Arch Manning visiting LOLUVA

We point and laugh often, but I'm impressed that Tony Elliott was able to get the kid to visit. The connection to UVA through his family helps, but anyway you cut it, it's a big deal for them.

He can get into a real football school.

Still, I bet they say "Hi" to his mom.

Time to give Elliott a raise and extension!! Exceeding expectations already!

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Yes, he has "raised their profile" with this visit.

Wasn't he planning on visiting UVA before Tony Elliott was hired?

Was he? Funny if true.

I think it was a rumor from a year or so ago that I read somewhere. I think both his mom and aunt are UVA grads. And Eli considered UVA as well before committing to cutcliffe and Ole Miss.

Yeah there is a family connection. There are some old videos of Peyton and Eli out there when they were being recruited wearing UVA shirts. That old southern money looking at all the elite schools of course. Gag.

In addition to his mother being an alumni, his sister May is a freshman at UVA.

Media: Arch visits UVA for football
Reality: Arch is on family trip to take sister back to school post spring break

Look, I have no idea if Elliot will be successful, but all of his success (particularly with QB's) was related to elite players making elite plays - at every position. I wasn't impressed with his scheme. Let's play this out for a minute and imagine that Manning lands there (I don't think he will), who will block for him? Who is the RB? Who are the WRs? LOLUVA does not have what Elliot needs in order be be successful based on his track record IMO.

Is coronavirus over yet?

UVA has had some pretty good quarterback play in recent years, and it has taken every ounce of that for them to be even remotely successful. But that QB play has not been the traditional drop back, pro type quarterback. It has been the gunslinger, hurt you with their legs when they have to playmaker types. Even with Tom Brady at the helm, your point is very valid. What are the other pieces at play?

With that said, I'd take a 5 star QB visit any day.

I think we'd all be pretty hyped if Arch was heading here for a visit. I doubt he goes there, he wants to win, and you're not going to do that a middling ACC football program. Would I take a visit from him though? Sure. How often have we had 5 start QB's on campus? It doesn't guarantee any success on the field, I get that, but it's a cool headline for the program, you can't deny that. The kid is said to be a once in a generation talent.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I'm pretty sure we've had a few five start QBs...

Sorry, couldn't resist.

We've had a few 5 stars as well. Showed when we had them on the field.

I haven't seen Arch play. Is he more Archie/Cooper type athlete or more Peyton/Eli type athlete?

Well 247 has him as a pro-style QB, but wikipedia says he ran for 1 TD in his first televised game so I don't know.

I just read a UVA reply that "every OL, WR, and RB will want to play with him"

I don't know if every OL, WR, RB would take their talents to Charlottesville. If he were to commit early on, they'd get a good haul of talent there on one side of the ball to play with him, that's for sure.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ #YNWA

I would challenge that players would flock to where he goes. I don't see a lot of players giving up NIL money of the SEC. Goong to Bama is way more of a sure fire way to get in the NFL than following the top QB recruit. UGA is close to Bama in that regard. It's not like either are going to have a slouch at QB. USC has to be another destination for offensive players. It just doesn't seem like a good idea to follow a player to a school that hasn't had much luck. But 18 years aren't known for their amazing decision make so who knows.

However, look at Clemson saw an uptick 2 seasons after they got Trevor Lawerence, so most of those players would get 1 year at best with him. But the year they got Trevor was only slightly better than the year before or after (which can somewhat be attributed to get a top player)

UNC saw a slight improvement with Howell but that was also the first full class of this coaching staff. But it also didn't really help UNC as they were 6-6 with a QB that was supposed to be a 1st round pick (which is doubtful now). All the pro talent he had left because they were there from the last regime. So those players that flocked to UNC really missed the boat as he didn't benefit from them nor them from him.

Every OL will want to catch screen passes from him

Will he commit to UVA? Probably not, but he's not visiting for fun.

He's visiting because his mom went there.

I'm sure she enjoys the 5 star mom treatment.

Do not Google "5 star mom treatment" while at work!

I suspect I shouldn't google it at home, either.

Oh God. Now I so want to do that and see what 'comes up.'

As far as I know, he has no interest in us. That being said, I hope they land him and he's exactly as successful against us as Ol' Peyton was when he battled Florida.

Yes, let him go there and get sandwiched every November.

If you play it, they will win.

Personally, I prefer the "Let them see no success for their football team, on or off the field" approach

See, and I prefer the "kick the shit out of them when they feel like they have hope" approach.

If you play it, they will win.

A lot of them don't care, and I'm OK with that, too.

Hope destroyed = apathy.

But that's why I want them to have hope get rid of the apathy...make them care...make them think it's happening...then BOOM reality.

Apathy is the thief of schadenfreude. It's so much more fun when they care. I want a constant cycle of hope...reality...apathy...hope...reality...apathy... Short bouts of hope and apathy with at least a decade and a half of reality.

If you play it, they will win.

Arch when he sees the Virginia facilities compared to Alabama, etc. "Alright mom, fine I visited!" ...

But he can break a Lowes paver with a hammer if he chooses uva...

uva - the taint of the ACC

and be on the loo too.

I don't think UVA has a realistic shot at landing Arch Manning, but I do think Tony Elliott is a great recruiter. Obviously, he won't recruit as well at UVA as he did at Clemson, but he will recruit better than Bronco, and it's plausible that he out-recruits Mike London.

The UVA/VT coaching hires are a really interesting dichotomy. Both proven coordinators, albeit on opposite sides of the ball. Both proven recruiters at near-blue-blood programs. One a hot name that had discussed for openings for years. One flew under the radar until VT reached out.

Next few years of recruiting in the commonwealth will be interesting.

Twitter me

I'll say it now:

Arch Manning will become the next Ronald Curry. Expect Wahoos to bitch about not signing him for the next 20 years.

It would be bad if he actually became a hoo.

"... I think he played his nuts off. And you can quote me on that shit."

Remember how good UVa was the last time they got a couple of 5*?

Oh wait, they didn't even make a bowl game.

That's not going to happen.

That's OK, they've got Barnum Armstrong.

I hear his offer is actually non-committable because of all the pass catching OT/WR's they want to take.

uva - the taint of the ACC

With their game-planning, they certainly could use one.

Love of that ugly ass creamsicle orange must run in the family.

If you play it, they will win.

Texas probably put together a 6 figure NIL deal for him.

Only 6?

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Can't wait to hear about his NIL deal lol I bet it's at least 1 mill. It'll be interesting to see if he can help Texas get back over that "good but not great team w/ tons of money" hump they seem to have been stuck on for a long time.

Can't wait for him to transfer 2x before graduating.

Might be TIC, butttt with Quinn Ewers also at Texas... Do you really think either of these guys are going to sit for a couple years?

Tbh I don't think Arch winds up signing with Texas, but we'll see.

Twitter me

Ewers has taken two live snaps in the last two years (he skipped is senior year to go to anOSU early, and then handed off twice for them on the two snaps he took) so I guess we have to wait and see how he does this fall.

I have a buddy who is a Texas alum and season ticket holder. He told me that word is Arch wants to redshirt, so if Ewers wins the job this fall would be a starter two years then head off the the NFL (all this coming from a Texas homer, so yeah) He also said the big selling point is Sark and all the QB's he sent to the NFL from USC, some that did not really pan out (Lienhart).

I've also heard that Arch/his family are very okay with him not starting year 1/redshirting year 1. Makes the transition a little more palatable.

While I don't think many highly rated QB's are willing to sit for two years, or even one year in some cases, that doesn't mean all of them are not okay with it.

Ewers busting would be one of the biggest busts in a long time.

I did read something similar on reddit about Sark being a huge selling point. Sounds like he's a very good recruiter.

Twitter me

Yes, and Sark gained a LOT of development cred for Mac Jones going from 3* backup after-thought to Heisman contender, 1st round pick, and best performing rookie QB in a stacked draft class.

As for Ewers, I don't necessarily expect him to bust, but these QB ratings have been extremely inflated lately. I think the last two recruiting classes in particularly have had a ton of near five star, and some five star guys who would not have been five stars or close to that composite line even a few years ago.

If Tennesee won the 3rd best QB in this class Nico Iamaleava with an (allegedley) $8M NIL deal over three years, what is Arch worth to Texas? Here that beeping sound? That is the bank truck backing up to the Manning household.

With that surname and hype, he might be the one kid whose name, image, and likeness actually justify a financial / endorsement deal NIL claims to be.

(TBD whether the name and hype turn into wins, but.)

The kid comes from one of the wealthiest families in the history of professional athletics. I'm sure NIL deals factor in (more from a pride standpoint than anything else), but let's not act like this kid is making decisions primarily (much less purely) based on the finances.

Edit: From SI

Manning doesn't figure to have let financial compensation dictate his college choice. His family has money, and if anyone understands that the real payday comes at the NFL level, it's the Mannings. Cooper Manning, Arch's dad, can afford to buy a round of Sweetens Cove (the family's bourbon brand) for all his pals at The Kingpin tonight in New Orleans.

Twitter me

Not to mention his NIL value would have probably been pretty similar if he went to UGA or Bama as it will be in Texas. I think Sark is the main draw here, and his ability to get QBs to the NFL.

Man I talked to some UVA homers I know recently who actually thought they were going to get him. I told them they were out of their minds. "The family really likes the school!" "Elite academics!" Lolol

So we didn't get Arch Manning. Oh well. I don't think we were even in the running.

But today, not only did Arch Manning not go to LOLUVA, VT hit the big time. We were the answer to CFBordle

We hit the big time, friends. From here there's nowhere to go but down.

Why are you not guessing Hokie first? Every. Single. Time.

It's a good question. HOKIE does knock out three vowels right off the bat. Might have to change up my strategy here.

How in the everliving hell did it take you 5 guesses to go with Hokie

Do you even Polytech, bro?

This is my school
This is home

I know. After guessing HELIO I was like, 'wtf horse how did it take you five guesses to get this'

I believe that STARE CHINO LUMPY is superior to AMINO TRUES GLYPH because S in the first slot is superior to S in the final slot (although maybe not for cfbordle wordset) and because C is a better letter to guess than G, since it forms more common consonant pairs and it's easier to infer a G based on other patterns

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Wait, you guys have three-word sets? Are y'all not playing on hard mode?

SOARE is where it's at. Anything that hits, shift it over one spot and pick a new word that fits.

It's basically a must have for sedecordle and it's a good idea to have a strong opening three word set in case your opener is a total blank and you need to pivot

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

There's another one called Hurdle - there are actually a few called Hurdle - but the one I like a lot has 5 rounds. 1st round is just a wordle game. In the second through fourth rounds, the answer to the last round is prepopulated for you as the first guess in the next round. In the fifth and final round, all 4 of your previous answers are prepopulated as guesses and you have two guesses left to try to get the word.

I mention this because it forces me to *not* use my starter words in each round. Say the answer to round 1 was STARE. Well I certainly wouldn't use TRUES or AMINO as my first guess because I'd be duplicating letters. In rounds 2-5, I am forced to find new words that use mutually exclusive letters, which forces me out of my comfort zone. Hurdle is a fun version of Wordle.

Then I move onto the rest of my morning routine - Wordle, CFBordle, Worldle, Quordle, and Crosswordle. I stopped playing Lewdle because I don't know enough lewd words and they don't let you use the normal dictionary. I could never get Heardle. And the other one that is also called Hurdle never told me the answer when I would inevitably fail so I just quit that one.

I'll have to take a look at sedecordle.

I don't play hard mode. I know it's a cop out but I don't see the point of doing a daily game if it's going to stress me out that much.

I lead with:
POUND (HOUND if S or T hits without others)
Usually get it in 3
Insert 60%of the time GIF

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

I stick with STARE as my opener and just go from there. If you stick with "hard mode" rules it actually helps eliminate so many possibilities that it actually ends up being the easier path.

I suck at words and I'm still at 100% going back to pre-NYT days.

With that said, I do have 3 standard words for quordle - TEACH, POURS, BLIND. Those have done me well for now.

This is my school
This is home

yeah but OREGON has six letters, not five

Definitely - a three word set that includes all the vowels and mutually exclusive consonants is definitely the way to go for quordle.

I was a late adopter of the Wordle fad but I think the only time I lost was when FOYER was the answer and I had three letters in the correct spot on guess 2 but then BOXERed, JOKERed, something else, and finally LOWERed my way to my ultimate defeat.

Quordle starters:
WOUND (sometimes FOUND)
7: 58
8: 60
9: 13
131-1. Unfortunately that loss happened deep into a streak so I'm just sitting at a streak of 94.

Warning: this post occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors)..

STARE is indeed the most superior starting word and I appreciate that your three words include all vowels and the common consonants STRHNLP.

I started using these three at some point and didn't look back. I would have liked to include C and W in my initial word set but was too lazy to come up with new words. My only ragret is that none of my starter words are likely to be the actual word and as such I am unlikely to ever be lucky enough to stumble across a victory on word 1.

I go for consonants first - sometimes I can get it in two rounds.
SHIRT. If nothing hits I go out of the box with MONEY, though I may have to try using PLANE.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

Consonants first? Bold strategy. I find my words usually get me the answer in 4. I am like 80% solving on word 4.

using the three words I posted I have no losses

2 18
3 61
4 32
5 3

I'll have to try that. I am about even on 2 or 5, with a few more 4 than 3 in the bell of the curve. A few 6 sixes, and I missed one that I count. Sometimes I play the unlimited one at home after drinking - my scores are much worse on it, though my win percent is still 96%.

Sometimes we live no particular way but our own

My 3-word set is TREAD PIOUS LYNCH. Makes quordle very easy to complete on turns 4/5/6/7.

Agreed, a scattershot attempt at maximizing letters in three rounds for quordle is usually a winning approach.

Good for him.
At least we won't have** to hear about how he is football royalty and all the comparisons to his grandfather and uncles.

** I mean we will hear it on GameDay and such but it won't in in our faces as much with him being in Texas. And we won't have to hear the Zima drinkers ramble about how they landed such a magnificent QB who will bring championships to whoville with his Manning arm.
