Wow, what a surprise. This is totally out of left field
LET'S GO!!!
HOKIES!!!
He's leaving before the Colts fans can find him....welcome aboard!
As a patriots fan I can attest colt fans hold grudges like a mf'er
I was at the Colts-Pats game in Indy last month. Can confirm.
When Indy got that long TD run, a Colts' fan behind me started calling my sister, me, and a few other Patriot fans around us a homophobic slur starting with f and rhyming with maggot.
I stood up and yelled at him. "I'm a public school teacher. My sixth graders insult better than that."
He shut up.
...I swear I've never seen so many grown men acting like children until I started going to NFL games.
Go to a European soccer game, those people are fucking psychos. The shit they scream and the songs can be hilarious but man do they say some wacky shit in those games especially the old innocent looking grandmas even get in on it.
Wait, what is this? Is that Cersei and Khalessi in a show or movie being romantically involved with each other?
I'm so confused
Imagine Me and You
Cersei and Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo for those who haven't seen Yellowstone) eventually becoming romantically involved with each other.
hmmm... Summer Higgins... Close enough to Summer Glau to be Sarah Connor and a terminator becoming romantically involved.
soccer matches in South America are a million times worse than Europe.
I speak zero languages from those regions my spanish is high school levels bad so if I did atleast I wouldnt hear all the swearing I guess. That said there is a very good reason for the cages around the fan sections to keep the players safe in south america.
I can personally attest to the truth of this statement. Rabid dogs have better manners than South American soccer fans and Mafia Hitmen are less prone to violence.
My disdain for colts fan took a serious dive after the deflategate but it made watching the freaking jaguars dumping them out of the playoffs so sweet yesterday.
We Colts fans all know we have only one man to blame for what happened yesterday, and his name rhymes with Fartson Tentz
Bratson Cornelsentz? Ugh, I hate that guy.
Saw an article that basically said this is the best outcome for indy as now they have zero reason to pay wentz a long term deal and can move on without him after this season. Not a bad take really
Did you mean: best outcome for Philadelphia?
Hey I'm just saying I appreciate how he played just well enough to guarantee the compensation being a 1st round pick before absolutely collapsing and making the value of that pick as reasonably high as possible
We accepted the fact that he was never going to be benched by like the beginning of November. And he actually basically only played well after that point lol (until December).
Although I wish we still had it, I hope the Eagles do something with that pick and become a top team. Our boy Nick Sirianni is making a lot of people in Philly look stupid for what they said after he was hired and Jalen Hurts is pretty easy to root for.
I hope they're able to draft someone as productive on the field as Isaiah Wilson
As an Eagles fan, I'll take a 3rd first rounder this year and a playoff appearance.
Also as an Eagles fan, I don't trust Howie Roseman with those picks.
Nope, especially if any of the 3 are WRs
I don't think anyone expected them to give him a new deal. At least for me, the best I was hoping for was him making some wow plays every now and then and Reich helping him cut back on the WTF plays. Got a handful of wow plays, but still way too many WFT (although there were less!). And the offense was actually good because Reich is a magician.
Reich being his best friend gave me some pause, but he was pretty non-committal in the end of season presser. I think the writing is on the wall for Wentz. Unfortunately, there just aren't any good options this offseason, so I wouldn't be shocked if he was the starter again in 22. Unless they make a deep playoff run AND Wentz is the reason for that success, he will almost assuredly be gone after next season.
The wins over NE and AZ had me thinking they could have actually made a run this season and I still think they could've. A huge number of players got COVID though and with many being unvaccinated I think they were not 100% and it showed. It's their own fault though
so all that's left, officially, is WR coach, right?
Correct, so probably either still employed at the NFL level or either Holmon Wiggins or Cortez Hankton #nosauces
Could still be negotiation process or recent hire going through HR vetting as well. (no sauces)
Several tweets from journalists have Mike Brown from Cincy Bearcats joining the staff. Nothing official yet.
There are also rumors that ND is targeting him
I'm a little surprised we offered so many WR receivers out of the portal without a coach for them. Makes me think we know, just have not announced. On the other hand, the OC knows what he needs to run his offense, so maybe not.
I would imagine we're offering because of necessity. Not having a position coach isn't ideal, but when you lose WR1 and WR2 with minimal depth built up behind them (this sounds familiar), it is a glaring issue and you have to backfill somehow. Even with Bowen not being announced until now, you can give them the general schematic of what we'll be doing.
I know Jones, Lofton, and Payoute are nice pieces to have, but they're still all relatively unproven for one reason or another. If we get a senior on board and they see the chance for playtime, that would probably outweigh the need to have a close relationship with a WR coach who they'll only work with for one season.
This hurts Brad Cornelsen's chances at being retained.
And all the QBs rejoice
You have any #sauces to confirm this? /s
This place will burn to the ground when he is retained as WR/Jet sweep coordinator.
I've heard Cornelson saw this pic and was intrigued as to what sort of career he might have by joining the Navy.

He's already better than Brad.
Few more syllables than I would've liked, but I'll take it!
number of letters is still good
Why u gotta change the evaluation criteria like that?
We need to find what his stance on winning the ToP is, for sure.
Moving the goal posts until you win is the best way to argue. CFB fans have been doing it for a century+
It should help the cause that his nickname is T-Bow. (No relation to Tim)
I could not find one with my meager keyboard skill, but a George Costanza "T-Bone" gif would be perfect here.
If Bowen has a sense of humor, first 3 plays from scrimmage next year
1st down - weak side jet sweep
2nd down - strong side jet sweep
3rd down - shotgun QB draw
if he has a dark sense of humor, yes
Is there a better sense of humor than dark?
Dark humor is like food
Not everybody gets it
Lmfao, Jesus
this is fucking brilliant
Nah I want us to run a play action trick play pass to an OL against LOLUVA next year and actually score with it.
Especially if the OL receiver is Swoboda.
The ultimate test of loyalty, cant be to sure if hes a double agent so we will make him pass his initiation by killing the boohoos down in booville by catching the pass and mercilessly ending their season.
Spring game would be a "safe" place to make those calls!
I see no problem with this.
What happens if these 3 plays go for 3 straight TDs...
What kind of moral purgatory would we all be in?
Well then obviously Fuente and Cornelson couldn't get the players to execute where as Pry can. So we concede that Fuente was telling the truth about player execution and then be happy we have a coach that can teach players to execute.
I will stand by the statement - Fuente and CO's biggest failure was acquiring and retaining high quality talent - very very poor on that front. The x and o criticisms have been blown way out of proportion. Saw too many well designed plays where players dropped the ball (literally).
to prove this, look what happened to the run offense when we finally had players that could make someone miss. Herbert went off in 2020, but there weren't enough Herbert-quality players on the roster.
It's not just recruiting and retainment, they failed completely to develop the talent they had and they failed to adapt the system to what best suited the players. Fundamentally they failed across the board.
Right. I think we all can agree that with developed playmakers their system can work (see the first year they were here). So I think in a vacuum they could very well be decent to good X's and O's guys. Fuente's people, for the most part, were terrible at everything else. Recruiting, retention, development, in game adjustments, public relations, etc. They will always remain G5 caliber coaches if all they can do is come up with theoretically good plays
This. They couldn't recruit talented players or develop the ones they did sign. If you can't do either you are going to be a mediocre team at best as evidenced by our record during Fu's reign. He did good out of the gates with Beamer's players but then couldn't recruit or develop worth a shit.
No purgatory, it would be a quick 21-0 lead against ODU, and fuck that school hope we bury their asses
I have a degree from that institution I agree with you...
No more corn 🌽!
Awesome. Hopefully some of the other staff can school him up on Twitter and Social Media because he doesn't seem active at all. Getting spoiled already with the other new staff.
I'm on the record as very much against this hire, but I'll reserve judgement.
Glad he's finally on-board at least, and isn't Corny.
As someone who knows nothing about him, what are your reservations?
He has literally one year of full time OC experience, and it's at Fordham.
With a HC whose experience is strictly on the Defensive side of the ball, it seems to me that the *most* important hire Pry will make is the OC. I was expecting someone with more experience.
For all I know, he could be the next superstar coordinator but this seems like a very risky hire.
The good news is we have 3 offensive coaches that have OC/play calling experience. Also didn't Bowen have play calling duties for a season at Penn St?
Bowen called plays in the 2019 Cotton Bowl where Penn State won 53-39, which included 396 rushing yards.
https://www.espn.com/college-football/game/_/gameId/401135277
True! And 53 points is a lot more than we've been scoring - but I don't know how much stock I put in a bowl game that was him running someone else's offense.
He was Co-OC, not sure if he was the playcaller.
His OC season was at Fordham
This is a fair take. Are someone who was pretty frustrated with the in-game management of our offense last season, it would have been nice to have someone with a ton of experience calling plays. But on the flip side I like that he has experience at the highest level of the game. Overall I still like the hire because he comes with a lot of positives but I can still understand your concern.
He's credited with recognizing and adjusting the gameplan in that Cotton Bowl that led to PSU running it down Memphis' throat. His one in game adjustment exceeds that of the previous playcaller
I agree but there seems to be some element of crapshoot in finding good playcallers and experience isn't always better.
Leoffler has called a shit load of plays and over a decade of experience and still calls them as hc of Bowling Green. But when he got tossed in the Buffalo game, they scored more points in the final 18 minutes than any full game during his 3 year tenure.
Jeff Lebby is one of the best play callers in college football and he had hardly any (zero?) before he took over at UCF in 2019.
There are tons of more examples, more experience does not necessarily mean better play caller. It can mean better player development, but making the right in game decisions seems to be more of an "it" factor.
For sure, if we'd hired a guy like Leoffler I'd be furious - why hire a re-tread who's been a failure?
But, with the announcement of a $5.5M assistant pool (or whatever it was), I was expecting a big(ger)-time swing for the fences type hire for OC.
Again, it's less of a "this will never work" and more of a "man, this seems very risky with a first-time HC who has only DC/defensive experience".
I'm with you here, I fully expected a bigger higher than Bowen. But I also read somewhere that assistants only get 1-year to 2-year contracts at best. Trying to get a big OC to come to blacksburg with the state that our offense was in (prior to the three transfers) is not an easy sell. Their reputation would be on the line and there is almost no proven talent to work with not to mention and tremendous amount of roster management needed. I believe Bowen has been identified as someone who can grow into the role while the price of having to rebuild the offense does not offset the gain of being an OC for a P5 school.
To be fair, I think Brad Glenn is a big time hire - this is Chad-Morris-to-Clemson type hire. Better hire than Gattis to Michigan a few years ago (Gattis had never called plays before going to Michigan). But I'd be more excited if Glenn was OC than Bowen.
As others have said, I'll withhold judgement for now. But I agree with others - it does make me a little uneasy to see a first time head coach hire two playcallers with (almost?) no playcalling experience at the P5 level...
So truth be told I would have been okay with Brad Glenn as our OC, which might be a controversial opinion here. The fact that we've got Glenn coming on board to specialize in his area in addition to Bowen makes me feel like the future is in good hands.
I'm not too concerned. Pry is calling the D and Bowen has two experienced coordinators (Glenn and Rudolph) flanking him. Stu Holt is also an excellent, experienced coach. My biggest concern in the whole group is probably JC
Why? It seems like the offense is being built around a tough run / play-action passing game. This hire is consistent with that. He's experienced as a successful play-caller and has previously coached OL and TEs. We have a QB guru on staff as well. We didn't get the flashy hire but I think this offensive staff will bring us back to our identity.
Marve as DC is hard to explain but hopefully Pry knows he is up to the task.
I don't care about style.
But his resume isn't paper thin, its tissue paper thin.
you're not wrong. I take solace in the fact that he's going to be surrounded by other coaches who have been 'round the block several times. Same sort of set up Pry is creating on Defense too, with Marve. Young guy, light resume, but being surrounded by guys with a lot of experience who can help mold/guide him. Between Glenn, Rudolph, and Holt the offensive brain trust will have plenty of experience and coaching chops.
Edit to add: And Pry is clearly going after this type of structure on purpose. He has a plan and a philosophy and he's implementing that on both sides of the ball. He's putting young, albeit lightly proven, guys in the coordinator position and then surrounding them with tons of experience in other coaches. He's emphasizing recruiting and the guys he's bringing in mostly have P5 experience with programs that really focused on smash-mouth football and controlling the line of scrimmage. I'm just happy that this coach has a clear vision and I hope that he's able to implement it going forward. It's still an upgrade from the previous staff. There was no vision before. Now there is. That, in and of itself, is something to be excited about.
I'm less concerned about lack of experience on the Defensive side due to Pry's experience.
I'll be honest, I don't love the Marve hire either, but I know that Pry knows defense so I'm more willing to give the benefit of the doubt there.
I hope it works out! It's not like he brought in a guy with a lengthy resume that's really suspect, which would be worse! I just hope Bowen is ready for the massive offensive rebuild...and I hope that having the experience guys around him *does* help.
I can stick around if you like
Is this the VT equivalent threat of "DON'T MAKE ME TURN THIS CAR AROUND!!"
I don't know why I find it funny that the face shield is labeled "face shield." Does he needs that to remember what it is? Could labels have saved his coaching job?
Still more intimidating than GRIT
If he pans out -- great! If he doesn't, then at least he wasn't the best man at Pry's wedding so Pry won't be scared to move on from him haha.
I know you're making a joke (sort of), but this is spot on. I said in a thread some years ago that coaching turnover for whatever reason is a part of the business, and that if the HC is going to excel, he needs to be able to manage it effectively. If Pry is the coach that we all think/hope he is, he must be able to deal with that kind of situation and make the tough decisions when required. This is another area where having a really solid staff (GM, CoS, etc) is going to pay dividends, because you would expect them to provide honest feedback to Pry when it comes to personnel decisions. Fu clearly wasn't open to outside advice (see Kill), and it ultimately cost him his job.
What is baffling is that Fu himself brought in Kill, whom he knows personally and trusts, to give a frank assessment. He told him the truth and told him if he didn't fire Corn he was going to lose his job. And he still chose to do nothing! If you don't listen to someone you trust there's just no helping you.
really makes you wonder what the heck was going on behind the scenes....I'm extremely curious to see where both Fu and Corn end up eventually. Looks like pretty long odds that either of them will land any job before the 2022 season. Fu has a safety blanket, at least. Corn, however, is in much more need of employment. Should be fascinating to see what kind of job he lands, and when.
What is the sauce of this statement? I've seen it many times on this board but I've never seen the article or report (or interview or whatever) that it came from. Behind a paywall somewhere I imagine.
Story that has been shared many times on a few different sites now. Essentially, Kill was reviewing film with the offense and became completely disgusted with the quality of analysis, to the point of telling Corn he knows high school coaches who can study tape better. Tempers flare so everyone leaves for dinner. They come back and Kill almost gets in a brawl with Corn. Kill recommends to Fu that he move on from Corn and he of course does nothing.
If Corn's ability to break down film was this bad, Fuente should have been able to see it himself. Either Fuente's ability to break down film is also limited or Fuente delegated that completely and did not game review himself once he became HC. Or, he knew Corn's limitations but was unwilling to make a change due to his friendship with him.
If what you are saying is true, it is truly hard to believe Fuente couldn't see it for himself. Fuente was a top flight OC before his Memphis HC job.
I don't think Fu is a terrible offensive mind at all, but I think he is a terrible head coach. We always seemed to play really well in season openers, likely from that much time in the off-season to prepare and him being able to be more hands on in the game plan. But he seemed to just delegate the offense week to week to Corn and really struggled at all the big picture CEO activities that the HC has to be involved in. I think him struggling to handle an HC job of this magnitude and his undying loyalty to Corn did him in.
So, from what I can tell this is the actual source of the story. 3rd hand and sort of confirmed by a TKP insider?
Not sure what details to believe from the Kill era other than we would have been better off if he'd stayed.
All water under the bridge now I guess. Onward and upward with Coach Pry.
🤔
What kind of offense is he expected to run?
forward moving is all I'm hoping for....man Fuente and co really set the bar low
I don't know. If the offense keeps moving forward, they'll score a touchdown. Sounds ok to me.
More emotion in that fake than we saw from Corny in his whole tenure.
Welcome aboard, future scapegoat
Fair point. History will not be on his side as you have to go back to Ricky Bustle to find an OC that pleased the fan base. There were a few early years with Stinespring (2002 - 2005) that his offenses were ok (mainly due to very good rushing attacks) but then after that the wheels fell off. And Loeffler and Cornelson's shortcomings have been well documented on here. So yeah Bowen has his work cut out for him.
On the positive side for Bowen is he is coming in after Cornelson and any improvement will be appreciated.
You want to be the guy that follows the guy who was followed out of town with torches and pitchforks
Following in the footsteps of the clown show that was Lefty and Corny, the bar is low. Any improvement paired with CBP's '85 Bears like D will be good. Strong run game, no turnovers and trust the D. Slightly /s
Personally, I hope Bowen's first play from scrimmage is a jet sweep to the boundary...then never ever again
Fake handoff with jet sweep motion to the boundary, then hand it off to the RB for a dive straight up the gut for a TD.
Obligatory "the jet sweep to the boundary should be a terminable offense" reply
The memes are fun but does anyone else actually kind of love jet sweeps? They are super effective when done right and open up all kinds of plays. Go watch a 49ers game and witness power running with misdirection and horizontal action in its most glorious, modern form. Here's hoping we more closely resemble Kyle Shanahan and less CornFu
I honestly don't care one bit what play we call as long as we are getting yards and converting first downs.
Guy couldn't even teach Tim Tebow how to block... I don't know about this one.
I'm confident Tebow never practiced a snap with the Jags. He questionably took preseason snaps but I refuse to believe he did anything with the team other than that.
We got the better of the two T-Bows from that room, that's for sure
Tebow also won a Heisman and 2 natty's yet no one could teach him how to play quarterback either
I'm sorry Steelers fans... I can't resist:
I am just amazed that in this gif, the frames per second line up with how fast they are moving their legs so it looks like they are gliding across the surface of the field. It randomly reminds me of those vibrating football games from who knows how long ago.
