If by a hot take you mean absurd. Star Wars is one of the most important and groundbreaking movies in history, and Empire Strikes Back is widely regarded as somehow actually improving on in. They both hold up amazingly well even 40+ years later.
The Mandalorian is a well-done and fun TV show. But better than the movies that set the standard for science fiction for decades? Please pass me the bottle of whatever you all are drinking.

I would argue it's still a Star Wars series, not simply "set in".
It's an amazing depiction of what's going on in that massive universe that doesn't involve laser swords and a few heroes.
When a story can make the Empire look more compelling, competent, menacing, and straight up evil then when they were straight up blowing up planets...it's a Star Wars series.

The Mandalorian and Andor...are better than any of the actual SW 9 main movies.
AGREED
ESB is right there
Maybe it's because I was born years after RotJ, and knew that Vader was Luke's father before ever seeing the movies, but I never thought ESB was that great. It felt incomplete and that always irritated me. Probably why RotJ is my favorite of the movies.

Darn tooting i did. Filoni/Favreau doing some heavy lifting to contextualize for casual fans what we assume will be the major plot of Ahsoka later on this year

Yes, the purrgil. They are basically hyperspace-enabled space whales and they play a key role in rebels -- and to this point, have only appeared in rebels
edit: rebels is absolutely worth watching. art style is different and the story takes a little bit to get into, but boy are the highs of that show VERY high and it does help build lore of mandalorian culture
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
There was a moment when the wife and I were watching this and we saw the outlines to the Space Whales in hyperspace and it took a bit for us to connect them. Not gonna lie at first we thought it was a reference to the space whales in Doctor Who and I was confused, yet excited, at the cross-over. Then I remember the purrgil from Rebels.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
They are whale creatures that travel through Hyperspace and I think are force sensitive (somebody double check me on that), so they're rarely seen. In Star Wars Rebels: the main character (Ezra) summons them in the finale and he and the main villain get sucked away by them somewhere into hyperspace.
Rumors are that the plot of the Ahsoka show will be Ahsoka and some other characters from Rebels trying to find Ezra
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think it's more that any living thing that can navigate hyperspace is force-connected to a degree. Canon thrawn trilogies seem to confirm that, so i was wrong. Initially i was thinking Ezra bonded with them the way he bonded with the Loth Wolves (and like how weve seen grogu "tame" animals like the mudhorn, rancor, etc)
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm pretty sure he's force connected. there would be no reason for the purrgil to do what they did when the took Thrawn unless Ezra was connected and made it happen.

A lot of the more recent SW shows they've been debuting with double episodes, so it was especially jarring when this new season just had a standard 1 episode (30 min) debut.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I also would have loved for it to be twice as long, yet it does some really good contextualizing after such a long time since S2 ended
reinforces Din's drive to atone for removing his helmet (or establishes it for those who skipped BOBF), reinforces the Darksaber's importance to Mandalore and specifically what it meant to Bo-Katan, illustrates the Nevarro revival and sets the stage for conflict there. From what we've seen in the trailer, could the Mandalorian covert find a home in Nevarro to protect them from the pirates? perhaps most importantly, it retcons the existence of Babu Frik
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Good episode. While not groundbreaking it does effectively set the course for S3 and I feel like we as the audience have direction on where this is headed. Also I continue to love the Wild West influences (shootout at the Greef Karga Saloon).

I enjoyed the episode, especially the hyperspace critters bit.
I also really enjoyed that they showed hyperspace taking time. The last three movies really implied this idea of instant hyperspace travel which causes all sort of story problems if distance is meaningless and didn't align really well with how it was portrayed elsewhere in Star Wars.
My only real gripe is that the pirates felt bolted on. Kind of wish there had been a little more setup to that (both school and space). I get the feeling it will pay off later though.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm with GGC on this one about the pirates. I don't think we've seen the last of Gorian "Mossface" Shard and his merry band of miscreants, but I will admit they felt "old school stormtrooper inept" both on Nevarro and in space.

Excellent episode, so many developments. Grogu defeating an enemy, showing responsibility in a task to get help, overcoming fears and working with BK. Mythosaur. Mandalore is breathable. Peli Motto speaking Jawaese!!!!!

The context: Mandalore in the Clone Wars Era was ruled by Dutchess Satine Kryze (Bo Katan's older sister, and Obi-Wan's love interest) who had a pacifist, nonviolent, nonpartisan stance on The Clone Wars -- neutrality to a fault. The pacifist ways were an overcorrection to previous inter-clan violence that was laced into Mandalorian history.
Some radicals, The Death Watch (later becoming known as Children Of The Watch), effectively became terrorists in trying to push Mandalore back into warrior ways from its nonviolent, neutral-to-a-fault stance. Bo-Katan was one of them, once upon a time
Darth Maul recognized the power of Mandalorian warriors, and Death Watch aligned themselves with Maul's Shadow Collective during the tail end of the Clone Wars era in an attempt to fully overthrow Mandalore. These events are shown in S7 of The Clone Wars animated series.
The answer to the your question: After the Clone Wars ended, Mandalore did not agree to fall in line under Palpatine. He decided that total destruction was necessary. So far, that has not really been explicitly shown in tv/movie canon (i am unsure of any books or graphic novels), aside from flashbacks and references and explicitly shown aftermath (as in this episode).
Why is there fake news? Probably to keep the mandalorians scattered and fighting with each other rather than forming into a unified fighting force to be reckoned with. Keeps them "the example" of the empire's might and retribution.
Fully recommend The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series to get into the details of the Manda-lore.

Okay, what's the timeline (relative to the movies) for all this? I thought Darth Maul dies at the end of Phantom Menace and the Clone wars are between Episode 2 and 3?
Also, presumably (based on Boba Fett's aging throughout all the episodes) there's about 50ish years between Episode 1 and the start of the Mandalorian? Bo Katan looks like she's at most 40, how old was she when she ruled?
Finally - how did Palpatine destroy Mandalor? If the planet is still there, he clearly didn't use the death star.
Fully recommend The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series to get into the details of the Manda-lore.
Sigh... I just can't get into the animated TV series. They just feel like I'm watching children's cartoons. I've tried and just shut them off after 5 minutes. Have a 2nd kiddo joining the fam in July, maybe this will be my boredom TV until CFB season starts...

oh my sweet summer child
I just can't get into the animated TV series.
all im going to say is that the style of the animated shows may be childish, but man some of the themes and episodes are HEAVY. Even The Bad Batch (also recommend, S2 airing now) has a lot of grappling with what it means to be human etc.
Between The Clone Wars and Rebels, the characters are compelling. Ahsoka's introduction and coming of age to become imo the most compelling character in-universe, seeing Anakin's heartbreaking and slow descent as the second most-compelling character in-universe, and the entire story arc of Maul as the next-most compelling character
[Edit: imo, the final arc of S7 of The Clone Wars is the perfect interplay of the stories of these three characters, and until Andor came out, S7 of The Clone Wars was my pick for "best Star Wars content". It's THAT good imo]
Bo Katan looks like she's at most 40, how old was she when she ruled?
BK late 40s now, i'd have to check on her actual timeline
Finally - how did Palpatine destroy Mandalor? If the planet is still there, he clearly didn't use the death star.
Rebels explores an imperial weapon that is effective even against Beskar, but that was prior to the destruction of Mandalore. Newest ep of Mando says "fusion bombs". The destruction of mandalore hasn't been explicitly shown or exposited, just alluded to and the aftereffects shown.

Andor is the best SW content in ages but to me S7 of clone wars is the best since the original trilogies. The story alone is brutal but told so well it's perfection. But in order to fully appreciate season 7 you need to watch the whole series to emotionally invest in the characters before season 7. Pretty sure the weapons hinted in rebels is probably how the empire did it but I'm not sure on the timeline there is all.

I suppose technically getting cut in half, but the wound being cauterized immediately, your main functions of life (heart, brain, lungs, central nervous system in general) would still continue to function for a time.
The shock would kill you of course, but if you were an extremely powerful space wizard...I can buy it.

Do yourself a favor and watch clone wars and rebels and you will learn Maul was a bad bad man who played a big role in the clone wars and beyond. Even makes a cameo in solos movie as well.
He might be my true favorite villain in SW after all the clone wars arcs. He figured out so much as was devastatingly powerful.

I would assume putting the two (three) of them together for the season will have big effects on what happens with Bo-Katan and the hardline Mandolorian faction, and what she does with the mythosaur information.
Also, I don't think it was a throwaway line when she said that was "way too many for an Imperial warlord". A certain blue alien perhaps

with a plan to use TIE Interceptors (!) to chase Bo Katan away from the bombers carrying out their mission to hit the (current) place of most importance to her (!) and then draw her into an expertly devised trap (!)
that's high key of way more galactic importance (aka Star Wars Cinematic Universe) than BK-Din-Grogu becoming a de facto family. Even any news on Moff Gideon is very small potatoes comparatively

That was good stuff. It started strong and ended strong. Admittedly the plot with the doc wasn't entirely captivating until the end, but I'm now very curious where that's going to lead.
And it's always great to see Coruscant.

Yeah the comms officer had me sketched out af really quickly and at no point did i buy the friendliness... but why exactly is she up to what she's up to? Apparently we are watching the beginnings of the shift from New Republic to First Order
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'll be honest the whole story with the doc and the comms officer might be one of the weaker bits of storytelling this show has had.
It was obvious immediately that she was up to something, and helping the New Republic was not it. But there were also no hints or clues as to what it actually was. I'm assuming she resisted whatever they did at the reintegration camps, and she's still making moves for Moff Gideon, and is just really good at pretending. Wiping the doc's brain completely would certainly be a good start to hiding what else the remnants of the Empire are up to.

I dug this week's episode. I really like seeing glimpses of the "everyday" life in SW universe so those scenes just walking around Coruscant were awesome. Also getting some perspective on what people and the New Republic were up to post Empire cool too
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm of two minds on this week's episode (which I enjoyed quite a bit).
1. The story with the remnants of the Empire acquiring cloning technology was interesting as a Star Wars fan.
2. Much like Book of Boba Fett spent an entire episode on Mando side stories, this episode really felt like it didn't belong in the current (very exciting) storyline and pulled me out of it. Hopefully it will still connect like BoBF did.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
i think the connective tissue with both of your points is just how much the show runners in this series are using it as a vehicle to try and contextualize the (awful) sequel trilogy. There needs to be some sort of stage set for how the New Republic turns into the First Order, there needs to be some sort of explanation for whatever tf Snoke was (clone experiment?), there needs to be some sort of explanation for the "somehow" that caused palpatine's return etc etc etc
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
To clarify, the New Republic doesn't "turn into" the First Order. The context of the The Force Awakens is that the New Republic doesn't take the First Order seriously, hence Leia establishing the Resistance. The First Order literally obliterates the New Republic with Starkiller Base to destroy the Hosnian system (nerd alert)
The movie did a shit job of giving any context for all of that, but the two are separate entities. It's more likely they are laying the groundwork for how the Imperial remnants become the First Order.

I thought this episode was meh, but not great. The intro and outro were fine, but the bit in the middle suffered from a lot of things I think.
I don't mind the side story or the premise of it, but my main gripes were:
the music, especially in the wander around the city section, felt really generic and canned. Like video game loop music
There are not nearly enough people on Coruscant. Every place feels empty. Thats fine in some shots, but everything felt that way
The acting in the whole sequence felt wooden. No one really seemed to have any emotions about anything. The dialog really didn't help this
On the plus side, the duplication of the droid interview section worked really well. The whole idea of the reintegration program and how it is flawed works fine story-wise. The concept sketches in the credits showed a much better look/feel than the sets we got, costumes too. I think this is first time I can recall where the end credit images differed so significantly from what we got in the show.

Amen - my criteria is "did I enjoy this?" and it's usually a yes.
I loved TFA and TLJ (we shalt not speak of Ep 9). Love Mando, Rebels and thought Andor was the best thing I've seen on Disney+. Can't wait for Ahsoka and I'm super intrigued with Acolyte.

After BK saves DD, she ass him if he saw anything alive in the water. She was very interested in this. Feels like foreshadowing, and/or context I'm missing?
Are we supposed to know who this doctor is? He seems vaguely family but I don't recall.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
1) She wanted to know if he saw the Mythosaur, which is the creature she saw when she rescued him at the end of the last episode. It could (likely will) have implications going forward because one of the legends says the person who can tame the Mythosaur will the leader of all the Mandalorian people. She already lost the Darksaber, which is another way to be the leader, that's why it might factor in later.
2) He's the doctor from season 1 that was leading the clone research whose Imperial remnant outfit was trying to capture Grogu.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I think they intentionally left it a little vague. One hand, its like you said, maybe she wasn't quite sure she saw what she actually saw. On the other, she knows its the Mythosaur and wants to keep it to herself so she can use it to reclaim control of the Mandalorian people.

I know this is a wild, science fiction universe with hyperspace travel and mind control but the idea of jumping off the back of a speeding train and landing safely on a soft stack of cloth made me audibly groan. There *has to be* a better way to write their exit from the train.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I didn't like that whole sequence. So the "plan" was to hope the droids didn't come around to check tickets until late enough that you were by the first station and it was "slowing"...but still going fast as hell?

You do realize that Pershing was being set up from the start, right? Everything Elia did was to get the doctor caught so she could get him into that machine. Yeah, it was stupid because Pershing was gullible and needed to get that bit of thrill and overconfidence. This was a sting operation and the Coruscant police(?) were in on the whole thing.

Good episode, not great. Some necessary plot development to set up Bo-Katan ultimately leading the Mandalorians I think. I did enjoy that they brought the 3 baby raptors back as Foundlings.
Favorite part by far was Grogu flashing back to Order 66. We've seen that on screen so many times now, but that perspective was one of my favorites. And the Smith making armor for him, and the same Mudhorn crest as Mando, was cool
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Plus filling in the question of the Jedi who saved him, who was played by the same guy who played Jar Jar and got a lot of hate for it.
Edit: another big thing imo is the continued inclusion of scenes that show grogu having some disposition to control animals/wildlife. It's not just whimsy, feels purposeful
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Lots of prequel vibes from that moment to jar jars actor playing the savior Jedi along with the naboo cruiser as well. Curious for more of Grogus background on who and how he escaped and id love some why he was deemed a big necessity to save from order 66.

It did seem he had more "security" than the younglings they showed in Revenge of the Sith who were just hiding, but maybe that's just where everyone one was when the attack came. (?)
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Also, loved the father/son vibes through the episode. Mando just saying "hey kid you got this" in effect during the training was great. But tying that into the fact that the young one they were rescuing being the son, that's good writing. It helps future things that I feel like are going to happen make sense
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I too loved the father/son vibes. Especially Paz having his son kidnapped and being like "Nah, its cool. We'll just camp here for the night. No rush. I'm sure he won't die or anything"
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Interesting if we will see a return to Naboo and if that is where he was initially hidden after order 66....
Kelleran Beq
"The Foundling" finally reveals who rescued Grogu during Order 66: Jedi Master Kelleran Beq, a character introduced on a kids' game show of all places called Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge.
Kelleran is also played by Ahmed Best, the actor who portrayed Jar Jar Binks in the prequel trilogy. Best has previously opened up about the fact that he received so much hatred for playing Jar Jar, a divisive character, that he contemplated suicide. Almost 25 years later, though, Star Wars fans celebrated his return to the franchise.
And the return of Jar Jar himself could potentially be around the corner. Kelleran mentions he's bringing Grogu to friends of his, and he's aided by security forces from Naboo, Jar Jar's homeworld.

At the end of "The Convert," Dr. Pershing tells a Mon Calamari doctor that "it was a trap," which sure seems like an intentional reference to Admiral Ackbar's infamous "it's a trap" line from Return of the Jedi.

I'm with you. I love the dark HBO-ification of TV these days, but sometimes I want a show I can just watch without the fear of missing a crucial detail if I step away to take something out of the oven. It's just a fun watch, and I'm here for it.

Ah yes, but the Reddit mob ignores the fact that it was stolen from the Jedi and by their logic, still belongs to Tarre Vizsla (which can be explained by his house owning it, which is fine). They also ignore that Ezra just picked it up when he took ownership briefly. Then when Sabine takes it, it's because she's a member of the original house in the first place. Then suddenly Gideon says it's a trial by combat weapon. It's almost as if this is all made up and adjusts to fit the shows.

Yeah I wouldn't even say implies. I thought it's been quite clear that you have to actually challenge the holder of the Darksaber directly in order to be recognized with authority for having it.
Didn't Bo-Katan take it when it was offered before, and that ended in disaster? It's why she doesn't take it when Din offers it to her in the show, and gives it back to him freely after he recovers.

I liked the episode (particularly the end), but I hope we've seen the last of Captain Feathersword and the rest of the Wiggles army. That bit was painful, but more or less necessary.
Diving deeper into Mando history and culture is awesome, and a great setup for future episodes.

I didn't love the episode, but it was exactly that...just some good old campy sci fi fun.
Jack Black, Lizzo, and Christopher Lloyd in an episode of a Star Wars show!? Yes please. Grogu Force flipping into Lizzo's arms. Why not! And Bryce Dallas Howard continues to do a great job directing these "one off" episodes of you want to call them that. She did the Frog Lady one as well and I believe one other.
It actually reminded me of a non canon SW book where the main threat is a villian named Death's Head who plans to have an entire planets worth of droids explode at the same time.

Because the transitive property wouldn't have worked at the end of last season.
Seriously though, I'm cool with how it went down. Din has clearly never been interested in possessing it, as demonstrated by the fact that he struggled to actually even lift it. Bo-Katan defeated that droid/bug/whatever with relative ease with it.
As an audience, we needed to buy why him giving it to her worked within the rules the show has established.

As a curious audience I wonder why they bothered writing it that way just to resolve it so quickly and easily. They still got me with the show in not going anywhere lol.

I feel like a lot of the guest stars have come across less like a character in the story and more like the actor appearing as themselves in costume, if that makes sense.

I wonder if that could be that there are soooo many Star Wars fans that they mention wanting to be involved in a possible story line then get a small part and they turn into a little kid going to Disney World and dressing up as their favorite character.

Yeah, I never understood what his motive was supposed to be. He is programming them to go crazy so they can... what? Get the droids shut down? Get revenge? Bring back the Empire? Have a day off?

The show right now.... I dunno something about this week's episode didn't do it for me. Can't really explain why, just felt like it fell flat, and the more I think about it, the whole season is starting to feel a bit hollow. Unless things seriously change in the next few episodes, I don't think this season is going to be remembered as fondly as the first couple.

One thing that has surprised me this season is how disappointing the loss of Ludwig Goransson has been. Sure they are still using his themes but there's some secret sauce that Ludwig has that used to keep me really hooked with just the music alone. I used to be a band geek in high school so I am always very interested and aware of scores.

I want to be excited by this, but it just left me "meh." You know that part in end game where instead of having the female characters just be badass because they were, they had this awkward "we don't need no man. rah rah girl power" flea flicker scene in the fight against Thanos? Same vibes.

(this is only through 3 seasons if I recall correctly)
The Indictor seemed roughly the same size as an Imperial I-Class Star Destroyer, according to the Wiki those have over 37,000 crewmembers, and an additional 9,700 Stormtroopers. Which makes a total of just under 47,000 people.
Add the crew of the two Imperial Light Cruisers, and I'd say that's at least 50,000 kills.
...
The total tally is 19 confirmed & direct kills, 49,997 estimated indirect kills using sabotage, and 20 estimated kills using explosives.
He also killed 3 fellow Astromechs, and one other droid. He also tried to kill Erza twice, and suggested infanticide once.
However, if you're really into Droids killing people, and prefer things a bit more brutal, check out Star Wars #36.

Typical Disney bait and switch. Episode 7: come see Han Solo! and he's a deadbeat dad and dies. Episode 8: Luke Returns! and he's a sulking loser who dies. Episode 9: It's Palpatine!? Never mind, it's a farce trying to fix the previous two movies. A series about a Mandalorian warrior with a baby Yoda?! Great start, and now they're replaced by Bo Katan as the central character(s). An Obi Wan Kenobi series! and he's a wimp and the show is really about Reva hunting him and clashing with her bosses. Color me unimpressed Disney. Loved Andor and the gritty, harsh empire versus the fledgling rebellion. Jack Black and Lizzo? Please, never again. Fire that casting agent.

Sorry to hear that Star Wars has caused you so much anxiety for what sounds like the better part of 8 years. Hopefully the next batch of titles will be more to your liking!
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
No anxiety my fellow Hokie, just disappointment that Disney decided to depreciate and then kill off the SW heroes of my youth. I didn't even touch on how Boba Fett was a ghost of his former fearsome self. Just don't like what Disney has been doing with the exceptions of Rogue One and Andor (so far). Respecting and building on the source material (including the Expanded Universe that Disney chucked in the trash from the get-go) would have been the way to build on the foundation that Lucas created. Instead, Disney chose to crap on my three favorite characters (Han, Luke and Leia) and then create movies that are illogical based on the foundation Lucas created, and at times, it's just just lame entertainment. I have loved Star Wars since I first saw episode 4 in the summer of 77, and I had high hopes that the resources and energy of Disney would boost the franchise to new heights, but Disney is failing on so many levels now that I can barely recognize what they are making as Star Wars. Jack Black and Lizzo? Really?! GTFOOH with that insulting crap.

This is where there's a disconnect for me between my opinion and yours. Sounds like your main gripes are with the sequel trilogy and how they are trying to clean it up with the shows (esp the animated ones) that are set in the interim.
Hard to watch clone wars, rebels, mando, the bad batch (and now seeing the ahsoka trailer) and not get excited about them DEFINITELY leaning on the expanded universe and recanonizing key elements and characters over time.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Oh I completely agree that the Clone Wars, Rebels and Bad Batch were well done. Lucas and then Dave Filoni were working well within the framework that Lucas created from episodes 1-3. Mando started great but season three has been, well, awkward. Mandolorian is now hemorrhaging viewers this season and it's easy to see why. The fact that Disney has announced that they are bringing back Daisy Ridley, who I like as an actress, as the person to resurrect the Jedi Order in the next movie following episode 9 is just blasphemous to the Luke Skywalker story that Lucas created. I suspect our perspectives are different due to age and experience with the whole SW franchise, but like you, I suspect we both hope for better days to come in the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

This is where I like to lean on what I think that's great about Star Wars: there's something here for everyone. For you it sounds like the OG trilogy is where it's at. I get that. I remember the dark days where all we had were three movies, a Christmas special (oof), books of various quality, and IIRC some Atari games. Now there's so much SW content it's crazy. Some people are really into the kids animated stuff (Resistance, Lego Star Wars, etc). Some people love them some prequels. Some of the youths out there love the hell out of the sequel trilogy (good on em I suppose).
For me I think the new Disney shows capture a lot of what Star Wars means to me, especially now that it seems like they're pulling from the Timothy Zahn books. It's not all great. Hell, some of it's not even good, but sometimes when I'm watching Mando I remember what it's like to be 11 years old in the basement of my parents' house watching ANH again and again.

My feeling is we will be back at this planet, and helping Christopher Lloyd. They'll be righting the excess of the regime in some way. Knighting of grogu will just be another excess in a long line of them.

Wow. A lot going on. Really good episode. I like how they are tying in this story to the sequel trilogy (although the characters and writing of this show and Andor are far superior)
Love that Paz Vizla went out like an absolute boss

Love that Paz Vizla went out like an absolute boss
Kind of a dumb absolute boss though. There's no reason he couldn't stand in the hole Bo Katan made and use his heavy gun to kill everyone and then just leave with everyone else.

It's gotta be the Mandalorians that show up in the skiff, right?
For starters, there's no logical way they could survive on the surface for the period of time that has elapsed since the glassing of Mandalore.
And them offering "we'll take you there" with the knowing nods to each other. If they knew exactly where the Great Forge was, they had to know there was an entire Imperial base there.
It would honestly just be bad writing if they are not the ones that were in on it.

Clear out to the fleet that Gideon activated his Interceptors and Bombers to destroy?
It will be a really interesting reveal for the finale no matter what. This episode went out of its way to remind us that there is no communication from orbit to the surface due to magnetic interference. But we know that's clearly not true, as Moff Gideon had no issue talking to his agent in Coruscant and then walking back into the shadow council meeting (with Hux's dad) and talking to them. He was on Mandalore during all of that, so he could have found out from a number of different sources.

My money is on The Armorer. She was more than happy to clear out before the ambush
There seems to be a lot of people that think that she was one of "the spies". It seems the show is playing it up a little bit as well so maybe they are just head faking us with that one.

I just don't see it. It would be some of the laziest writing I've ever seen to have the one person who sought to keep Mandalorian culture alive be the person to be seeking its end. They'd need to really do a sharp turn into "it's all because the cloning of Palps required Mandalore". Maul's followers wouldn't want the Imperials to win.

Every time people complain about how Star Wars has fallen apart or the dropped off in quality, I have to remind them (and myself) that Rogue One/Andor are the aberration and point at the dialog from the prequels (lots of other things too, but the dialog is enough on its own), the sequels, the ewok adventures, the Holiday Special, the sequels, etc.

Yep, there is a reason that my favorite all time SW entities (Empire, Rogue, Andor, Mando) were not written by Lucas. The man is a visionary, technical genius, and master of world building, but his weakness is dialogue and character drama.

the local mandos have to be involved. they are the ones that led them to the forge and it's not like Mof Gideon slipped in a subterranean lair complete with blast doors, shig hangar and Beskar armory without them noticing.

Regardless of the reveal of who betrayed them, I do like how they built up the reuniting of the clans that are loyal. That went down the standard path of "I was here when it happened" to "you can't make that move" to "bottles! knives! guns!" all in the same episode where the sacrifice happens to seal the bonding.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Well that certainly escalated quickly. My guess is the resident mandos sold bo katan and her party out to moff. Gotta imagine something from earlier in the season comes forward to either save the day or leave us hanging. Dare i say we get an Ashoka or Ezra return as possibly thrawn makes his entry after moff claims he's never returning? Either way brilliant show as always.
Am I the only one that enjoys the credits art as much as the show?

I'm kind of hoping that in the last episode, Gideon escapes having wrecked whatever thing he can, but then he is suddenly cut off by a victory class Star destroyer that obliterates his ship. Camera cuts to the bridge to a very calculating, very blue man

Took all I had to not say anything when I overhead someone at lunch saying pas vizla was the snake in the grass. That man redeemed his family and himself saving everyone else, now the hunt for his son comes full circle.

The more I am reading the more I am hearing people theorizing that Din is going to die in this episode. There are a lot of tea leaves pointing in that direction and even the creators are saying that this finale is going to hit a lot of people really hard.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That is particularly true, since this thing is supposed to wrap up the whole story with a Filioni directed Mandalorian movie. Could it be Bo Katan that dies? Either way, feels like a major character death is being set up for the S3 finale.

MG's quote about being able to take something from everyone (the Jedi, the Mando's, etc) could be foreshadowing for Grogu being 'the one' (or whatever they call it in star wars)?
Everyone assuming that the mythasore will be tamed by Bo katan, but the opportunity is there for anyone, no? And grugo
IDK I'm not deep into star wars lore, but I like speculating 🤷♂️

While I agree with you that who the "Mandalorian" that's the most important actually is could certainly be Grogu. This season has made a point of showing him becoming one more and more.
But in my opinion, the interaction and relationship between Din and Grogu IS the show. Are there other characters that are compelling? Absolutely. Would it be half as interesting without the two of them on their adventures? Absolutely not.
And frankly I like Pedro Pascal so much I don't want him to become Sean Bean 2.0 where he bites it in every good thing he's in (I apologize if I just spoiled Equilibrium for everyone)

Ideally, I agree. Ending the show after a three season run if Din dies feels like the right call, but it's Disney. They know how to milk a cow far longer than they should.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
A part of me knows someone is going to die sooner or later here, but it feels like there is sooooo much story left to tell with all these characters and that we'd be robbed of so much if the writers default to "character death is easy ratings".

I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. You want to talk about good writing, having Moff Gideon say that line about wanting to incorporate the Force into his clones, tying it back to why Mando was hired to get Grogu in the first place and starting all of this including his eventual downfall.
I'm also glad that went with the choice to have the little guy use the force in an effective but subdued way. He's just now really learning how to harness his ability. Previous folks that handled SW would probably have had him go full on Yoda, Attack of the Clones style. We would have seen the kid Darksabering those Praetorians.
And I'm fully on board with gobble's theory that Grogu and the mythosaur are the ones that will have the connection, as it was explicit that he could sense it and it could sense him.
Just a lot of really good moments. And then to end it with providing a perfectly logical reason for the two of them to go back on adventures, and specifically hunting Imperial remnants now. They are lining up all the stories with intent.

what i would have liked: a little more "oh no Din Djarin is taken and nobody knows where Grogu/IG-12 is" tension at the beginning, more armourer combat
what I would have liked to have seen: Moff Gideon's body. Was that just an advanced clone prototype?
what i really liked: Ragnar Vizsla getting his baptism after a whole season and losing his dad (again?) with an interesting omission on the helmet rule this time.
what i'm curious about: whether the show that was supposed to be "Rangers of the New Republic" starring Gina Carano is going to be repurposed into next-phase Mando, how income as an independent contractor is taxed in the New Republic, what happens with Elia Kane in Coruscant, what happens with the Dark Saber (totally kaput? rebuild by Grogu?)

It feels like the entire series the fuel in the jet packs lasts exactly as much as needed for dramatic effect. I can live with that.the whole logistics of the jet packs doesn't really make sense anyway, and it's just kinda one of those things where you go..."ok"
I did think the same about the TIEs. Maybe they all got shot down by the cruiser? But that was just kind of ignored
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's been my biggest gripe with this season. A lot of really good stuff, but some things seem like they needed a little more time in the oven. It feels sloppy.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Had the same thought on point one, but here's how I rationalized it. The dragon chase was impromptu and therefore most could not have had a full tank. Also they were living in a cave and could be rationing materials like fuel. Whereas, from the fleet they all were fully juiced and ready to soar. made sense ... somewhat
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
In addition to those two, it also bothered me that we saw Bo flying around and attacking with the darksaber slashing bad guys. But then on her approach to a distracted Moff Gideon, she..... puts the weapon away and does a flying punch/kick into him instead of giving him a big blindside attack? Seems like a lazy way to get to the 3v1 fight.
Also why would the imperial troopers leave fortified defensive positions and fly up into the mayhem of the approaching Mandalorians?

Solid episode was expecting some sizeable deaths or atleast something bad to happen but that was the total opposite. Enjoyable but like a lot of this season a bit short but still no real complaints. Are they renewing for another season or was that it? Kinda hoped we were gonna see Grogu find his parents whoever they are
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Grogu did find his parent. It's just that he looks like Pedro Pascal.
Favreau himself has already confirmed season 4. Makes sense with the ending bit about them taking jobs to hunt Imperial remnants.
I will watch in a heartbeat a buddy cop season of the two of them hunting down members of the Shadow Council right up until Thrawn arrives to tie this into Ashoka and the other shows/movie they have planned.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Is it weird that I don't want to see that? I feel like at this point I'm good on the DinGrogu adventures unless he starts talking. We have already seen them do the random stuff.
The little zoom in pinhole signoff or whatever almost makes me think they wanted you to think a portion of that story is over.
And Segway, but if Yoda was 900 ish when he died, grogue is 50 something? Yoda trained Jedi for 800 years and something? He must go from infant to pretty much matured in the next 50 years.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I feel like there is still more story to tell. We know literally nothing about the Yoda/Grogu species other than everyone we've ever seen has been highly Force sensitive. Maybe the "if they're even still alive" comment about Grogu's parents line by the Armourer was more than just a setup for Djarin to adopt him.
The only thing we know for sure is that season 4 is happening. And the show runners have earned my trust enough to think it won't be just a series of "hunt of the week" stories with no bigger payoff.

So I did love this season, but for whatever reason I feel each season has been a little bit worse than the previous seasons. This does make me concerned that this could go the way of a show that originally was supposed to be 3 seasons but was successful so they started stretching it out.

Halfway through the final episode I realized the primary reason why I think this season fell flat for me... Too big
The scale of this season was too big. The huge mandalorian battle fell flat in the same way that the Infinity War battle kind of fell flat for me, too much CGI and shaky cam while trying to follow one too many storylines at the same time.
The first season's story was small and that kept it refined and it paid off. At this point we're probably one season away from Mando leading the rebel army against the Knights of Ren or whatever faction that Darth Maul is now leading and I'm not sure that this is for the best

Troof. Although it was great to see Mandalore reclaimed I do miss the Mando/Grogu adventures. It would be cool if next season can dial it back a bit and leave the bigger action pieces to any of the 400 other live-action SW shows.

I actually think as the season went on, there were a lot of small details suggesting a progression of his ability to get around just fine by himself. And I'm not talking about just his Force jumps and his nimbleness when avoiding the guards, although that's certainly part of it.
Watch that last scene where they go into the New Republic cantina. Grogu walks in in a way that we've never seen him do before. I made a mental comment about it. He's gone from his slow little shuffle to that, plus he can enhance his movement with the Force on top of that. Look at how Yoda could move and he was 900 years old. I think it's reasonable Grogu could get around just fine on his own as basically a litttle kid learning to walk and going from there.
Don't get me wrong, it was good action and comedic effect with his "Yes" "No" and utilizing the droids strength to help out. But I think it could be interesting to watch him operate alongside Din without having to float in his egg or some other device.

So what are we thinking about Moff Gideon's fate in the fireball? I assume that like every other star wars story line without a body he is going to have survived
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
The thing I saw noted last night online was this season's Moff Gideon did not have a moustache while in seasons 1 and 2 Gideon did have one. The clones did not have a moustache either. It may be that Giancarlo Esposito just decided not to have one this season but they also could be implying that the nuked Gideon was a clone. Don't know but it seems like they left an out for the actor to return.

So anyone else rewatching the last few seasons of rebels before Ashoka?
Also anyone read up on the theory that the girl who fried the doctors mind on coruscant was actually rubbing her belly like a pregnant woman would? Theory is she's carrying old palpy clone. That arc never made any sense and feels worthless still for nothing but filler episode unless they were cluing us in where season 4 is going

Started a rewatch of rebels right after the ahsoka trailer, finished S2 this week!
As far as the second part -- sure maybe she's pregnant. I dont think so, but sure. Even if she is, i think the Shadow Council scene made it clear that Gideon's cloning efforts were independent of "Project Necromancer". Since Kane is working for/with Gideon, it's unlikely she's carrying palpatine's clone or even an attempt at one

Starting rewatching rebels after the purgill made an appearance. Finished the 2nd season this weekend myself. And the first two of season 3. I had forgotten how much time advanced between S2 and S3. Also overall I had forgotten how force sensitive Ezra was with animals. I have thoroughly enjoyed Kanan's struggle with being a Jedi and with teaching Ezra.

This may be a hot take, and please don't down vote me for it but here goes:
The main issue right now with the Mandalorian and the other Dave Filloni produced shows is that they rely too much on his animated series characters. I have seen some criticism online from critics that say as much, that if you are not into the animated series that most of the reveals in these shows are not for you and you can get completely lost. I, like many other casual Star Wars fans, did not watch the anitmated series and do not want to go back and watch like 200 episodes of content just so I can understand what is going on in the series.
I think this is why I think Andor is by far superior to the Mandalorian.
Again, this is a bit of a hot take, and of course I end up coming here and getting filled in on what is going on with certain reveals by the rest of you so I have that. All I am saying is that it is frustrating watching a show I am already so invested in only for there to be so much about the show that is now lost on most viewers who did not watch the animated shows.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Idk, I have not and probably won't ever watch the animated series, but I'm still able to follow the Mandalorian pretty easily. I might not enjoy some of the easter eggs as much, but everything you need to know is featured in the show.
I think this is why I think Andor is by far superior to the Mandalorian.
IMO Mando is kind of classic Star Wars - it's not super complex, there's not a ton of depth to the characters, it's a fun action/sci-fi show.
Andor is just different. The characters are way deeper. There are shades of grey (as opposed to everything being black/white and good vs evil). Andor could stand 100% alone. The Mandalorian assumes basic knowledge of the Star Wars world (you should know what a Jedi is, what the Empire was, etc)
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
That's a great point. If you think about it, if Andor came out and there was literally nothing else Star Wars that existed, it would still be an awesome show. It wouldn't have to change anything, as it doesn't rely on the previous galaxy building to work as an entertaining watch. I would understand that the Empire is bad, a rebellion is brewing (and why), and the characters motivations from what the show gives us.
Granted, it's unlikely people are watching a show called Andor if it wasn't connected to SW, but you understand what I'm saying.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
Your hot take is a valid one. My hope is that all those characters that were introduced elsewhere end up holding their own in the SW live-action universe. That said I can definitely see where not having their backstory could be a hurdle.
I think this is why I think Andor is by far superior to the Mandalorian.
I love them both, but I think there are many reasons why Andor is superior to, well, most of Star Wars now that I think about it.
Log in or register to post comments about the Virginia Tech Hokies
I'm so happy we have both story lines right now, in addition to the sequels and the upcoming additional time periods. As a fan of Mando and its interconnected stories more than Andor's current story, it's great that folks have choices that are all great stories.

All things considered I really liked this season. Most episodes entertained me and it was gnarly to see Mandalore reclaimed. Yes, there were plot holes so big you can drive a Death Star through them, but such is Star Wars. I kept expecting there to be a reveal that someone was working for Muff Gideon and sold out the mandalorans but in the end we just got a really fun episode with a good payoff and I'm happy with that.

if you weren't a giant nerd in the '90s or 2000s, you knew none of that. Boba Fett was just a cool helmet guy with a gun. The word "Mandalorian" wasn't in your vocabulary.

This is the way.
This is the way.
Just finished andor last week. This is perfect timing!
Season premiere scratches even the itches i didnt know i had lol
The Mandalorian and Andor...are better than any of the actual SW 9 main movies. ESB is right there, but other than that...
That's because Andor isn't a Star Wars series.
It is a series that just happens to be set in the Star Wars Universe.
It's Blade Runner in the Star Wars universe.
This is how I see Mandalorian and Andor:
Mandalorian = Saturday morning cartoon
Andor = HBO Sunday night drama
Two entirely different shows, but I strongly prefer Andor
AGREED
Maybe it's because I was born years after RotJ, and knew that Vader was Luke's father before ever seeing the movies, but I never thought ESB was that great. It felt incomplete and that always irritated me. Probably why RotJ is my favorite of the movies.
I know my fellow Rebels fans got REAL excited when they were in hyperspace
Darn tooting i did. Filoni/Favreau doing some heavy lifting to contextualize for casual fans what we assume will be the major plot of Ahsoka later on this year
Are you guys referring to those giant hyperspace creatures that were moving alongside them?
Yes, the purrgil. They are basically hyperspace-enabled space whales and they play a key role in rebels -- and to this point, have only appeared in rebels
edit: rebels is absolutely worth watching. art style is different and the story takes a little bit to get into, but boy are the highs of that show VERY high and it does help build lore of mandalorian culture
Can you explain this to a fairweather starwars fan?
I'll take a stab.
Dont think they're inherently force sensitive but ezra did form some sort of connection to them. Don't remember if it was force-y or not
Ezra was force connected with them and used that connection to remove Thrawn.
I'm pretty sure he's force connected. there would be no reason for the purrgil to do what they did when the took Thrawn unless Ezra was connected and made it happen.
https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Purrgil if you want the deep dive on where they show up in the canon storyline
If we're gonna have giant alien alligators, I'm gonna need an alien Troy Landry yelling "Choot em!"
My biggest complaint about this show is that every episode feels like it ends about 5-10 mins too early.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, the show is excellent, it just always has a bit of a frustration when the end credits come up
This couldn't have been expressed any better. Watching that episode yesterday, I just wanted...more.
Every episode feels like it takes a few mins to really hit its stride, and once you're settled in, its just.... over
A lot of the more recent SW shows they've been debuting with double episodes, so it was especially jarring when this new season just had a standard 1 episode (30 min) debut.
Good episode. While not groundbreaking it does effectively set the course for S3 and I feel like we as the audience have direction on where this is headed. Also I continue to love the Wild West influences (shootout at the Greef Karga Saloon).
FTFY
Ok, IG crawling around with 1 arm was a total homage to the end of the original terminator. It even looked like stop motion.
I'm with GGC on this one about the pirates. I don't think we've seen the last of Gorian "Mossface" Shard and his merry band of miscreants, but I will admit they felt "old school stormtrooper inept" both on Nevarro and in space.
Inept definitely. But worse, just corny. Like Sleestak levels of corny.
Ya know, I can almost see it...
It's hard to be effective when you're bound by The Pirate's Code!
More Bo Katan and the mythosaur alive? Yes please, me likey!
Excellent episode, so many developments. Grogu defeating an enemy, showing responsibility in a task to get help, overcoming fears and working with BK. Mythosaur. Mandalore is breathable. Peli Motto speaking Jawaese!!!!!
After a fairly slow, table setting start in episode 1, they really kicked things off this week. That was great.
This episode felt less rushed than the first, and by that I mean it didn't feel like it ended 10 mins too early like so many before it.
That said, gotta love a good cliffhanger. Sets up for a great opening act next week.
Can someone give a background on why Mandalor is destroyed and why there's lots of fake news around it?
Sigh... I just can't get into the animated TV series. They just feel like I'm watching children's cartoons. I've tried and just shut them off after 5 minutes. Have a 2nd kiddo joining the fam in July, maybe this will be my boredom TV until CFB season starts...
oh my sweet summer child
all im going to say is that the style of the animated shows may be childish, but man some of the themes and episodes are HEAVY.
BK late 40s now, i'd have to check on her actual timeline
[Narrator]
Welcome to Star Wars, where getting cut in half and falling down an incredibly deep hole is just the beginning of a new chapter in your life! Cast off those silly lower extremities and replace them with cybernetics - hey that stuff worked for Vadar, right? Armed (or legged) with your new limbs and bucketful of hatred, you can venture forth to take over crime syndicates and even entire planets! And after all your galactic shenanigans are done, you can always return to the desert where apparently everything in the Star Wars universe begins and ends.
Hurry and sign up today! If you order now, we'll include another bonus life*, you just pay for shipping and handling.
* - or a spurtle, depends on inventory.
57 min total run time this week should squash some of those complaints. Verrrrry interesting developments!
Holy crap, that opening sequence. All I've had a chance to see so far
in terms of "omg the implications here", that opening scene is UP THERE in this series
Also getting some perspective on what people and the New Republic were up to post Empire cool too
I'm of two minds on this week's episode (which I enjoyed quite a bit).
Hopefully it will still connect like BoBF did.
i think the connective tissue with both of your points is just how much the show runners in this series are using it as a vehicle to try and contextualize the (awful) sequel trilogy. There needs to be some sort of stage set for how the New Republic turns into the First Order, there needs to be some sort of explanation for whatever tf Snoke was (clone experiment?), there needs to be some sort of explanation for the "somehow" that caused palpatine's return etc etc etc
Filoni and Favreau Manure Services: Cleaning Up Other People's Dumb Shit
To clarify, the New Republic doesn't "turn into" the First Order. The context of the The Force Awakens is that the New Republic doesn't take the First Order seriously, hence Leia establishing the Resistance. The First Order literally obliterates the New Republic with Starkiller Base to destroy the Hosnian system (nerd alert)
The movie did a shit job of giving any context for all of that, but the two are separate entities. It's more likely they are laying the groundwork for how the Imperial remnants become the First Order.
FTFY
I thought this episode was meh, but not great. The intro and outro were fine, but the bit in the middle suffered from a lot of things I think.
I don't mind the side story or the premise of it, but my main gripes were:
On the plus side, the duplication of the droid interview section worked really well. The whole idea of the reintegration program and how it is flawed works fine story-wise. The concept sketches in the credits showed a much better look/feel than the sets we got, costumes too. I think this is first time I can recall where the end credit images differed so significantly from what we got in the show.
Yeah, the dialogue is weak and the acting poor. But it's hard to show emotion when everyone is wearing a mask.
Here's a pretty crippling indictment of Season 3:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMoaSzUijIQ
Eh, take it with a grain of salt. Few things are more toxic than SW fans on youtube posting "explained" videos
Yeah, I clicked that link and rolled my eyes. And then remembered nobody hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans.
Okay, enjoyed the episode but have questions:
1) She wanted to know if he saw the Mythosaur, which is the creature she saw when she rescued him at the end of the last episode. It could (likely will) have implications going forward because one of the legends says the person who can tame the Mythosaur will the leader of all the Mandalorian people. She already lost the Darksaber, which is another way to be the leader, that's why it might factor in later.
2) He's the doctor from season 1 that was leading the clone research whose Imperial remnant outfit was trying to capture Grogu.
Thanks! Regarding the Mythosaur - so BK saw the Mythosaur in the previous episode, but probably (literally) didn't believe her eyes?
Also, could they not come up with a better name than 'Mythosaur'? Reminds me of the rare metal in Avatar being called 'unobtainium' or whatever.
I think they intentionally left it a little vague. One hand, its like you said, maybe she wasn't quite sure she saw what she actually saw. On the other, she knows its the Mythosaur and wants to keep it to herself so she can use it to reclaim control of the Mandalorian people.
Episode 3 quick thoughts:
I love seeing TIE Interceptors and TIE Bombers.
I know this is a wild, science fiction universe with hyperspace travel and mind control but the idea of jumping off the back of a speeding train and landing safely on a soft stack of cloth made me audibly groan. There *has to be* a better way to write their exit from the train.
I think the train was slowing down as it approached the station, but yeah, it was pretty unrealistic.
It seemed like an overly complicated way to erase someones memory when you could just kill them
Good episode, not great.
Yep, the mythosaur and Grogu have a date later this season I believe.
I had not even thought about that, Grogu and his affinity with wildlife.
But rewatching that particular scene, it wasn't that he couldn't move the "rocks". It was that he was keeping them from moving.
I cackled at this. It's the kind of scene that wouldn't work in Andor but played perfectly in Mando.
Oh snap. It just got real.
THERES ALWAYS A BIGGER FISH BOYS.
Lots of prequel vibes from that moment to jar jars actor playing the savior Jedi along with the naboo cruiser as well. Curious for more of Grogus background on who and how he escaped and id love some why he was deemed a big necessity to save from order 66.
I think it was less about needing to save him in particular and more about he was one of the few (only?) ones to be saved.
I guess it's my curiosity if we're going to get more of the why as he is definitely has a strong connection to the force but I need more backstory.
It did seem he had more "security" than the younglings they showed in Revenge of the Sith who were just hiding, but maybe that's just where everyone one was when the attack came. (?)
The reason I think the effort was to save as many as possible was based on the guard's (at the ship) question of where are the rest?
Redemption
Also, loved the father/son vibes through the episode. Mando just saying "hey kid you got this" in effect during the training was great. But tying that into the fact that the young one they were rescuing being the son, that's good writing. It helps future things that I feel like are going to happen make sense
Also the vagueness of whether Ragnar was Paz's birth son or an adopted foundling
I had this thought myself and if it's birth son... well i have some questions about the creed
Well now I certainly have questions.
I don't even want to know what search term you out into Google to find this.
Or do I....
It went something like this.
Just do yourself a favor and go watch Naked gun to refresh and so you dont have to pollute your search history.

I too loved the father/son vibes. Especially Paz having his son kidnapped and being like "Nah, its cool. We'll just camp here for the night. No rush. I'm sure he won't die or anything"
Here is a great rundown of some of the Easter eggs so far this season.
LINK
Interesting if we will see a return to Naboo and if that is where he was initially hidden after order 66....
The further this show goes, the more I am convinced that "The Mandalorian" in the title does not refer to Din, but refers to Grogu.
I know that watching a bunch of people in full armor doing cult things isn't gonna cut it for many Star Wars fans, but I could watch this all day.
I'm with you. I love the dark HBO-ification of TV these days, but sometimes I want a show I can just watch without the fear of missing a crucial detail if I step away to take something out of the oven. It's just a fun watch, and I'm here for it.
So why isn't Bo-Katan wielding her spiffy new dark sabre?
She didn't win it in combat from Din.
Ah, but she did win it in combat from an opponent that won it in combat from Din.
i got downvoted to bolivian on reddit for suggesting this, evidently it can't be an ambush you idiot moron dummy everyone knows that duh
Stay away from Reddit and only comment here so you can acquire the all important turkey legs.
ABOUT THAT
Ummm yeah, it is the Elder wand.
The show implies it must be a direct challenge. I don't think it works like the elder wand in Harry Potter.
Warning, do not watch episode 5 if you hate sheer awesomeness.
And if you don't want to see Mandalorians just wrecking fools, this episode is not for you. Sometimes it's fun when shows are just fun.
I liked the episode (particularly the end), but I hope we've seen the last of Captain Feathersword and the rest of the Wiggles army. That bit was painful, but more or less necessary.
Diving deeper into Mando history and culture is awesome, and a great setup for future episodes.
Goodness gracious things just turned up to 11
And was that Zeb the Lasat?
it absolutely was -- i was basically the Pointing Leo meme
ZEBBBBBBB!!!!!!!!
I WANT MORE ZEB
Also the final scene was spooky shit I thought he might get ambushed the whole time.
MORE ZEB
Feels like they're leaving some breadcrumbs of foreshadowing with the light speed whales now zeb, I think I like where this is heading.
Oh trust us, you're getting more Zeb. I'm betting on him being in the post-credits scene teasing Ahsoka.
What. An. Episode!!
And I caught up on Bad Batch episodes 10 and 11 before Mando. There's so much good Star Wars media right now
Yeah Bad Batch could have its own thread with all the implications of what we're seeing there and gow it ties in with the bigger canon timeline. Really really well done
Loved the Tim Meadows cameo...
The first thing that came to mind when they revealed he's in logistics for a New Republic that is basically combing through all of the Empire's old stuff...
I love how the Armourer came in like Ahsoka's intro and how the Corsair crash resembled the Ravager in Battlefront.
The Armourer is one of my favorite characters. Her sneaking in and destroying those guys (especially pulling the guy with her tongs) was great.
Even better was her interaction and endorsement with Bo-Kotan. I'm hoping at some point we actually see her face.
My buddy went to the same HS as the actress for the Armourer.
Also, she didn't grab him with the tongs, it looked like she speared his spinal column at the base of the skull
Just logged into my computer and already saw a huge spoiler about this week's episode, and I didn't even have to click the article. SMDH. They really should look into somehow releasing these in prime time, because I always seem to end up getting spoilers even though I intentionally try to avoid them all day on Wednesdays.
Casting was absolutely incredible
Fantastic Episode! Haven't watched it yet, but I figured I'd go ahead and comment so I don't have to later when I do watch it tonight.
Possible Spoiler Alert: Baby raptors battle it out in complete Mandalorian armor with jet packs and whistling birds and shit? Foreshadowing that one raptor doesn't think this is the way...
This week's ep was big, goofy fun. Might not be everyone's cup of tea but it was a refreshing change of pace IMHO.
It was a lot of side track to get to the important part at the end.
I was more excited about Christopher than Jack.
I really enjoyed watching Starbuck chase down the Cylon
I feel like Doc Brown was just in this to be in it, which is fine.
I don't really understand why they just gave Bo Katan the damn sword. They could have just done that at the end of last season.
Makes you wonder if maybe we havent seen the end of that storyline!!!!
Things that make you go "Hmmmm"
I'm with you, I think retaking Mandalore and Bo-Katan leading the charge is not going to be quite so easy
I like Lizzo but she is not a great actor in this episode
Tough when you're opposite such a force of nature like Jack Black /s (no shade to JB overall, but it's not like his name is coming up in award season for this role either lol)
I feel like a lot of the guest stars have come across less like a character in the story and more like the actor appearing as themselves in costume, if that makes sense.
That makes perfect sense
I wonder if that could be that there are soooo many Star Wars fans that they mention wanting to be involved in a possible story line then get a small part and they turn into a little kid going to Disney World and dressing up as their favorite character.
It was a good fun episode, but the way it ended is what got me pumped. Glad Bo-Katan is in possession of the Darksaber again.
First episode of the series I didn't like. Just felt kinda dumb. Here's my summary:
Felt like a scooby doo episode
Yeah, I never understood what his motive was supposed to be. He is programming them to go crazy so they can... what? Get the droids shut down? Get revenge? Bring back the Empire? Have a day off?
The show right now.... I dunno something about this week's episode didn't do it for me. Can't really explain why, just felt like it fell flat, and the more I think about it, the whole season is starting to feel a bit hollow. Unless things seriously change in the next few episodes, I don't think this season is going to be remembered as fondly as the first couple.
Same. I have been wanting to like it more than I have.
Same vibes.
Except we already had something like that in Mando S2 finale. This trailer doesnt strike me as that at all.
Holy shit that launched the hype meter through the roof. Also Chopper is favorite droid.
My disney+ profile character is chopper lol
I am absolutely geeked about this show. Gotta rewatch rebels before august!!
Choppers kill count is astronomical that little unit has committed some serious war crimes across the galaxy. Probably more lethal than old boba in his prime
https://www.reddit.com/r/starwarsrebels/comments/57obhv/have_you_added_u...
(this is only through 3 seasons if I recall correctly)
However, if you're really into Droids killing people, and prefer things a bit more brutal, check out Star Wars #36.
you had me at "heir to the empire"
Looks solid.
The conference had a TON of great news including;
-a Dave Filoni led movie that will wrap up all the events of the "Mandoverse"
- a James Mangold led movie about the first Jedi
-a new movie about Rey rebuilding the Jedi Order set 15 years after the sequels
The Book of Bo Katan
Thought I was watching Star Trek at the beginning of this episode! lol
Can someone explain to me why Grogu was knighted by Lizzo? Is it cause he helped her with Boce Ball?
My feeling is we will be back at this planet, and helping Christopher Lloyd. They'll be righting the excess of the regime in some way. Knighting of grogu will just be another excess in a long line of them.
How have we had a Christopher Lloyd cameo and yet no one has made a man-delorean joke?
Nice crossover with the Dad Joke thread!
I wanted to post that one to the Dad Jokes thread, too, but figured it might be spoilery.
How can it be spoilery? He was in that DeLorean back in 1885.
It's been 8 years, should be fine.
Well, that was one of the best episodes of the entire series. I have no idea where next week will end things for S3
Suck me sideways. I'll end up watching that again later today. Here is your episode description.
Yes
But also this:
Is that Pirates of the Dark Water? I loved that show as a kid.
seconded. loved it
Wow. A lot going on. Really good episode. I like how they are tying in this story to the sequel trilogy (although the characters and writing of this show and Andor are far superior)
Love that Paz Vizla went out like an absolute boss
Kind of a dumb absolute boss though. There's no reason he couldn't stand in the hole Bo Katan made and use his heavy gun to kill everyone and then just leave with everyone else.
He was going for high score.
Great episode. Who sold them out?
It's gotta be the Mandalorians that show up in the skiff, right?
For starters, there's no logical way they could survive on the surface for the period of time that has elapsed since the glassing of Mandalore.
And them offering "we'll take you there" with the knowing nods to each other. If they knew exactly where the Great Forge was, they had to know there was an entire Imperial base there.
It would honestly just be bad writing if they are not the ones that were in on it.
My money is on The Armorer. She was more than happy to clear out before the ambush
There seems to be a lot of people that think that she was one of "the spies". It seems the show is playing it up a little bit as well so maybe they are just head faking us with that one.
seems weak to me, but a lot of people are egging that basket. Didn't you see, Gideon's helmet ALSO had horns!!!!
and those horns seem somewhat.... familiar
Yes.... It would be so unlike Star Wars under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy to fall into the trap of lazy writing to tie up loose ends
KK takes a lot of abuse but let's be honest, Lucas wasn't exactly the master of continuity or subtlety either
Could be her. Gideons prison transport that he was extracted from did have fragments of beskar in it.
But it was Beskar Alloy which we know the "imperial commandos" or whatever you wanna call Gideon's soldiers were wearing
Imo writers did a pretty good job putting enough plausibility into multiple theories
the local mandos have to be involved. they are the ones that led them to the forge and it's not like Mof Gideon slipped in a subterranean lair complete with blast doors, shig hangar and Beskar armory without them noticing.
Mythosaur has to crash the party in the finale.
Also, I've known about vibrovlades prob since KOTOP. But I was ignorant to the fact the actually vibrated.
It's interesting bc i dont remember Din's run in with the mudhorn have a vibroblade that literally vibrated
It did, but they didn't zoom in as much. I think the FX budget has quadrupled this season
I'm guessing we get a Mythosaur appearance for the finale, and that's how Bo-Katan and party rescue Din.
Yeah, it is set up perfectly for the residents and the Armorer to be in cahoots with Gideon.
I'm kind of hoping that in the last episode, Gideon escapes having wrecked whatever thing he can, but then he is suddenly cut off by a victory class Star destroyer that obliterates his ship. Camera cuts to the bridge to a very calculating, very blue man
A la the book of boba I'm feeling this will give ashokas series a kick start if I had money to wager.
Need a firmware update for that droid to add in a "This is the way" button
Took all I had to not say anything when I overhead someone at lunch saying pas vizla was the snake in the grass. That man redeemed his family and himself saving everyone else, now the hunt for his son comes full circle.
The more I am reading the more I am hearing people theorizing that Din is going to die in this episode. There are a lot of tea leaves pointing in that direction and even the creators are saying that this finale is going to hit a lot of people really hard.
I've also been getting that vibe. I really hope that I'm wrong.
If that's true, there's no purpose in the show moving forward.
That is particularly true, since this thing is supposed to wrap up the whole story with a Filioni directed Mandalorian movie. Could it be Bo Katan that dies? Either way, feels like a major character death is being set up for the S3 finale.
I'm just gonna guess that "The Mandalorian" was positioned as Din but ultimately will be Grogu
Oooohhh that's an interesting thought.
IDK I'm not deep into star wars lore, but I like speculating 🤷♂️
Imo grogu showing he's got some affinity for animals is really going under the radar here. my money is on him taming the mythosaur
A part of me knows someone is going to die sooner or later here, but it feels like there is sooooo much story left to tell with all these characters and that we'd be robbed of so much if the writers default to "character death is easy ratings".
That was... Not what i was expecting at all.
Especially the part where lizzo's battle flute turned into a lightsaber!
Not what I was expecting but pretty great, and you can see where Filoni/Favreau are aligning the pieces for the Mandoverse to converge
Din m'fing Grogu!
I thought the finale was short.
It was, but at the same time what else could they have added to make it longer? The pacing felt right and big things happened.
Din Djarin absolutely stomping Gideon's forces. He was the most badass Mandolorian we've seen on screen...I said it
Great action sequence with the Moff Gideon fight that lasted the right amount of time
Din Grogu "No'ing" and using the Force the most we've seen
Mandalore reclaimed
Mythosaur confirmed
And even throw in a fun space battle scene and Taiki Waititi back as IG-11.
I'm not sure what else they could have added, let alone had to add? Maybe a Thrawn teaser, but they already did that last episode.
what i would have liked: a little more "oh no Din Djarin is taken and nobody knows where Grogu/IG-12 is" tension at the beginning, more armourer combat
what I would have liked to have seen: Moff Gideon's body.
It took me longer to read what you wrote than watch the episode lol.
Maybe they wanted the extra episode, but I just don't know why they didn't roll the last two episodes together.
I did sort of want Thrawn to show up and somehow be the one that pissed on Gideons parade but it didn't really make sense with the story line.
So, I really enjoyed the finale, but I have two minor gripes
1) jetpacks run out of fuel chasing a dragon but not when flying to orbit?
2) TIE Interceptors/Bombers don't have hyperdrives. Those guys just kind of gave up and went... where?
I thought the same two things.
That's been my biggest gripe with this season. A lot of really good stuff, but some things seem like they needed a little more time in the oven. It feels sloppy.
I mean... in Rebels interceptors were getting hyperdrives... Moff Gideon put in his request for material. Maybe he got it.
Had the same thought on point one, but here's how I rationalized it. The dragon chase was impromptu and therefore most could not have had a full tank. Also they were living in a cave and could be rationing materials like fuel. Whereas, from the fleet they all were fully juiced and ready to soar. made sense ... somewhat
I heard this guy on a podcast discussing the logistical and strategic blunders of fictional armies (battle of helm's deep, for instance). You may enjoy his blog:

Solid episode was expecting some sizeable deaths or atleast something bad to happen but that was the total opposite. Enjoyable but like a lot of this season a bit short but still no real complaints. Are they renewing for another season or was that it? Kinda hoped we were gonna see Grogu find his parents whoever they are
Grogu did find his parent.
That scene with Grogu using the Force to shield himself, Mando, Bo from the fire is such a beautiful family portrait.
I'm also pretty bummed that IG-12 is no more. So much potential for Din Grogu in his mech suit now lost.
Make no mistake, IG-12 only existed to sell toys and merchandise.
Merchandising, merchandising, where the real money from the movie is made.
Spaceballs predicted how the Star Wars franchise would turn out in a number of ways.
It also remains one of those movies that if I happen to come across it on TV randomly, it's like "Welp, gotta watch it all now"
I gotta get me the flamethrower before sell out!
Well, when it comes to SW, this is the way.
The Italian word for almond is mandorla. So is the Mandalorian an Italian almond grower/seller?
So what are we thinking about Moff Gideon's fate in the fireball? I assume that like every other star wars story line without a body he is going to have survived
I have seen this fan theory online quite a bit, that it was one of his clones that died and not him.
Somehow
PalpatineMoff Gideon returned...So anyone else rewatching the last few seasons of rebels before Ashoka?
I feel like I've been able to get a lot of the context and information just by talking with the folks here who have filled in those holes.
But for average viewer, I could definitely see them being a bit lost.
Idk, I have not and probably won't ever watch the animated series, but I'm still able to follow the Mandalorian pretty easily. I might not enjoy some of the easter eggs as much, but everything you need to know is featured in the show.
Your hot take is a valid one. My hope is that all those characters that were introduced elsewhere end up holding their own in the SW live-action universe. That said I can definitely see where not having their backstory could be a hurdle.
I love them both, but I think there are many reasons why Andor is superior to, well, most of Star Wars now that I think about it.
"plot holes" and "Death Star" -- name a more iconic duo!
Found this piece to be a good read and worth thinking about.

This is me.
This is also me (although I could've left out the last two words)
I would totally watch this.
Hell yes. Also, Bill Murray as Obi One? Sign me up.
I would watch that movie in a heartbeat
Wow
