This is the way we're moving forward with this rather than having portal entry discussion megathreads with 500+ comments that needs a part 2 or a part 3, people making individual threads anyway, info getting lost in the shuffle, and so on.
If you want to provide a support for a megathread, you can do that IN THIS THREAD. Don't go into every single portal thread and rehash the same comments, same pushback to those comments, etc in each one. We'll lock those subthreads -- you're not in trouble, it's just distracting clutter. And for the love of god, some of you need to stop the petty bickering about it.
We are generally receptive to feedback and trying new strategies for managing the discussion on the site -- sometimes it's not easy as the more hardcore tkp users adapt quickly and some less frequent users arent as familiar with the changes. We tried monthly VT Recruiting News thread and Recruiting Discourse threads separated from each other for a few months, and it just made things more confusing. We're trying.
Perhaps the way we currently approach Recruiting is could be a way forward for this in future years -- one running catch-all thread with individual threads for new commits, decommits, etc. Perhaps after the national championship game, we can make a Portal Retrospective thread and look holistically with the benefit of some hindsight.
This year, we are doing individual threads, and i strongly suspect that individual threads will stay moving forward, perhaps as a more fleshed out approach.

All praise the portal?
Hmmm
I hear you, but don't you think this comment would be better off in a ongoing catch-all portal thread instead of making its own?

Aren't these two of the user behaviors about which we used to sneer at TSL?
It's probably not worth it to put down other hokie fan communities. I've always thought TKP was the best of them, in part because of how civil things tend to be. One of the portal entry threads got pretty catty pretty quickly and that's not okay.
As far as the quick adoption of changes by frequenters, that's just naturally the case in general across most things in life. It's easy to miss a PSA or a single comment in a thread if you dont browse more than once or twice a week.
I actually meant it as a little bit of a shot at ourselves here, bagging on the other site for behaviors that are creeping on here as well. But I admit I can see how it read as a shot at the other site.
FWIW, I subscribed to both for several years, and actually didn't mind the old format that drew so much ire. I like Will and Chris as human beings and had many tailgate beers with each, back when I had time to go back to Blacksburg.
I still subscribe to TSL, I like their content. I just haven't participated in the community since things started getting unpleasant near the tail end of the Beamer years.
Not complaining at all, I think it's a good idea....but as of 9:30 this morning on 12/5, it's actually kinda depressing seeing how many there are so far, haha!
I feel like Pry's statements probably had a lot to do with pushing some guys over the edge in their decisions. Not that that's a bad thing, the man knows what he wants as his vision for the team and some of the 'dead weight' just isn't gonna cut it, either way, and I think they're seeing the writing on the wall.
Better stated than I could. Thanks for putting this together GGC. Also thanks to Fireman for staying on top of all the portal departures.
You really had to use a gif of Beamer in a cock hat, didn't you
Don't google.
But are you 800% committed to separate threads? And where's your battery level? Inquiring minds wanna know! /s
The thread I posted this is in locked, but I had some thoughts on how a mega-thread would come into play, and others did too: https://www.thekeyplay.com/comment/1170709#comment-1170709.
Is there any interest in keeping an ongoing table somewhere central?
Maybe put a table in a thread and lock it. Then mods can unlock (not sure if that's possible?) and add a comment for each player that include links to that player's thread?
IMO it would be nice to have a centralized place for transfers, somewhere I could go to get a snapshot of who's in the portal leaving VT. Looking at individual threads for each player doesn't really give me a good idea of who/how many have entered the portal.
Another option is mods just pasting a table like this in each thread? Or I could just paste it as a comment in each thread?
Anyways, just an idea.
EDIT:
Doesn't have to be this table - could be Player//Pos//Year//Link to TKP thread//Link to 247//Link to twitter//
Whatever works, but I think something centralized would be nice.
I like this idea a lot. I think multiple threads for discussion makes it easier to read the comments, but having a centralized place to track all the transfers in & out is super helpful.
I think this is a good idea. Feel free to spearhead that thread if you'd like.

"Beautiful, Clark."
Joe - thanks for being open to feedback and for providing your thought process. I wasn't trying to ruffle any turkey feathers. I think this year is an outlier from a volume perspective and something like this was what I was getting at.
I'm not tech savvy enough to embed a table, and I've used the tracker maybe 2 times total, but now I'll give it a shot now based on your comment.
Praise portal thread.
Go Hokies
What about a megathread for posters entering the thread transfer portal? Id like to announce that I am opening my recruitment to any threads with early comment opportunities and strong NIL collectives.
How about a thread for discussing megathreads? π€ͺππΊ
Or a thread for discussing megadeath?
It's "Megadeth" (no 'a'), and Rust In Peace is the greatest thrash metal album of all time.
Megdeath doesn't sound right
So after all the dust has settled I'd like to ask someone to evaluate what we lost. It's hard keeping up with all of this
This thread might help.
Right on, thank you!
Link?
i'm not going to edit in a recursive link lol
This is what I see when I think about this quote:
