It looked like Tech never came out of the locker room after halftime. Almost like they figured the game was already over.
But in a way, I'm glad they got their wake up call tonight and still pulled out the W rather than a blowout tonight and them coming out totally flat on Monday and catching the L. At least CMY has plenty of teaching points to discuss with the team on their way back to the 'burg.

Was it just me or were the refs letting them fight it out like an old Big East game? The most egregious to me being a defender falling on top of Maddox and Maddox getting a flop warning. Going down when a whole ass man falls on you is too soft apparently.

Why is it that we continue to fall apart in the second half of games?
Is it me or does it seem that Aluma and Mutts physically look thinner (less muscular) than last year? These two are talented, but are they building into NBA bodies? Where are the harder picks, boxing out? Even our guards-Why do the shots stop dropping from outside the last 10 minutes? Fatigue makes cowards of us all. Our team just seems out of shape at crunch time!

We don't have enough depth and our top 6-7 are worn out by the under 8 time out. CMY deserves some criticism for not giving Pedula and Maddox more minutes all year, but the lack of development by Ojiako and other bigs is also a problem. Aluma is spent by the under 4 and actually places us at a competitive disadvantage because he has nothing left at that point.

Also, Mutts really needs to stop the post up backwards finger roll. Just go up strong through the defender's chin when you have that position. Better chance of making the shot than that weak sauce and much better chance of drawing a foul.

Well honesty I think they have figured out the secret to avoiding the final 10 minute collapse!
Precisely they will need a 28 point lead at intermission to overcome the last 10 minutes of every game. Now that they know it, we should see it more consistently.

Gotta take them where you can get them in the position we are in. Our analytics look decent as far as March goes. We are two games below .500 in the ACC with eight games to go. If we can get to .500 or even above it and win a game in the conference tourney, I like our position. When the committee is looking at résumés, they're not going to look at this Pitt game and say "well, they did blow a 28-point lead." They're just going to see the win.
Even more encouraging is the recent production from the bench. When we were thumping teams early on, we weren't getting a lot of bench production. I figured that it might haunt us, and it has. Maddox and Pedulla have been good options recently, and N'Guessan is getting good minutes pretty often now.
Every game remaining on the schedule is winnable, and we should be favored in at least half barring injuries. Now is the time to peak.

I tried to map out which games are must wins the rest of the way, and even with an decent schedule it's tough. We can't drop the Pitt game, Georgia tech game and probably not the Clemson game. UVA is starting to play better. Louisville I'll believe we can beat when we actually do it. We really need to beat Carolina, which should be a Q1 win. No team has ever made it without at least one Q1 win I believe.

Agreed, we absolutely need to win the next three. If we drop the UNC we absolutely have to win the Miami game. Every game left with maybe the exception of Gt will be a dog fight

Tonights game could be a trap game the way we played in the second half. Need to hit free throws we cant afford to let teams back in the game late like we did against pitt. A win is a win but that felt less a win than normal. This team has shown all kinds of potential in bursts but the inability to be more consistent over a 40 minute game is why were at 4-7 in ACC play. Really like seeing storm murphy driving inside and taking shots now when hes on it adds a much needed dimension to the offense.

Flipped over from this to the Olympics at half time with the monster lead, and then watched my phone as the lead shrunk over the 2nd half. Can't believe they almost lost this one.
FAM for hanging on though

Glad Storm came to play. Mutts chipped in but we need him to limit those turnovers. FAM
We won by five, going away. Did I miss something?
We were up by 20+ before half and 10 with under a minute. Did everything to try to give the game away as per usual.
You missed the 28 point lead that we let them chisel down to 3 with like 2 minutes left in the game
Did I, cause I'm not really sure I missed it.
Leg, damnit.
Maddox is a walking bucket.
My mind went immediately to this

WE ALMOST PISSED THE BED BUT WE HELD IT IN FAM
I think we DID - just didn't piss it away enough. Not sure if that speaks more to us or Pitt.
SWEEEEEEEEEET CAROLINE
How does the rest go? Not enough alcohol yet.
Well let's do it again soon!
Almost gave it up but held on, Fam!
Hokies now #9 in the ACC. 3 games back of the double bye
In the last 3 games, the Hokies have seen 6 x 15 point scorers. 5 of them unique. The only repeat 15+ point performance was Murphy.
this particular bridge stayed up fam
FAM!!!
Not going to win many more if we don't fix the turnover problem. Pitt had almost half their second half points off of turnovers.
It looked like Tech never came out of the locker room after halftime. Almost like they figured the game was already over.

3 straight, is good right? Right? Let's go Hokies!!
BUTTS FOR MUTTS!
Of all the repeatedly used gifs on tkp, this one is top notch
And, yet, another thread almost melted down when a legacy hire was deemed "qualified." Sooner or later we're gonna have to pick a lane.
He only had 8 TOs! So close to a double-double.
He is the most hit or miss passer on the team. For every gorgeous feed he has one that makes me slam a fist into the couch.
Was it just me or were the refs letting them fight it out like an old Big East game? The most egregious to me being a defender falling on top of Maddox and Maddox getting a flop warning. Going down when a whole ass man falls on you is too soft apparently.
That call was very perplexing
Still have lots to work on, but...
FAM!

"What's the point of building a 28point lead if you aren't going to use it?" - VT basketball team probably.
They didn't even need all 28 points! Could have been a 24 point lead and we'd have been fine.
Yea. 28 pts was a little bit overkill, if you ask me.

Going 4-0 on this Cassell stretch would be very very nice.
At worst, we need 3-1.
Agreed, we absolutely need to win the next three. If we drop the UNC we absolutely have to win the Miami game. Every game left with maybe the exception of Gt will be a dog fight

If anything they should be on high alert and realize they played like hot poo that 2nd half and get back to actually trying.
Home court should also help.
Should, hardly ever does.
