WBB vs Pitt Jan 19 at 6 PM

Your #12 Hokies visit Pitt tonight at 6 PM. According to HokieSports.com, the game will be available on ACCNx, also known as watch ESPN or ESPN3. Pitt is not good this year. They have won 6 games against the softer part of their schedule; they have lost to anyone decent, including going 0-6 in the ACC.

Pitt does not have much height. 6'2" #22 Gabby Hutcherson is the tallest player on the team; but they are experienced. They start two seniors, two juniors and a sophomore. They start four forwards and one guard; but the rest of the team is all guards with the exception of 6'2" forward Cynthia Ezeja who has only played in 4 games for a total of 14 minutes. Nine different players have started a game this season and 11 players play significant minutes. I'm guessing the coach is trying to find a mix that works; so far he does not seem to have found a good mix.

Pitt does not make many threes; they average about 6 a game and shoot only 32.5% from three. Of the 11 players who see regular minutes only Malcolm at 43.9% shoots over 36% from beyond the arc. They only slightly better overall shooting 41.6%. Only two players average double digits: Liatu at 11.4 ppg and Brown at 10.6 ppg. As a team they only score 66.8 points per game(only 61.3 in ACC play). In ACC play only Brown is scoring in double digits(14.2).

I am still hoping for Kitley to get a triple-double this year. This may be an opportunity. She should have no trouble getting to 10 points and 10 rebounds. Hopefully, the Hokies can get the game under control early and she can concentrate on passing out to the guards or to a cutting Soule for assists. The last time I asked for this, the other players did not do their part by making the open shots.

Unless the ladies have an off night, the only excitement in this game should be whether anyone will have a personal best.

LET'S GO HOKIES!
