTW blown out in the bowl game by a 7-5 FSU team..but I digress lol). UVA had not had two winning seasons in a row in thirty years!

As happy as I am to see him win a game as Virginia Tech's Head Football Coach, it can't be overstated how great a player JC Price was. He was a wrecking ball on the early 90s lunch pail defenses as Virginia Tech became VIRGINIA TECH.
He said in the post-game that this team will go down as the most resilient VT team ever. He could be right (if they win the bowl game). But for my money, the 1995 team that started 0-2 but won 10 straight including a Sugar Bowl win over Texas that put Virginia Tech on the map, is that team.
For the older guys like me, enjoy watching Cornell Brown, Torrian Gray, Antonio Banks, George Del Rico, Brandon Semones, Ken Oxendine, Bryan Still, and Dwayne Thomas again. For the younger folks, try to tolerate the low-def video, but appreciate what Virginia Tech football can be:

I am floored. Offensive line, Blackshear, and Burmeister (his best game of his career and didn't get to finish it) played nuts out all game long. Parker Clements is part of the solution. Was really good in the run game. Defense found something late to find a rush and get close to receivers. And thank God for tackle-eligible passes.

Generally speaking, I feel like JHam has been decent at halftime adjustments. Not perfect, but our defense does feel like it generally does better after half. The problem is the offense has usually stopped scoring after the first half ends so regardless of what we do defensively we can't win.

Agree 100% - we rarely win the game on offense when we have opportunities - ex. Score to win, first downs to run the clock out, score to take a 2 score lead vs a one play game etc.
This is a pure mentality issue. This has been much maligned, but our offensive coordinator calls the game in the proverbial not to lose mindset vs a win the game mindset.
There are those that say it's a talent issue and that's true to an extent. I would point out that this talent issue is understood and when that is the case you can't be as predictable, you have to take your shots to win and you have to adjust your game plans and mentality to maximize your potential and we simply do not do this on offense - period. Stubbornness or a lack of understanding I don't know, but this is the root cause of losing so many close games.

I dont understand that play at all. Even if he was COMPLETELY uncovered, is the Left tackle gonna be able to go 15-18 yards to the end zone? I know they could e got a first down potentially but seriously. That's the play you run after practice when your just messing around.

So we had to stream the game because we were at the in-laws and they have Comcrap which means no ACCN. During the game hubby was checking his phone for tweets and game threads and giving us glimpses into the future. A couple of times those looks into the future led to the fear of impending doom because we had only bad info and nothing to follow up with. That was a bit frustrating knowing that something bad was going to happen but not how bad it was..
So we (mainly me) scared the crap out of our 10 year old nephew a couple of times. I think the first time was with the safety. We started screaming and he came into the living room looking very concerned. We were just like "Hi. Just watching football. Nothing to see here." Then the end of the game we went nuts and he was highly concerned again. Our daughter heard us screaming and didn't even bat an eye.

I dont understand that play at all. Even if he was COMPLETELY uncovered, is the Left tackle gonna be able to go 15-18 yards to the end zone? I know they could e got a first down potentially but seriously. That's the play you run after practice when your just messing around.
It let Corny off the hook for sending in Blumrick when VT was trying to ice the game and UVA had zero chance of stopping straight-ahead runs for Blackshear.

Even dumber than I remembered watching it live. The key to a good trick play is the element of surprise. That element is taken away when you're throwing a lateral to a slow ass lineman who's going to need a few seconds to run back to the line.

So we had to stream the game because we were at the in-laws and they have Comcrap which means no ACCN. During the game hubby was checking his phone for tweets and game threads and giving us glimpses into the future. A couple of times those looks into the future led to the fear of impending doom because we had only bad info and nothing to follow up with. That was a bit frustrating knowing that something bad was going to happen but not how bad it was..
So we (mainly me) scared the crap out of our 10 year old nephew a couple of times. I think the first time was with the safety. We started screaming and he came into the living room looking very concerned. We were just like "Hi. Just watching football. Nothing to see here." Then the end of the game we went nuts and he was highly concerned again. Our daughter heard us screaming and didn't even bat an eye.
