OMG, now I've ID'd the problem. It's in Indianapolis.
It's great that this assclown is stepping down but if you think he will be replaced by anybody who is going to change anything for the better, I think you are going to be disappointed.
I'm not expecting some huge overhaul, but I do think the next hire will be better equipped to handle a post-NIL, post-portal world.

At least Jobs started Apple with Woz and legitimately built it from the ground up. Musk just buys existing companies and calls himself a founding member, taking credit for all the work that was done before him.

I've only seen a few talking heads mention the role of the NCAA is going to change, and with it the change in the role of the NCAA president.
Tx schools from FCS to NAIA are discussing they're own Tx Division. The top 5-7 conferences are discussing breaking away altogether. NIL, transfer portal, etc, what's the point of the NCAA when all this starts to untangle?
I really don't see any point to the NCAA. What exactly do they provide?

The NCAA is created by university presidents and ADs, for university presidents and AD. The NCAA's primary goal is to give schools a way to profit off of college athletics without technically profiting off of college athletics.

Today its just there for Olympic sports. Basketball and Football are Semi pro leagues run by ESPN and Fox. nothing more. Players can transfer at will, players can sign 6-7 figure NIL deals, players can go to class one semester and fail and play hoops and go to the NBA. The NCAA has no real purpose now outside of olympic sports- organizing championships, etc.
They do control the basketball tournaments, though, which is why they have any kind of power at this point.
It seems to me that the next Pres will be a critical hire. Either the NCAA gets a strong leadership type that is able to bring the conferences into line and solidify the organization, or they get another cardboard figurehead like Emmert to manage the decline. Knowing the NCAA, I'd bet on the latter.
heck I'd bet on the latter simply because there's a real lack of strong leadership types in general
I fully expect the NCAA to hire the 'strong leadership' type, but I also fully expect this person to act in the interest of the schools (aka: profitability), not the players or the sport at large.

I can't see him wanting the headache. And if the NCAA is just looking for figure head, they need to reach out to UNC they ran a fake department that somehow wasn't in violation of NCAA rules.
