Actually....Flash ended a few weeks ago, and Riverdale will be over by the time football season starts.
In that case, the Mt. Rushmore of the CW will be Koepka, DJ, Delane, and a Hokies starting QB to be announced later.
I ordered a digital antenna on prime day. Does this mean that if I can pick up an air CW channel, I get acc games?!?!? I told my wife this was a good idea.
CW is over the antenna so more people will have access to these games then the RSNs, or at least they should

I cut cable/satellite 9 years ago and haven't missed it. I do have Hulu and can access CW, but also the app is still free (I think) which I used to just cast from my phone to the TV while Supernatural was still a thing.
Wonder what the chances are of any of those 13 football games being our games (lol).
The app doesn't show anything live though, I know cause my wife watched all her supernatural a day late.

Looks like there's some sort of contract dispute between DTV and local affiliates owned by Nextar right now (so also NBC/FOX/CBS/NBC), but if that's still the case in the fall you should just be able to buy an HD antenna and pick them up over the air - they're free local channels.
For those of us in the Richmond market, it's basically a return to the last year or two of the syndicated ACC Network.
Although I did read a story where a LIV event went over the allotted time, and many of the CW affiliates cut away at the specified time, even though most were only showing sitcom reruns. So that could be a thing...

Back in 2011 or so, we had a game on the syndicated ACC Network in week one. The broadcast was scheduled to end at 3:30, but the game was running long. We were blowing out App State - 60-something to 14. In Richmond, the game was on the Fox station. Right at 3:30, they cut it off so they could go to whatever baseball pre-pregame show they had scheduled. I was pissed. The outcome wasn't in question, but I wanted to see the rest of the beatdown.
I am old. I remember the 68 Super Bowl cutaway to Heidi. I can't image the response if that happened today and people missed two touchdowns in 10 seconds for a come-from-behind win.
That was a Raiders vs Jets game in November, not a Super Bowl game. But still would have been pissed with the cutaway.

It's better than the regional sports network bullshit from before. It is an OTA channel and the games will be shown nation wide. Given this is only the tier 3 games, this looks to me like an improvement all around.
I wonder if ESPN will admit on their master schedule that these games are on the CW or if they'll still try to list them as "ESPN3" or whatever, thus confusing everyone who's expecting to stream them.
They're on ESPN3 if you don't live in a place where they're in the CW.

Correct. The CW is on youtube tv for example. If you are out of market, these games are now on vs. raycom where they were only in certain streaming markets. Its a win for me as I am not near roanoke va or baltimore md etc
Since the CW is a local channel it will vary market to market if it's available on Youtube TV. According to some folks on twitter, it looks like Roanoke affiliate isn't on it right now. Easiest way to check is to see if it shows up on the live tv guide.
1.) At least we have a TV deal, which is more than the Pac-12 can say right now.
2.) Saying that a game is on the CW is a lot easier than trying to explain the RSN bullshit. ("There's no channel called 'RSN' on my guide!")
3.) It's easier to access the CW than most RSNs. It's available with an antenna and on even the most basic cable packages. The only limiting agent here is if there is a CW affiliate in the area.
4.) It's for the bottom of the barrel games.

No, this is further down the food chain.
ESPN still owns all of the ACC rights. They have licensed out a select number of games to Raycom. Raycom produces those games, but has to find a place to air them. Prior to this year, it was through cable RSNs. Now, it's on the CW.
After yesterday's announcement of Disney looking to purge ABC and possibly looking to dump ESPN as well. I very much think its only a matter of time before ESPN reneges on that ACC contract.
If they do, that'll officially kickoff the conference realignment.
Could not disagree more. The ACC contract is a great property that probably makes money (relatively low cost/high revenue). I think it sticks around for a bit.

That's a fair point. I do think live sports are different than a Netflix series, but I also think it depends on the buyer - if ESPN sells to P/E, then definitely. If it's another media/tech giant, then no.
Here's the part of the ACC TV deal that gets me:
CW is paying Raycom, who is paying ESPN, who is paying the ACC. Money changes hands three times for the table scraps of ACC football and basketball. And each group thinks they're getting a good deal and can make more money than they spent.
Eh this is a little misleading and makes it sound like the rights are being (re)sold twice, which is not the case. As I understand it:
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding, but it seems like the CW is relying on Raycom because the CW doesn't have the expertise (or equipment) in house.
The product is only being resold once (from ESPN to the CW)
From the ACC press release:
Raycom's been the middle man the entire time. They get the rights from ESPN, but they still need someone to partner with to broadcast the games. For the last few years, it was Bally and the other RSNs.
I'm willing to be that if the deal with the CW ends before the 2026 season, then Raycom will still hold the rights.

point of minor clarification:
Acquire means CW purchased Raycom's rights and replaces them. License means the licensee gains the ability to use the rights from the licensor, but the licensor still maintains ownership. Raycom wouldn't be the middle man if their rights were acquired, but would be removed from the equation.
Thus,
It is possible the acquisition is for a period of time, reverting the sublicensee rights back to Raycom as the sublicensee after the time period ends.
So this is taking the place of the Bally deal? No more broadcasting on Bally or MASN?
Yes, Raycom severed their deal with Bally a few weeks ago.

FWIW the ACC games used to be on the CW for me when I lived in Houston (I think maybe before the last 2 or 3 years)
This is definitely not what anyone would consider a "power move" but pretty much anything beats RSN.
And the ability for some to get CW Affiliates OTA is a bonus for sure.
Having had Directv for 20 years, I loved having RSN. Many channels to try if one was blacked out, and I never missed a game. Just ditched Dtv because of the constant price increases, so I'm worried about losing those stations. We'll see what this season brings.
Should be able to get a CW station from either Richmond or Norfolk/VA Beach area from a free over air antenna if you don't get it via cable or streaming. There's a station in Richmond I know and I'm thinking I remember a station in Norfolk when we used antenna for TV

No. It means you get more shows with F list celebrities and reality stars abandoned on an island trying to recreate civilization or cooking for Gordon Ramsey or helping some commoner buy a house they can't afford.
