VT Outgoing Transfer Master Thread (2022/2023)

Using this thread to capture all players leaving Virginia Tech via the transfer portal. I'll update this thread periodically as players announce they are leaving.

  • We'll start a different thread for all players entering Virginia Tech via the portal (when we get there...)
  • This link (originally shared by Superman Those Hoos - amazing name btw - here) is really useful for tracking headcount/scholarship numbers
  • This link to 247 (shared by below by freefall) is a sortable database of (almost) everyone in the portal

Cam Kelly is in the portal from UNC. Maybe he meant he was 800% committed to us in 2023 when he gave us the verbal in high school

Gobble Till You Wobble

This sub-thread was locked by a moderator.

Based on the people entering the portal so far (excluding Kaleb Smith), and Pry's comments about being very open to development players, it's starting to look like Pry is implementing some form of an 'Up or Out' policy: If you're not consistently an in-game contributor, and you're not improving/growing, you should look elsewhere.

Of the first 10 players to announce their entry to the portal, 6 are upperclassmen (4 of whom are 2nd string at best). The remaining 4 underclassmen aren't close to earning a spot on offense or defense.

247 says we have the most players in the portal of any team so far (as of ~6:30 EST on 12/5). Good sign IMO.

Twitter me

Read elsewhere tonight that Alabama had 11 in the portal according to tracker. Read into the number whatever you want. Not sure it means much when there were over 3000 in the portal last year and more are expected this year.

Go Hokies!!

It's not about having the most players in the portal; but having this many shows that Pry & Co. are aware of the talent gap, and are making an effort to turn over the roster.

Twitter me

Don't disagree at all. Smith is the only one that I'm disappointed to see. And maybe Chatman a little. Smith is the most reliable receiver we had IMO. Portal needs to bring a better Smith into the fold. Chatman deletes some experienced backup as that is where I see him next year (and he must see that too).

Go Hokies!!

This 100%. They've had the tough conversations and are doing what they should be which is evaluating the roster and shedding players/scholarships which we need to bring in players who can affect change.

Good.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Bama has since taken the lead in this category. They have put a handful of OL and three receivers who would probably be the best receiver on our team in the portal. Hopefully we can nab one, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I went scrolling through the portal on 247 sports last night. It seems like there are more talented players than there are talented teams with holes at X position --- I don't expect us to portal our way into being an ACC contender next year, but I think we should be able to get some guys that will meaningfully improve our team.

There are so many players in the portal that are not going to be interested in our situation, but I think there are enough talented players in the portal that some of them will eventually have to trickle down to a program of our stature. That may not be top-end portal talent, but I think it'll still be an upgrade over what we had this season.

some of them will eventually have to trickle down to a program of our stature

This is basically my thought, but our stature is on par with uva at the moment. We are not going to get anyone that any good teams want, because why would you come to VT right now over even a team like Pitt? I don't see myself getting excited about anyone we get in the portal this year, at least based on name recognition. Guys can always surprise, like Herbert, but we are not getting a starting QB from a team like Oklahoma State, or a 3rd or 4th option WR from Bama.

We are not going to get anyone that any good teams want, because why would you come to VT right now over even a team like Pitt?

As I said in another thread:

To attract recruits you need to convince them:

  • that you can get them to the NFL
  • that you can get them NIL/bagmen money
  • that you can get them playing time
  • that they will like being at your university/on your team for the next 1+ years

Recruits don't care if you had 1 win or 10 wins last season. If you can check enough of those above boxes, they will come.

A lot of our coaches have experience either (a) putting players in the NFL or (b) playing/coaching in the NFL. They need to sell that along with playing time and fit/relationships.

Twitter me

I am a little worried about our ability to attract the higher end portal WR options unless we get a portal QB to make our situation look more attractive. The higher end portal guys are probably going to focus their attention toward three things:

1. A safe, and appealing offense/defense in which there is little doubt about the opportunity to showcase their skills and make a case for the NFL

2. NIL.

-gap-

3. Opportunity to be the top guy in a less favorable situation.

We can offer 3 at the moment.

We don't even need higher end receivers. Mid tier would be an upgrade, that position was as bad as I've ever seen it at tech.

-Stick it in

I agree with WR being a point of concern (especially with Kaleb Smith entering the portal). I just don't see our QB getting better (via transfer OR growth/improvement) unless our offensive line gets better. Given that I'm not confident in our NIL apparatus, we really need Bowen & Co to sell a vision.

Echoing Engineer above, building depth at WR would be an improvement. Improving upon Kaleb will be tough, but improving upon Jones, Kakavitas, and Moss should be doable.

Twitter me

There are issues literally everywhere on the offense. There is no single (or two or three) answer to the issues.

But if I were to pick one, it be the on-field personnel. EDIT...it WOULDN'T be the on-field personnel.

Give me Drew Pyne (Hokie connection) or Jeff Sims (reports we are interested), Ali Jennings (connection to Mines) and 1-2 other WRs. Also Cam Kelly and Tony Grimes joining Mansoor, Strong, and Cam Johnson in our defensive backfield would be massive. I think if we could coach up Kelly and Grimes in Pry's system it would be a massive coup in the 757 and huge indictment on UNC's coaching staff.

My guess would be Pyne may be looking at LSU

Go for it

I hate to rag on the guy in multiple threads now but Drew Pyne is leaving because he isn't going to start next year. Outside of one performancd against USC, he's not an upgrade over Wells.

-Stick it in

Pyne isn't coming to VT but to act like a guy recruited by Marshall and ODU who played absolutely awful is the same as a guy who committed to Norte Dame is laughable. He's not coming so it doesn't matter, but if he did he would start over Wells before he even got to campus.

Go for it

I'm 800% sure I don't want Cam Kelly in our backfield

I feel like from the limited Carolina games I saw, he was on the field for like 2 or 3 good plays and a lot of bad ones.

I wouldn't want him in our backfield either. But maybe in our secondary??

He could be a 757 redemption story for us. Maybe all he needs is proper coaching because we know Bly can recruit but can't coach worth a shit.

"Give me a fuยขking beer", Anonymous Genius

Lmao posted that late last night just caught it. If we can get a 757 redemption story I'd rather it be Grimes, at least he's stuck at one place and hasn't been tossed around like Cam Kelly. Plus he has more name recognition and more hype out of high school

Am I crazy to still think Grimes is really good and would be a take at the vast majority of P5 schools? I don't feel the same way about Kelly.

We'll see. Storm Duck just put his name in too. That's a guy that I would be perfectly fine adding to this squad

I mean Buzz Nutter needs a run for his money at the top of VTs all name team so I'm all on for Storm Duck.

Storm Duck sounds like something Justyn Mutts would've yelled last year when hurling a quick assist that wasn't expected.

Go Hokies!

Isn't Storm Duck just Miami's mascot?

I said what I said with full understanding of our current standing in the CFB landscape.

I'm not hoping for a top pick from the portal. I'm just saying, there's a deep supply of talent in the portal and we're in short supply at the moment. I think the overall pool of talent in the portal is deep enough, that even with last dibs, we can probably find some upgrades over the current options on our roster.

EDIT: and those upgrades may not make us a formidable ACC foe, but they might be enough to make us 5-7 without any completely flat, non-competitive showings.

Don't get your hopes up. The portal is just an SEC carousel for any players worth taking.

Free Hugh

What I find interesting about this ranking is that we're the only team at the top with a losing record. Our transfer count is also raised by multiple walk-ons transferring out. So our number isn't really so high, but it also doesn't feel like an exodus (I know we're cleaning out) whereas TAMU & Clemson kinda do.

Outside it's night time, but inside it's LeDay

I'm actually ok with this given the talent deficiencies we had last year. More spots for good players will help, but its up to the staff to fill those spots with good players. Talent issues can only be excuses for so long.

This is my school

Lets also show some respect to our guys who are leaving. And hope they find a place where they get a run.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Exactly. They may (or may not) have been the most productive here, but they were either not a good fit for what we were trying to do or we were not a good fit for their particular skill sets.

Thanks so much for doing this. I try to check TKP when I can during the day and comment here or there, but when there's a flurry of activity like this and we're doing separate threads for them - it really does help to get a top-down view on all of it and have it collected in one central location.

I really do like that Pry wasn't kidding with the 'tough decisions' statements. When the man says something, he doesn't waffle and seems to mean it in every case. I love that.

So do coaches do the same thing with portal players as they do with high school recruits where they'll start following them? I guess we could track stuff like that. Might be a lot of work though lol.

Yeah there's people noting coaches following players on the incoming transfer thread

This link (originally shared by Superman Those Hoos - amazing name btw - here) is really useful for tracking headcount/scholarship numbers

Most of these guys have been at VT 5 years. They should have been graduated already. Other than Lakeem and DJ there's not a lot heavily recruited guys that arent seniors. Enzo is the backup longsnapper. No one on this list really says the sky is falling, it's bunch of 6th years that probably still want to play and I can't blame them, but at sone point Pry has to get the team back on a non-covid year schedule with scholarships. If the plan is to be good in 2024 then getting playing time for players that will be there in 2024 is important. I loved watching all of these seniors but at some point is fine too move on so I wish them the best.

Are we surprised to not see any OL hit the portal? We've got a lot of bodies at OL, so does this mean they aren't going to be looking to the portal for immediate help at OL and they're comfortable moving forward with the current roster at that position?

On the tech lunch pail site they don't have offers listed for any OL. It's all WR's, DL and some CB.

If you don't want to recruit clowns, don't run a clown show.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Looking at 247, there's 20 OL on our team:

  • 3 upper classmen
  • 5 Sophomores
  • 8 Freshman
  • 4 incoming recruits

Maybe there's a lot of confidence in the young guys based on what has been shown in practice? Maybe the scheme is switching back to zone, a la the Liberty game, so there's thought that these guys should stay on? Maybe it's just early.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that it doesn't matter who we have at QB if OL doesn't take a big leap forward... early indicators - while early and far from final - are not reassuring.

Twitter me

And since we haven't seen any outgoing OL guys perhaps they like what they have in the incoming and younger guys they just need some time. Though some veterans to help solidify the line in the meantime would be nice.

But again if they are happy with what they have and think another off season under Rudolph can get them where they need to be then maybe we are good.

Anyone know Pry's policy on our players in the portal? Would he let them back similar to Hooker (the 1st time)? Would we want any of them back?

I've got a suspicion a healthy amount of these portal entries came after those difficult discussions you hear about.

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

He talked about on TTL last week. If you enter the portal:

  • Your scholarship is no longer guaranteed
  • You can come back (if your scholarship is still available and the coaches think you're still a fit)
  • You can use the team's facilities
  • You cannot participate in team activities.

Twitter me

Are we gonna have a thread tracking our portal offers, or is that gonna come under the recruiting thread?

Now finish up them taters; I'm gonna go fondle my sweaters.

Glad to hear that from a player. We must be selling more of those boilerplate shirts that we thought.

If you feel the leather in your hand let it rip.

This comment is not intended to be a statement on the relative worth of a particular player, just a general observation.

Drop 1999 Michael Vick onto the 2022 team and ask yourself, could VT's NIL package keep up with an offer from one of the blue bloods? It's one thing to provide competitive NIL deals to guys that aren't demanding top dollar from the market anyway, it's another to provide competitive NIL deals to top-end talent.

Personally, I think someone with Vick's talent wouldn't touch the 2022 squad for any amount of NIL money if they were smart. The positive takeaway is we're not behind for a top 10 Virginia player, which is exactly what we're trying to recruit right now.

To answer your question VT probably can't dollar-for-dollar compete with the blue bloods, but it's not everything (looking at you Jimbo) and our offerings are at least in the discussion amongst the big boys.

Honestly surprised we didn't see more people enter the portal

Same. I do wonder if we'll see more in the spring window, or if anyone is in wait-and-see mode.

Twitter me

Yup, pay attention to how many our incoming class+transfers are, early enrollees, etc etc. I expect we see a handful more in the spring, could be more if there are late additions to the 23 class or more folks coming in from the portal

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Bitter mentioned that if current players are enrolled at the start of the spring semester, then their scholarship is guaranteed for the whole semester. Expect to see more players enter the portal beginning the day that class starts.

I wonder if the scholarships change to general from football, if the player leaves the team in the spring?

My guess is that they would come from the football (or at least athletics) budgets. No way the university is going to pay for that.

Twitter me

It evens out. Most of the other guys would be coming in after spring semester at that point.

"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" - Colonel Sanders via Ricky Bobby

I did too. I expected 15-20 to leave.

I mean, 13 left, and there's probably more coming in the spring portal period. Feels like we're on track for your expectation.

Twitter me

I'm not surprised at all. It's a balance.

If you're a starter on VT - and remember VT had ZERO players on the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd All-ACC teams - how many guys on the VT roster are going to improve their football lot by transferring?

If you're not a starter, you either need to be willing to take a huge step backward in the level of football - and better already have your degree. If you don't have our degree, how many would be willing to potentially be making an absolutely terrible life decision going to the portal?

We need a "hit the portal" NIL fund

Given all the changes, any chance we talk Kaleb Smith into staying around?

Good. I hope he takes another look. We'll need him next year.

If VT can add a #2 or #3 receiver to go along with Jennings, Smith would be wise to return to VT.

He might be wise to return even if they can't get another receiver.

Kaleb Smith is the perfect #2 receiver next to Jennings

I am not sure what to do with my hands now

Just taking a quick look at our offensive scholarship numbers by position it seems like we still have too many RBs (7 including the 2 commits), especially considering who was productive for us this year. Do you guys think there will be some attrition there and if so, who? My money would be on Chance Black, who seems more like a slot receiver or jet sweep guy than a traditional running back. Maybe Kenji as well? Didn't they say last year they wanted to pare our RB room down to 5 or 6 when they came in and we had like 10?

With injuries we played 5 guys, 1 has left, you could argue the 4th and 5th could have been one guy. So we have Thomas, King, Duke and would need 1 more with potential injury.

I would guess that Kenji will hit the portal out of that group. Black could move to WR though.

Keeping Cole Beck on football scholarship is absurd. Scholarships are so valuable, why waste one on a guy that can't play. I think 4 years in the program and no meaningful snaps is enough of a trial. He's fast. He's not a football player. Give that scholarship to someone that can contibute

Cole Beck is an important player on special teams; and you need some of those.

Doesn't matter if it's cake or pie as long as it's chocolate.

I think I saw him on kick off coverage, not sure how many tackles. But first guy downfield for sure. #14 I believe.

...with spirits true and faithful...

He was on kick-off coverage team and usually first one down the field. Don't know if he make a tackle or not or just keep the returner in the middle of the field.

Go Hokies!!

Try again. He was on scholarship his first season. Stepped away from football for a year or two and then came back in the team this year and saw ST action. There are almost certainly less valuable players thank Beck that are on scholarship. Go complain about those.

It's Time to go to Work

https://roanoke.com/sports/college/va_tech/decorated-virginia-tech-track....

I do share your thoughts, but Pry did put him back on scholarship. Sure there could be other folks more worthy of being cut out, but we all know DC has a special spot in his heart for Mr. Beck.

edit: after rereading your comments I may have misinterpreted your comment. If you meant he hasn't been on for a full 4 years, my apologies.

Does he actually have any eligibility left? Seems like he has been on the track team forever.

2023 would be his covid super senior year and final year of eligibility

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

This is the same fanbase that was going to run Fu out of town if they didn't offer Beck a scholarship out of HS. He got hurt his first season (broken collar bone, I believe)...so he concentrated on track. He should be on a scholarship now...I think he was underused. Should've seen some action if nothing else than just run fast downfield and let big arm Wells throw it toward him.

https://www.espn.com/college-football/player/gamelog/_/id/4361967/cole-beck

These are not the stats of a guy you keep on scholarship. I really wanted to see him utilized on offense but for whatever reason the staff didn't put him out there. We need massive turnover and unless there is a massive depth issues at WR I dont see how he can stay on the team.

He is literally the fastest player in the ACC.

Yes, he needs to be used more

We put the K in Kwality

While this is true, it is also possible that he's simply not a good football player. His HS film was very underwhelming, and while he has speed for days he seems to be very tentative with poor vision (this is obviously an observation based on an extremely small sample size). At the end of the day if he was who everyone thinks he is he would have gotten more touches.

Is coronavirus over yet?

He's just not a football player. You could see it when he was trying to down our punts. He managed to look extremely unathletic, or at least uncoordinated, at times when trying to down the ball near the goal line. He's super fast but not a football player.

Those are things you can teach (can't teach speed) and Pry has only had him for less than a year. That said he has to want it and the coaching staff has to be sure he can get there

We're going to turn the roster over almost as much next offseason when Beck has exhausted his eligibility. If he can contribute to the culture and special teams up to Pry's standing, he'll be on scholly for one additional (and final) year

Meh, it would be weird if we played them next year but since we don't it's pretty much like he transferred to any other school.

Nah, it's still weird.

Of all the gin joints in all the world, he managed not to stumble out of our back yard.

Notre Dame, I understand. UNC? Just say 'no'.

Yup...does he just want to get worse on that defense??

I wish him all the best and hopes he does well(personally not team wise), but I can't help but think about the DB that xfer'd there from us a few years ago and then never played.

Bryce watts i think. Then after UNC he wound up a UMass and then had a cup of coffee with the steelers

I saw this last night, and immediately went to the roster to look him up. He had already been removed from the list. I had to google to find his player page.

I just looked at the ESD Way Too Early Depth Chart post by brockman_148, and couldn't find his name there either.

Walk-On? Preferred Walk-On?

Wait, what?

His Hokiesports profile shows that he is a member of the team as of 2021, but he did not appear on the 2022 roster on Hokiesports for whatever reason that may be. There are several instances where I've discovered this is true for a player who played on the team. We don't even have a player profile for Jerod Evans somehow, and he's not listed on the 2016 roster. When you look up individual stats for Jerod for that season the link to his full bio is just a 404 error.

If we were talking about any site other than Hokiesports - where I expect minimal functionality, to put it nicely - I would say this is next level pettiness from Fuentes and staff for leaving early, LOL.

Wait, what?

How is hokiesports so so bad? I mean it's not like VT wrote the site, 80% of D1 teams use the same back end code for their sites. The roster views are terrible. The information changes just about every time I go there. It sucks.

In "The Numbers Always Work Out" category, Danijel Miletic is apparently leaving VT to play professionally in Germany (where he is from was playing when he was recruited). [edit per Andy Bitter's tweet]

Wait, what?

Too bad, we need contributors on OL. If he couldn't crack the two deep this gives a shot to someone like Gunnar Givens who (according to twitter) is making the move over from DL this spring

got a link for that Givens news?

We are 3-8 because we have too many guys like this kid on the 85. Sorry it is what it is. He was a reach, a stretch, not a legit ACC recruit. When you have many of those, you don't win games. Pry needs to overhaul this roster in a big way. I almost cried watching the dudes on that PSU defense yesterday- big, fast, look like big time players. Pry is used to that- hopefully he demands that here.

Looking at the '20 and '21 recruiting classes and the top recruits have left. While I still think there are diamonds in the rough out there, no one is finding 4-5 a class, if you get 1 a year it would be amazing. We need a lot of players quick. I would expect a number of 4th quarter leads to be lost this coming year to just because there still isn't depth.

Its A 3-4 year re-build. Not only did we recruit bad, we recruited uneven- which is a killer. I just hope that in year 4 Pry is not making boneheaded decisions that leave Whit (or whomever is AD then) no choice in the matter like Scott Frost. Pry needs time, and I hope stupid in game decisions don't seal his fate.

Oh I agree, this year's team had talent guys on it that graduated. We just saw what having no depth and poor offensive scheme looks like, were about to see what two years of absolutely terrible recruiting looks like, though the transfer portal should help ease that pain.

My expectations are equally low for next year. We aren't beating Pitt, we aren't beating FSU, Rutgers is a toss-up at best, we will look like dogshit in Chesnut Hill, etc. I just hope we can beat ODU- might be too much to ask apparently. That's where I am. Would not be surprised to lose to Marshall, Cuse, or Louisville- at all. UVA is still a dumpster, and Purdue lost all their good players and their coach. I don't see a bowl in 23 honestly.

After going 3-8 hope and objectivity are hard to come by, but this team lost three games by one score which could equate to one Key Play per game. Three games that go our would have maked our record 6-5. That's not amazing, but it's also not hopeless.

There are few things more objective regarding VT football over the last 30 years than struggling at BC and against Pitt anywhere. Pair that with a transitioning, young, and not top heavy talented roster and objectively those games are losses or toss ups at best. Florida State will be a top 10 team to start the year and we play them in Tally. Are there any objective hokies that are going to chalk up ODU as a sure win? You see where I am going. This is a 3-4 year build for Pry.

It is also going to be a growing and developing time for Pry as well as the team. First time head coach, shoved into the spotlight at a relatively big time (P5 at least) program. I think he was a better head coach after finally handing off the DC duties in the last game. Now he should be able to spend a little more time with the offense and game planning.

this team lost three games by one score which could equate to one Key Play per game

You're also not considering the times the ball (literally and figuratively) bounced our way. If you look at Bill Connelly's Post Game Win Expectancy (row 1555 on tab 'post game win expectancy), you'll see that VT 'should have' won against NC State (~60%) and ODU (~75%), but we also 'should have' lost to Liberty (~30%).

You look at teams that get 'lucky' and win all the close games (2021 MSU and 2019 Louiseville come to mind), you almost always see a regression to the mean the following year.

What I'm trying to say is, at this point of the rebuild, there's not much of a difference between 3-8 and 5-6. It's really just about getting the right guys in the program, and developing them. If we do that, the wins will come eventually.

At this point, I just want a clear and somewhat effective offensive identity (to match our defensive identity).

Twitter me

They are going to try the quick fix with the QB kid from Baylor- meaning- let him run around and make plays with his legs until the offense is top 100. That's how bad our offense is. So for next year they are going to try to steal a game or 2 with him running around. QB makes a huge difference in college football.

Totally agree. Just watched Utah and thought, 'they are a quarterback driven program'. Once Rising went out, they shit the bed bigtime. We have a LOT of work to improve the roster.

I hate rude behavior in a man. Won't tolerate it.

one click shows Wagoneer's been around TKP for 7 years. Sheesh. Everyone take a nap, have a snickers or something.

I was talking to a UVA fan yesterday. He was jealous that we got Pry. He thought that Pry would grow into the role and be better in year 2, 3. He said UVA fans (apparently there are a couple) thought they were getting a complete guy in Elliot and have found out he had issues in his closet that hadn't seen a lot of daylight yet.

I don't know anyone who thinks highly of Elliott as a football coach.

Twitter me

He absolutely wrecked Armstrong's draft stock. Really makes you start thinking Clemson's success and Elliott's time there was more about the talent and less about coaching acumen. I think he just learned to run a copy of Morris' offense and only the Clemson way of doing things. Rude awakening when you don't have talent to cover up for deficiencies.

Ungiallei- or however you spell it- also got worse under Elliott.

Agree about that defense. They were balls out, and much, much bigger than we have been used to. Really would love to have some of that here.

Damn, was hoping Givens would stay on the OL- he's got a nasty streak to him

You mean move back? He was a DL this year. But I think everyone but him knows OL is where he should be.

Frankfurt Galaxy?

I may have to try and catch one of their games. I'll be sure and wear VT colors for it.

Jason Brown to Jackson State

Good for him. Get that play time somewhere. Always glad he came here even if we ended up not needing him.

So with all of the WR transfers incoming, I'm assuming we'll see some of our current WRs enter the portal once spring ball is done?

Before that and not just WRs- more attrition coming, by design. Pry had a year to evaluate guys, see them in games. He also had some kids get injured we did not see. There will be several more coming and not just obscure names.

Some of the players might have earned, you get another year, make me change my mind on you stance.

Agreed, but we need to trim some folks- primarily because we are not done portal hunting ourselves. We need a couple more DL- desperately

I always worry when people say plays we'd know because if Thomas and Kimg are healthy they are decent P5 backs and we don't have many of those. The rest I care about are freshman that got playing time so u assume they are coming back if we were playing them.

I'm not sure how to update the table, but Mattheus Carroll to Kent State. Keshon Artis to Campbell I believe too.

Dang I might have to go watch some Camels games....I honestly didn't even know they had a team. They are about an hr from me used to live closer and drive past campus all the time. Would love for VT Basketball to play a game down here so I can go see.

And there is it

Gotta think he see's Thomas and Tuten, as the 1 and 2 backs which limits his reps, going into next year. Honestly if Thomas had stayed healthy he would have gotten even less reps than he did when he was healthy.

Would have liked to have seen him stay but I'm sure he's seeking somewhere where he believes he'll get more touches this year. All the best to him.

"I want to punch people from UVA right in the neck." - Colin Cowherd

Eh, is Tuten even there yet? If so he's been to what, like 3 conditioning workouts max?

Even so he'd be in the running for top 3 and injuries happen all the time. Thinking maybe he's getting recruited by someone else or there's some other reason he's leaving

I mentioned this briefly in the other thread, but every time Pry was asked about the running backs room this offseason, he never mentioned KeShawn. It was always 'Malachi and Chance' or 'Thomas and Duke'. There's was some speculation on the interwebs at the time that this was because King was not coming back. In hindsight, it feels like King had decided to/was encouraged to leave, and the Tuten pick up was in response to that.

Twitter me

Yeah that's an interesting point. Perhaps King talked about transferring some and Pry asked if he was willing to stay if they couldn't get a replacement and once they got Tuten on board King transferred. Like maybe "I want to transfer but I won't leave you high and dry coach..." I don't know.
