So, um, is it over? No one's posted a final here, so in my universe it's possible that the Lady Hokies are still piling on and it's 143-9 or something by now.

Folks you need to try and tune in tomorrow. The more people who watch the better the ratings the more likely we see more games on actual TV. This squad has a great chance to win ACC regular season, contend for tournament win and host not only a regional but a super regional before advancing to the softball World Series.

How does the 3rd ranked team commit 6 errors? Ladies scored 23 runs on 22 hits (?). Very frustrating to watch. fsu had a conference on the mound every time a batter got on base. Let's sweep!

Bot 5. Bases were loaded 1 out. Lady Hokies give up only 1 run. Fly out, then base hit but threw out the runner at the plate. Could have a been a lot worse. On to the 6th.

For those of you who cannot watch it here's a 30K ft synopsis of what is going on:
In the first game our freshman pitcher (Lemley) was called numerous times for an "illegal pitch". Both of her feet come off the ground at the same time. It's definitely illegal, but it's rarely called unless its really pronounced/obvious. It is pronounced/obvious with her at times, but not every pitch.
Today, she comes in for Rochard and is called on every single pitch... I think we had to work through 6 outs during that inning?? First our pitching coach was tossed then Coach D/Amor was tossed... There was an obvious agenda by the umpires. Not sure if the coaches did or said something during that first game, but something is clearly going on.

This is 100% on the ACC. No one has ever swept FSU at home. Now the whole world knows why. We absolutely kicked their ass on the field today. One ref decided the outcome of this game. What a loser.

What happened was a ump who made the game about himself and his will to get fsu a win this weekend. He should never be allow to call any game again. He is a travesty of person and I hope he is proud of himself for being a jackass loser

But also something the Hokies will need to address, as it's a thing now.
Absolutely... However I'm not certain they can really fix it until this offseason. It's a key part of her delivery on certain pitches.
With that being said, something must have happened between our coaching staff and the umpires during that first game... I can't imagine a scenario like this playing out under normal circumstances.

So, I'll share this, knowing how things work with officials. Someone took notice of the illegal pitch and made an issue of it. Who knows when, or who, but Lemley is specifically being watched. If it happened before the games, then every official in the conference is going to be watching her like a hawk. If it happened during the game, then that's still probably the case, but it might also just be a one off thing. I've known of basketball players who were known for "travelling". It didn't matter if everyone else was taking the same number of steps, those players got called. I've seen it be so bad that refs blew the whistle anticipating the issue, and actually made the wrong call. Once a player gets noticed for dirty play, they're always going to have the officials' attention. That's why I always viewed Brock Hoffman as a risky play. Maybe he was good, but at some point he was going to start costing us. Luckily, he kept it reigned in last season.
I've never seen the calls stop. Once it's been shared around the circle of officials (and I can assure you, they all talk. They're worse than a bunch of teenage girls), the calls will continue to come. Essentially, if she doesn't get it fixed, it's going to be a nightmare for her. Even if she does get it fixed, she's probably going to get called for it, even if it's remotely close.
It sucks that we lost based on those calls. However, they are technically correct (the best kind of correct). I hope it doesn't continue to cost us.

This reeks of the softball community putting VT back in their place. I mean we just come off of beating the piss out of FSU in back to back games on their campus, and on the verge of making it a sweep you start calling the equivalent of the travel in the NBA on every pitch? Both feet off the ground on the pitch is what 75% of the pitchers do, and umps have always looked the other way unless it was particularly egregious, I mean hell, BC tweeted out a pic of their own pitcher doing the same yesterday.
If they hammer Lemley for the rest of the season over this, make no mistake, its only because Virginia Tech isn't supposed to be this good, and the softball community is taking matters into their own hands to push us back to where we belong.

You may be right, but I can't speculate to that end. All I can share is that this is how things tend to go with officiating groups. If it's the correct call, they will continue to make it. She's now the victim of a point of emphasis.

I'm not a softball expert, but you it seems like Lemley's back foot gets up more, and doesn't drag as much. It's pretty close, but there's a thin line for most rules. If that's the rule, then that's the rule. I just can't put any stock into the idea that it's only being called against us, because we traditionally haven't been as good, and the powers that be don't like that.

Let's Go!!!
Hokies.......
7-0 top of the 2nd. They are seeing the ball well.
This team is disgustingly good
Are we about to slaughter rule the #2 team in the country?
My goodness. 11-0. Agree.
This team is legit. Crushing the 3rd best team in softball.
Run rule the 3rd ranked team please.
Frustrated about this not being on TV, would be good for the conference to highlight these matchups
Well run rule is off the table for now
Its 11-10. What the hell is this team doing
No words for that collapse.
11-9. Not that it makes that 9 run inning any better. That hurt.
Damnit.
Keely needs to be on to finish this out.
6 more outs.
We need to score some more. Lost that mo.......
Some momentum back the other way to extend the lead! 13-9
Nice pitching Keely. Let's put up some additional insurance runs in the 7th.
Nice Hokie triple then a sack fly.
14-9

So, um, is it over? No one's posted a final here, so in my universe it's possible that the Lady Hokies are still piling on and it's 143-9 or something by now.

These ladies are bat ass.

What channel and when?
ACCN at high noon
Thanks just went and looked it up and was planning to edit my post. Legs for doing the heavy lifting.

Easy, they played the Hokies!
Can't watch the game (at work), but it looks like we're tied 2-2 in the bottom of the 5th of game 2.
Bot 5. Bases were loaded 1 out. Lady Hokies give up only 1 run. Fly out, then base hit but threw out the runner at the plate. Could have a been a lot worse. On to the 6th.
Crazy error!! Hokies plate 4!!!
Inside the park grand slam! Lady Hokies up 6-3 top of the 6th.
F'ing umpires absolutely ruining this game with the horrid inconsistencies. Just walk off the damn field and get on the bus.
They are actively fucking cheating
Wait what the fuck?
They should be ban from calling a game ever again
Seriously, walk off the f#@king field and head back to Blacksburg.
Congrats FSU you had to cheat too win. I hope yall feel good about that
Who makes the call on the illegal pitch? The umpire? Or the FSU coach?
For those of you who cannot watch it here's a 30K ft synopsis of what is going on:

And that's the game... FSU wins 7-6 on 3 free runs given by the umpire.
This is 100% on the ACC. No one has ever swept FSU at home. Now the whole world knows why. We absolutely kicked their ass on the field today. One ref decided the outcome of this game. What a loser.
Did the commentators say anything about the calling being absurd?
They agreed that the calls were technically illegal, but also thought it was a bit unfair as it is not something typically called.
Random question that is irrelevant now but has me curious.
I saw in the box score that it was ruled an inside the park grand slam by the Hokies in the 6th. Why wasn't that a single with a 3 base error?
You generally don't score it an error if it's not a routine play, and the outfielder diving for it would turn it into a non-routine play.
The third base umpire who made all the illegal pitch calls is ACC Official Craig Hyde. I hope to meet him one day.
If I ever see him at any hokie home game I'm going to heckle him so bad he gonna eject me
Tell him he's the reason the average sports fan doesn't respect/watch women's sports.
He doesn't work outside of Florida unless Florida St. has an away game π€£
NCAA National Coordinator of Softball Umpires Craig Hyde
WTF just happened? I don't watch softball ever but that was bizarro world stuff.
What happened was a ump who made the game about himself and his will to get fsu a win this weekend. He should never be allow to call any game again. He is a travesty of person and I hope he is proud of himself for being a jackass loser
I'm still pissed. How the hell was that bullshit allowed to happen
At least they won the series. Although, I hope some justice will come about. Not sure what sort of justice, though.
Sounds messed up.
But also something the Hokies will need to address, as it's a thing now.
Edit: Odd, though, I read a game summary and this didn't come up.

Replaying right now on ACCN if anyone missed it
Lemley has a bullseye in her back with the umps. Illegal pitches are called once in a blue moon.
Spread Eagle?

Just like basketball, another sports-wide conspiracy against Tech.
Watched the two pitchers featured in this tweet. I don't much difference in technique.

Time for a video audit of every pitch FSU threw the last three games.
