- Starts by thanking the fans and facilities workers. Knows that was a long day for everyone and was happy to see the fans come back and be rowdy.
- Knows the Rutgers staff well from time in the B1G. Always stingy on defense
- Obviously, we need to be better. Feels like the staff has identified areas where the team can improve.
- Doesn't want to say too much about the run plan, but states that we have to mix it up more and call plays that make sense for our team and against what Rutgers is going to show us.
- He goes on later to say that we have not seen the entirety of the offense. It was planned this year to keep things simple early and he feels the offense is moving in the right direction.
- We need to play to our strengths and we're still figuring that out. Need to invest in the right areas in the next 2 weeks.
- Many remarks on our rotation being poor and Pry wanting the young guys getting snaps. "We got good, talented young guys that just need experience." We're going to have a bunch of guys that earn more playing time as the year goes on.
- Tisdale starter at mike. Specifically mentions his leadership and communication as his strengths.
- Lawson obviously played a nice game with his ACC honors, but has lots of room for improvement.
- Pry makes similar comments on Drones as he did in the post game. It was an unfair situation and he handled it well. Exciting to see him make plays with his legs and his arm.

First off, you're welcome Pry, I tried to bring as much rowdiness as I could muster. It certainly helped having 2 tailgates for that game.
Secondly, this season certainly has some interesting storylines IMO:
Why did the staff create this QB controversy?
What is going on with the LB rotation and specifically with Tisdale? To me it seemed like Pry would have preferred he move on after last season, but now he's a starter again?
Will the offensive figure it out, if not will Pry have those tough conversations and cut Bowen loose?
Can this staff develop the young talent on the roster? If so, will this team look significantly different on Thanksgiving compared to Labor Day?
TSL pod pointed this out. Feels like he's lying to both players.
Agreed - unless some of the other players arent understanding the scheme... I don't get it
1. Grant Wells is a JAG-minus QB at best so until he separated himself, which he probably never did, someone would be close to him.
2. It's common now for coaches to not name a starter until late in fall camp to keep backups engaged, even if the starter is clear earlier (Texas, Ole Miss, PSU) or roll with two QBs initially to prevent a transfer (Michigan last year, Ohio State, Alabama).
I don't think the coaching staff created anything. Wells will always be subject to QB controversy, even if the backup is Jason Brown, because he's not very good. Drones is a longer term play who they kept on board using tactics similar to those used by nearly every other program in the transfer portal age.
I guess it is better to keep things basic and "vanilla" and lose than it is to show the playbook.
nah, win at all costs
I think they did intentionally keep things simple at camp and so far into the season to help the oline. I also think that this was 100% coach speak to attempt, very poorly, at covering up how awful the run game is.
No point in calling plays we can't run.
No point in calling plays we can't run.No point in calling run plays.
FTFY
Got to keep the defense honest, lol.
Maybe it's time to go air raid. Let's call up WSU's OC and see how much he's looking forward to being in the Mountain West.
I will admit, there is a part of me that has always wanted Tech to run the air raid.
No point in calling plays we can't run=No point in calling run plays.
I interpreted this more as 'I don't want to overwhelm the players' and less if 'we can't let other teams see what we can do'
The most interesting thing to me is he mentioned redshirt rule affecting the post-season. I can't see this team, with the talent on it, making a bowl. It would have to be one hell of a 180.
I am hopeful that the LBs can get it together and the defense can keep us in some games. I do not see the offense getting significantly better, especially with the injury bug coming out swinging this season.
what do you mean bowl game? We're going to the playoffs!!! We're still in the pre-season - we still have the ACC to win and the Champ will get a seat at the table
heavy /s in case that wasn't abundantly clear
Yeah, I think the bowl hopes go from slim to none with a loss this week.
Even looking at it optimistically before the season, I figured we needed to at least go 1-1 vs. Purdue/Rutgers to have a shot.
I think Pry and Co. maybe need a sit down to figure out what they want realistically from this season. I don't necessarily think that burning Redshirts freely makes much sense but neither does continuing to play veterans that clearly aren't going to contribute to a turnaround.
we can if we can learn to stop the run
I just don't think so. Need to stop the run and run the ball; one-dimensional on both sides of the ball.
Injury updates
This one is the head scratcher. French said Crook is teaching the right things (based on what he's seen). Just not sure why it's not translating.
oooof
This might be a good thing?
No one likes to be publicly humiliated so if they recognize their efforts are being seen as so, maybe it'll flip a switch or light a fire under them.
If the fans lighting a fire are what is necessary to get the players to play, just tell me where to show up with a flame thrower.
Anyone else see the practice pictures today on VTFootball twitter/X? Saw what looked like Jennings pictured mid-stride running.
I don't think that's Jennings or Payne, unless Jennings found that Rick and Morty leg fracture serum and got a tattoo this week.
I'm not sure who that is though.
If he calls Drones inconsistent then I wonder what Wells is?
Consistent(ly bad)
